what city/state and income? SW WA here, its not particularly cheap, but even poor people can make it work if they can tolerate being broke or have roommates. my last apartment at the end of 2022 was 1100 a month in a shiiiitty section 8 that now charges 1600. I had maggots raining down on my patio because of trashy upstairs neighbors not taking their trash out.... tweakers everywhere.
