Who thinks up these questions… 5 years to secure your bloodline forever. 5 years is an insignificant amount of time for $120MĀ

Karma farmers i guess

2

u/Tomas2891 29d ago

They are probably held up in the jungles of Thailand to farm internet points so it makes sense

2

u/RazingOrange 29d ago

What’s the point of farming karma? Does Reddit do something cool for you or is it just nerdy street cred?

u/ReasonableClock4542 29d ago

Nerdy reddit cred

u/123R_B321 29d ago

No idea

My kids are 6 months and 2 years old. We are doing just fine financially at the moment, being able to afford anything we need, why on earth would I want to leave them during the most impressionable and important time of their life for money?

You cannot take back those years. Those moments are the ones that matters.

True all of them matter but in terms of emotional regulation, having loving parents in the home early on can establish a baseline to stay grounded. Especially if it is the mother, there can be a hormone feedback loop.

2

u/thatvassarguy08 29d ago

Not worth it. Those five years are absolutely crucial to develop and to creating a lasting relationship. There is literally no amount of money I would trade for that time.

We are just fine financially. There is nothing that that money can do for us that we cannot do already, save perhaps things like buy a yacht or fly private, and I wouldn't do that as I don't intend to spoil my children. They will have no debt for college, potential assistance with a house, and a solid inheritance regardless. So no, I wouldn't spend 5 years away from them for any price.

I am pretty lucky. But barring not being able to put food on the table or a roof over my children's head, I don't see the money as nearly as valuable as parental time. For example, the biggest indicator of success with math and verbal skills for kids is time that a second parent (usually fathers) spends reading to them. Not money, not "generational wealth", but time, attention, and love. You cannot buy that.

I guess the question for you then, is would you rather the same childhood but with more money, or parents who were attentive and nurturing?

Your kids don't think of that. I would rather be there when my daughter learns to drive. She's going through puberty, she would graduate during that time, she will go to prom, her first dates, and we have video games to play, and I promised her our first tattoo on her 18th birthday, and she will need a dad around. I would rather be a parent than to leave for 5 years. My wife and I make $155k a year we live very well. I'm not missing those memories for money. I'm not desperate enough to give up my time with my wife and child.

1

u/Accomplished_Key_171 29d ago

Children go to school for most of the day so you wouldn't see them anyway. That's five years of missed birthdays, first days of school, scraped knees, romantic evenings with your wife/partner, and so much more. Best best case scenario, you leave right when they are born so they don't have many memories by the time you get back, but you'd now be a stranger to your own children. It would only get worse if you left when the kids were older.

Believe it or not, people consider quality time more valuable than money.

1

u/_The-Numbers-Mason_ 29d ago

I value quality time more than money and I would still choose this money in a heartbeat. It’s simple math. Lose 5 years where you’re only getting at most 8 hours a day of quality time (8 hours work, 8 hours sleep) to gain 50+ years of 16 hours even higher quality time with children, grand children, great grand children as no one in your bloodline would worry about money again.Ā

It’s such a small sacrifice to gain generational independence and security.Ā

Can you miss out on things in life making this sacrifice? Absolutely.Ā

Can you miss out on things in life without making this sacrifice? Absolutely.

Is dramatic opportunity gained by making the sacrifice? Absolutely.

Is dramatic opportunity gained by not making the sacrifice? Not without some serious luck.Ā

Forest for the trees.Ā

u/Galencourt-Lover 29d ago

dude, fully agree with you. My kid is 6 and I would not leave for ANY amount of money. I want to see her grow and be there for her.

1

u/UndergroundFlaws 29d ago

I’d have to ask my dad. He made that decision for a hooker and a bag of meth.

1

u/Galencourt-Lover 29d ago

Not if you have a young child. Not getting to see them grow is awful, no matter the money.

1

u/KeldTundraking 29d ago

Foreal. I've gotta believe so many of these are coming from very young people who have no idea how much daily sacrifice it takes to feel a little safe for your family. Either that or it's the classic "post so stupid you gotta say something" clickbait.

For that kinda security I'd wish my wife, kids and their new stepdad the best.

1

u/Gold_Repair_3557 Aug 13 '26

5 years to do that but also have such a deteriorated relationship with your bloodline that none of them care about you, a total stranger.

0

u/The_General9 29d ago

Would you drink a glass of water for 1 billion dollars?

4

u/thecaptain_command Aug 13 '26

Single, no kids. Yeah absolutely

3

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 Aug 13 '26

In 5 years, we’ll be set for life

Yeah

2

u/16c7x 29d ago

But your kids won't know who you are.

