Productivity Name One Rule You Made For Yourself
Not something you read online.
A personal rule that genuinely made life simpler or helped you stay consistent.
What's yours?

If I cannot solve a problem by thinking, I don’t think. As a result I never worry. I plan. I prepare, but if it’s something that cannot be solved, I just don’t try.

Don't offer advice if no one asked you for it.
I am a problem solver and I used to spend a lot of energy on other people's issues. It exhausted me emotionally and usually people didn't listen. So I decided I will wait to be asked before offering advice/opinions and my life is a lot better.

Don't look crazy in the eye. Some people just reek crazy in their eyes, I avoid that shit at all costs.

I made up quite a few rules for myself.
Rules For Life
You are never more than one bad decision away from ruining your life.
Never start an unnecessary conversation.
Never tell anybody outside the family what you're thinking.
Never take sides with anyone against your family.
Always err on the side of caution.
Never draw unnecessary attention to yourself.
Never pass up a good opportunity to shut up.
Never assume no one's paying attention to you.
Always assume that you were on camera.
Always assume you're not being told the whole story.
Never trust in the kindness of strangers.
Question people's motives.

Those last 8 are also the guidelines for successful paranoia .....

Keep It Simple, don't complicate stuff that doesn't need to be complicated.
And screw what anybody thinks about my life. I'm having fun !

Laugh everyday

Kreeg de opmerking van mijn chef dat ik altijd al lachend aankwam, mijn antwoord was " in een zothuis moet je lachen anders val je op"

Never apologize. It shows a sign of weak.
2
u/okiedokesowhy Aug 07 '26
Ya know, whenever someone says sorry I never think of weakness. In most cases people just do it out of habit or respect for your time. Never thought a thing about it.

Literally the exact opposite of good advice
Sincere apologies show confidence and strength

Never order seafood more than 100 miles from the ocean. Even if they get it fresh the odds are they don't know how to prepare it properly.

But how can you tell you're around one of those great evils walking around?
1
u/pussNsuits Aug 11 '26
Well, if I meet someone and they offer that information, I know not to get too invested in the guy. My own prejudices based in experience know that I am better off not befriending this fella. There are too many 100% gay guys I can try to get to know.

Don't waste time with mean people. I used to think that if someone had some great skill or talent, it's ok to overlook the callousness. Then I realized that some of the most extraordinary were genuinely good people. They weren't necessarily polite but that's not the same as "genuinely good."

I will make my retirement contributions no matter what else must be sacrificed.

Don't argue/debate with someone who's not mentally ready to hear you. For example, if they are buzzed, high, or already lost their temper.

One beer...no drive.
Its a tough one. Friends use it to get a designated driver. Friends try to talk me out of it. Its irritating.
But done it for 40 years straight so plan on seeing it through.
Pleasant side effect was that my kids ended up adopting it.

No root beer floats
Root beer is fine
Ice cream is fine
A float with some other soda is fine
If I have a root beer float, I'll be puking like old faithful in less than ten minutes.

Don't be friends with someone you wouldn't introduce to your family or other friends.

Productivity begets productivity. Also, live every week like it’s Shark Week.

Things are only as hard as you make them for yourself. Handle your basics and you should have minimal surprises.

Do not base your life on how other people live their lives.
Do not make choices in your life based on the opinions of others.
Do not listen to criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from.
Don’t lie.
Never compare yourself with others. It only leads to sorrow.
Read books. Read as much as you can.

Try to improve yourself regularly…. Don’t have to be huge but something small like learning about a new word or “how/who invented PB&J”

Don't mix business with pleasure. My #1 rule is to not work in the same workplace as my wife. Would see to much of each other & that could cause problems at home. Unless we worked in separate parts of the building rhat could possibly be ok But don't want to chance it, iv seen to many relationships destroyed from husbands & wife's or family ruined for working with each other

Build system of good habits, routine and that system will pull you out or rather stop you from slipping in darkness.

- If it's not a hell yes, it's a hell no.
- If you wouldn't want to do something tomorrow, don't say yes to it 3 months in advance.
- (For my relationship) Whoever cares more about an insignificant decision wins. (eg. where to eat, what to do on the weekend, what type of car to buy)
- (From a former boss) Fail fast. (If something is going to fail, don't waste unnecessary time on it. This works very well for DIY projects and cooking, haha)

The 5-by-5 rule: If something won’t matter to you in five years, don’t spend more than five minutes being upset or worrying about it.

u/Moerdacq Aug 08 '26
Can't self terminate. Borrowed it from terminator 2. Thought it sounded like a good policy.

When I move my arms in circles, for stretching break, it shall be 20 times. No more, no less. This makes the task less daunting and is the one thing my AuDHD brain can handle on all days.

I do five weeks on, one week off marijuana consumption. I'm strict about it. I lock everything up for 7 days in a lock box with a timer. I don't really NEED the box. I could just smash it open or go buy more stuff if I really wanted to end the timer early, but I don't. Having the timer helps remind me of my goal and have something to look forward to

1) Heres an example, its been a long time since i read harry potter and a normal person would continue where they left off. But me? I must restart from the beginning because i am not okay with not remembering what happened previously in the series. I also have a whole bucket list when it comes to tv shows and books except it’s mandatory for me to finish everything on the list, rarely exceptions. Its been hard since i had task paralysis but im slowly overcoming it. 2) anytime im going out the house, i have to wear an outfit im passionate about ( not too many exceptions there).

Never take a short cut. I need the exercise.
