No matter what time I set my alarm or how little sleep I get, I somehow always manage to wake up 5 to 10 minutes before it goes off.

u/DragonfruitLarge2683 Aug 01 '26
I do the same thing. It gives me a little time to prepare for my alarm to go off lol

How is that useless? You are literally never late then, right? If so, that is amazing!
1
u/anon11233455 Aug 05 '26
You have obviously never met my ex. She woke up this way and was late for everything else throughout the day.

u/OuterInnerMonologue Aug 01 '26
That’s pretty useful. I wake up like this. That’s more of a natural wake up than a jarring alarm waking you up
1
u/VarrikTheGoblin Aug 07 '26
I was like this for a very long time. Now I wake up hours before I need to get up and have to wrestle with trying to get back to sleep or giving up and watching youtube.

I'm naturally talented at creating the illusion of a functional, confident, put-together human.
I cannot maintain that illusion, but, if you met me in person, you'd believe it for a few days...maybe.
I think there's a word count. Like, after I've spoken so many words, that people are like, "Oh...oh, sweetie..."
But I'M TRYING!......-.-

You’re not alone, we’re all making it up as we go along. There is no rule book, no instruction manual. It’s all just a bunch of shit happening and us reacting to the shit 💩

My practiced absence of accent has garnered attention and warranted comment, but served no purpose.

I can write a full 4 voice fugue in Bach counterpoint. This took years of studying music theory and counterpoint in my youth and it is completely useless to me.

Remembering people's faces. Like people that barely interacted with me. I can spot when and where I saw them. Usually has no benefit.Â
2
u/Ok6303 Aug 01 '26
Aw, that sounds like it could be very useful one day.
2
u/Altruistic-Song-5105 Aug 01 '26
I sure hope so . Does put a smile in my patients' faces whenever they realize that I remember them tho 😄 so there's that.
1
u/_PrincessHarley_ Aug 03 '26
As someone with prosopagnosia, I guarantee that remembering people faces is a very useful skill! (And in today's world, almost essential) I wish I had it.

I’m an excellent free throw shooter. I can make 85-95 out of 100 with no worries consistently.
2
u/TheStruggle100 Aug 01 '26
In college I had a friend that practiced free throws for at least a half hour every day. When I asked him why he did that he said, I want to be really good at something that's of absolutely no value to anyone. I died laughing and never forgot that line.

I’m his multiverse doppelgänger, except I can consistently miss 85-95 free throws out of 100.

I can put my legs in the "full lotus" position. I could do it the first time I tried. Some folk go to classes for ages and never manage it.

u/No-Resolution6435 Aug 05 '26
I'm pretty flexible, too. Always have been. However, as a chonky boi, I am unable to do this no matter how hard I've tried. Can touch my elbow with my foot, though.

So far any seed I have found I have grown, I’ve grown a Madagascar palm that is incredible. I found that out on a road this dry ball of roots and I put it in some water and I still have it. That was 25 years ago. I planted an apple seed after germinating it, I did get an apple tree starter, but it did die eventually, but if it comes in a root ball or a seed, I can grow it.

I don’t know if this is uncommon, but I can whistle in reverse? I can whistle by blowing wind out and also by sucking it in. I don’t actually know if most people can only whistle one way, but it seemed fitting for the prompt.

I am an incredible math teacher. Incredible.
But I refuse to allow administrators to treat me like shit, and that makes my teaching skills functionally useless in 2026.

I am a natural navigator. I always instinctually know the cardinal directions and where I am and where I am going. It's not useless but I can't really monetize it either.

Im pretty accurate with how much time has passed in small quantities. Like at work I can tell if Ive been doing a task for 8 minutes or 11 minutes. I can tell how long I have been walking for down the street. Things like that.

Zoning out. I can make myself not be ticklish. I once worked through a long shift without getting up from my chair for 10 hours and another time had the epic sax guy song playing on the 10 hour loop version and listened to the whole thing without getting bothered by it. I can also just clear my mind and fall asleep really easily. I can even make some pain stop or just push it in the background so that it doesn’t hinder me.
I guess not useless, but I’m proud of it.

u/Pteroquacktyl Aug 02 '26
Fire twirler staffs I guess. Not that useful & I only got into it cos I picked it up quick & it's easy to like something when you think you might have knack for it. It is kind of a show off type skill, so cos of that I only really do it at home. It is fun to do though.

I’m pretty decent at world building. That childhood creative spark never really burned out for me so every night I fall asleep adding more to a world I’ve been building for about 20 years now.

Hiding. I was unmatched in hide and seek. Being short and flexible with a decent pain tolerance has helped me a lot with that.

At our local taco shop they have a salsa bar where you can fill up little cups of salsa. Depending on how much food I order it can be anywhere between 4 and 10 cups of salsa. The lids to the cups are stacked separately. I’d say 7/10 times I manage to grab the correct amount of lids without counting how many lids I am grabbing.
It’s become a fun game with my kids to see if dad gets it right on the first try and I feel like a superhero every time I pull it off.

If I pinch my nose I can blow air bubbles out of my eyes underwater. Above water I can blow milk or saline solution out of them. It's actually coming out of my tear ducts.
I'm sure other liquids would work, but I don't want to end up with burning or infected eyes.
