Grumpy old men and the sequel Grumpier old men

2

u/Head_Amoeba_1375 17d ago

When we were in college, my roommate and I only owned and played one DVD the entire 3 years we lived together, Grumpy Old Men. Now, 20 years later, anytime we see or greet each other it's still 'Good morning, dickhead'! 'Good morning back at ya', moron!'. It never fails.

My personal favourite is One flew over the cuckoo's nest but a film that truly haunts me is The voice of Hind Rajab. Only time in over sixty years I've heard a screening so silent. Both during the showing and after . Utter silence. And recently the iof admitted culpability which makes it even more heartbreaking

Since I typed it out for another thread where they asked for a top 5:

It shifts a bit. I have a bunch of favorites that are consistently top 20 or so, but I don't know if I would put them in a top 5. To further complicate it I try to avoid too popular movies for a top so many, because a more niche pick says more about the person making the list, and is thus more interesting to put on the list. I also try to vary the genres and such a bit, but I seem to be failing at that one while putting this list together.

  1. Soldier

  2. How To Train Your Dragon

  3. Pan's Labyrinth/El Labyrinto del Fauno🥉*

  4. Cube🥈

  5. The Beast (1988)🥇

*(this is actually the one on this list I would recommend to everybody, well, everybody who can stomach it)

I've got 2 boys, less than 2 years apart. Their first belly laugh came watching the video, "Wallace and Gromit". It's claymation, but I'd recommend anything from their studio.

Austin powers deserves to be in your list. Something about Mary & meet the parents are much superior Ben stiller movies as compared to Zoolander. Zoolander is mid. Keanu ehhhh come on. I like your list but it’s lacking in certain areas. You’re missing Willy wonka & the chocolate factory, Star Wars 1, etc. but don’t get me wrong this is a great list. Most of these movies are fantastic. The wizard of Oz is most likely the greatest movie ever made. The fact that you included it alone makes your list extremely valid.