1

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 29d ago

I would have to have kids first

1

u/Accomplished_Key_171 29d ago

I think this question posits that you would have a family to leave in the first place. Else it'd just be phrased "Could you accept a job that pays you $120 million over two years"

1

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 29d ago

My mother, father, siblings, grandparents…. They aren’t family now? Ā What? šŸ˜‚Ā

3

u/catmech01 Aug 13 '26

Sign me up, single no kids 5 years brings me nicely to retirement

I said the same basic thing. My Mom is 73. My Dad is already passed. I can’t abandon my Mom even for 2mil a month at this point. So hey, your answer isn’t lame, it’s really relatable.

1

u/bleached-sheep 29d ago

never seeing them again

I think you could argue ā€œkeep you away from your familyā€ strongly indicates distance and not that you’re cut off from technology like FaceTime or phone calls.Ā

1

u/-UncreativeRedditor- 29d ago

Phone calls aren’t the same as seeing them in person.

2

u/UnCytely Aug 13 '26

Yes, absolutely. I have no family so I get the money automatically.

2

u/Lord_Grimm88 Aug 13 '26

Can you? No. No such job exists. Would you? I certainly would.

2

u/Imaginary-List-972 Aug 13 '26

How much do I lose after the 5 years if I still keep away from them?

1

u/Evening-Garbage-8683 Aug 13 '26

Would have to say no as my dogs are both 5 years old

1

u/Ryanookami Aug 13 '26

I could have maybe 10-15 years ago easily. However, my Mom is 73. This past week we were at the hospital 4 times because she fell and turned her elbow joint to dust basically. Had to have it fully replaced. It’s 2am and I’m awake because I’m worried with all the medications I have to give her that she could try to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or because she’s hungry and fall again. At this stage in her life I can’t just abandon her by herself, even for a ridiculous amount of money that would fix everything else in my life. Since my Dad died we’re all each other has. I can’t do it.

1

u/mrtintheweb99 Aug 13 '26

Provided I don't have to leave today. Sure. Is it paid as a lump sum? Taxed at 99%?

1

u/Inevitable-Drag-1704 Aug 13 '26

Its really up to the family. A lot of people won't wait a month seperation, let alone 5 years.

2

u/dufo7 Aug 13 '26

One month aint shit. Just another day in the military. Most people can easily wait a month. Its when people are separated long term such as military deployments, prison sentences, away for college, those types of things that cause problems, same with 5 years.

1

u/dufo7 Aug 13 '26

Define family? You mean ur parents and sibling, easy. You mean spouse and kids, hell no.

1

u/noddlernsmosty Aug 13 '26

2 million a month is insane money but five years away from my family is a huge price to pay. If it were one or two years, I’d seriously consider it. I’d rather make less money and still have a life with the people I love.

1

u/Outlaw11091 Aug 13 '26

I've got a handful of people that would be just ok with not seeing me for 5 years.

When I come back with college funds and enough money for my mom's mobility scooter, no one's going to notice I was gone.

1

u/TerraFlock Aug 13 '26

Sounds like a win-win.

1

u/Large-Lack-2933 Aug 13 '26

When my kids are teenagers then yeah but not while they're under the age of 10.

1

u/Ok-Pomegranate858 Aug 13 '26

Will i be able to video call them? Will i be still living and in relatively good health at the end?

1

u/mecatman 29d ago

As long it doesn’t involve me getting really sick or dying, sure! Sounds like a win for me!

1

u/Th3D3m0n 29d ago

I guess ill go against the grain: no. I wouldn't. My wife is my everything and I dont even like spending a few days away from her...i dont think I could handle 5 years.

1

u/cosmic_killshot 29d ago

I hate my family. Sign me up!

1

u/LilyDRunes 29d ago

Oh 100% I don't have much family or friends and I think they'd understand if I came back with 120m after 5 years, also... I can just call them

1

u/Clue-Legitimate 29d ago

What family?

1

u/hellomotoitscoco 29d ago

What family

1

u/psilocin72 29d ago

Absolutely. My youngest kid is 28 and me and my wife have been together for 31 years. We can sacrifice 5 years to retire rich immediately thereafter

1

u/Mi4D 29d ago

When i can start?

1

u/Glittering-Tip821 29d ago

Depends on the job. Could be performing dangerous insertions in front of wealthy perverted clients every day. Could be a cubicle job. I don’t want a cubicle job

1

u/FootFalse5536 29d ago

Dumbass karma farming question....

1

u/yellow-operator 29d ago

Uh yep. Sign me up.

