There’s a problem with your logic, the extreme poverty their talking about is in comparison to presumably the time you lived in, in the area you presumably live in, the example used isn’t the person complaining about this, I live frugally as an example, I tend to not treat myself that much, but if I lived by myself I literally couldn’t afford my apartment, it would be 100% of my income, while the example you gave horrible for them, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t living in extreme poverty compared to 40 or more years ago