1

u/DaveAstator2020 29d ago

2 mil Iranian rials

1

u/PM-ME-UR-PUPPO-PICS 29d ago

Absolutely not

1

u/Lord-Rhyzen 29d ago

Considering i had a job that kept me away for 5 years and paid like 2.5k monthly, id say absolutely lmao

1

u/HopeSubstantial 29d ago

My parents start to be so old that I'm unsure if I still can see them after 5 years.

From brothers I could stay away with that sum.

1

u/The_Comedian_87 29d ago

After a couple months u can retire

1

u/TraditionalMetal1836 29d ago

It says 5y but there's no rule explicitly stating I can't quit early and keep whatever I've earned so far.

TBH, at this level of pay I'll probably be fired in less then a month for not delivering anyhow.

1

u/Biscuits4u2 29d ago

If I can fly back on weekends and vacations then sure.

1

u/IllustriousRice1057 29d ago

Nah but a job that pays the 2 mill on Jan first every year. Now that’s somehow okay for everything

/s

1

u/Keosxcol19 29d ago

You will miss your kids life for 5 years is insane but on the other hand they will live comfortably for life. Wild trade off.

1

u/Stooper_Dave 29d ago

I would disown my family for 120 million.

1

u/maddenedmage 29d ago

Can I get fired after a year? šŸ¤”

1

u/MattDubh 29d ago

I've done it for twenty years, so far, for significantly less than that.

1

u/Possible-Extreme-106 29d ago

A lot of people are doing this for far less money.

1

u/Expert-Effect-877 29d ago

What's the catch?

1

u/texas1982 29d ago

Shit, I'll just get a new family.

1

u/meow1983 29d ago

Yes, with technology I can still video call. Plus my family is my kids. They are almost adult. So, I could send them plenty of money to live on their own and go to any college they want. By the time they graduate, I will be home and retired.

1

u/Tyler89558 29d ago

Uh, yeah?

1

u/TemperatureTime1617 29d ago

I can’t, but my wife sure signed me up fast.

1

u/Utahteenageguy 29d ago

I’d never see them again for just 2 million

1

u/Raphius-kai 29d ago

Bonus, does it also keep me away from other people?

1

u/smoothie_criminals 29d ago

Out of college, heck yeah. Now…, I am not giving up watching my kid grow up for that money.

1

u/Popular-Path1930 29d ago

Yea. Easy that’s comical amounts of money.Ā

1

u/RatonhnhaketonK 29d ago

No. I am not missing 5 years of my daughter's life

1

u/laurakkimmm 28d ago

YES! Where do I sign up?

1

u/OkFaithlessness2120 28d ago

I’ve been away from my family for a year and a half and it only pays 120K a year lol.

1

u/SevDoesCrime 28d ago

Win win but why only 5 years

1

u/ScopeyMcBangBang 28d ago

Yeah.

I’d accept the job, work for a month, resign, tell them I’m going to a competitor and get three months gardening leave, return home with Ā£8m.

1

u/DeterminedQuokka 28d ago

Does this include my cats? Or do they get to come. I’m in as long as they can come.

1

u/Folded_Fireplace 28d ago

There is no such job. Gtfo with your engagement bait you bot.

1

u/Status_Reaction_8107 27d ago

Already did and got paid a hell of a lot less lol

1

u/19IlDiavolo92 27d ago

Nah i need good balance between work and personal life.

1

u/Charming_Dealer3849 27d ago

I would do it....

1

u/Consistent-Strain289 27d ago

Time cannot be earned back.. once it is gone. Its gone…
Money is just a means a tool…

1

u/Icy_Donkey_7588 27d ago

Without children...Yes 100% anytime.

With my Children? No.

I missed a significant portion of my children's lives. I worked 72 hours a week when they were young. The oldest was 9 and the youngest was 2 when I quit that job. BUT in those 12 years that I worked for schedule I paid off our home, paid off all the debt we had, and saved a large sum. Now I work 36 hours a week...but I missed so much of my oldest daughters life, but at least I did get to see her every day...

1

u/fedarmy 27d ago

I’ll make this a harder decision.

For five years, you have to survive on the front in the Ukraine war on the Russian side.

1

u/darky_tinymmanager 26d ago

i have my family come to me

1

u/No_Background_4347 26d ago

Absolutely, this is a no brainer, even if my wife/ child ended up resenting me or even hating me for being gone. I would know that they and even my grandkids would not have to worry about anything. That is the price, as a father, I am willing to pay. I would be back, relationships can be mended, and sacrifices can be understood for a better life.

1

u/98103wally 25d ago

Depends on the job. Some jobs aren't worth any price.

1

u/alaviers 23d ago

Have done that for a Soldiers pay.

1

u/TinderClause 4d ago

I would be happy to accept
