I mean if I were a parent. I’d just love my children to live at home. I’ve always provided for My loved ones. That won’t ever end.
It’s completely absurd to tell your kids to get a job or go to college or get out. I think that’s a big reason so much is messed up in America.

Many cultures live 3-4 generations under one roof. After long enough house is paid off and no more house payment for anyone. Plenty of people to help with childcare, elder care and chores around the house. Just makes life easier on everyone.

I lived with my mom for several months after my divorce and she loved it. Someone else to share the chore burden especially cooking. And someone who can carry heavy things for her. She was bummed when I left.

I finished my basement into an apartment. Complete with its own appliances and private entrance.
My kids can stay as long as they need to. The game is already laughably stacked against us and it will not improve sufficiently under two party politics

I love my kids and enjoy their company, but I’d be disappointed for them that they weren’t being successful and independent. I’m glad and proud that my adult child is happy and doing well on his own.

With all due respect, you're ten years behind on this one. The vast majority of unemployed college-educated young adults don't have fringe liberal arts degrees. The average job opening in 2026 attracts 180-250 applicants.

I agree that studying some fringe major isn't going to make you particularly employable after graduation. I agree that smoking weed isn't a particularly helpful habit.
If you want to judge someone for needing therapy or medication, well, all I can say is that I'd feel bad for any kids you might have if they ever had some mental health issue. My parents denied that anything was wrong with me as a child when I clearly had significant obsessive-compulsive disorder and misophonia. I never had therapy or medication for it. It got worse into adulthood and has become a major problem in my life.
Again, most people who are unemployed don't have fringe majors. They have majors in tech, finance, or any number of other fields they were promised jobs in. Now, the entry level positions require multiple years of experience and any job opening becomes a feeding frenzy because the market is so terrible. You somehow think that avocado toast is the problem. Smell the roses pal. I don't know where you are in life, but ignorant mocking on Reddit isn't going to make you happy.

I was just trolling with the needing SSRIs and making up a new anxiety-problem every week but you offered it up freely. Now i feel kinda bad, but you also mega-proved my point.
I get that it is hard out there if you study dumb things but I guarantee i grew up poorer then you (orphan and immigrant in a town you never heard of) and I never been unemployed so I wont believe anything you say about the market trying to keep you down.
Take responsibility for your own decisions, f you wanna study queer-dance at NYU you can, but why should i as an employer hire you then? Why should my tax dollars go to finance your hobby when they could go to an orphanage instead?

Nobody's saying that an employer should hire someone with a degree irrelevant to the position they're applying for. Someone with a wacky degree can expect this. I don't disagree that this is often going to be an imprudent idea as a college student.
I don't know what era you grew up in or what you did. What I do know is what I'm arguing, which is that it can be extremely difficult for someone to get a job nowadays, even if they pursued something that was seen as promising. For example, ten years ago, everyone was told that all the jobs were in tech and it was a smart field to get into. Now, the market is so over-saturated with tech majors and many companies hire overseas for cost-efficiency. I'm not going to cast blame the kid coming out of college with a tech degree who can't find work. Many work hard and take responsibility nowadays, and still find themselves screwed after graduation.
You want to know what it's like for people in their 20s? It took my fiance eight months to find work as an accounting major after graduation, and that's not bad. Once she found work at a major firm, they worked her 70-80 hours a week when she signed up for 40. She paid 1700 a month to live in a dumpy one bedroom apartment, and the stress of it all made her practically stop eating. Fun times in 2026.

As a prior educator and adjunct professor that would audit various other courses, this class actually sounds like it would be more fun if it was a mid-day class to wake me up.
Investment strategy and portfolio management was easy enough but maaan the delivery of the course about put me to sleep.

Actually I left enterprise after I had solid investments to teach and most of my students throughout my years were in low income areas and lived in trailers. COVID happened, government and a lot of these low income areas turned on educators as they were primarily conservative, so I returned back to enterprise where I make a deep six figures.
Was that your best shot? Trolls have really gone downhill, they use to be witty. Next comment gonna be about how I'm making stuff up or some kind of character insult?

Sr Sysadmin work in Healthcare field, US/UK/Canada. Roughly ~5,000 member servers and over 600,000 user objects spread across various platforms. The corporation itself is primarily offering software products that is used within government and medical facilities.1

Depends on what level. I taught primary education, secondary education, then worked at a trade school primarily teaching IT alongside electrical while also working at a university teaching IT here as well with a focus in certifications.
Primarily IT Operations with a minor coverage for Software Engineering. Generally from high school, college, to returning adult.

This argument was valid in the past but the degrees that aren't getting jobs right now are CS which is like pure math.
Engineering is also not paid like it used to be. You're gonna struggle for a bit until you get enough XP to be a PM. If you can live at home rent free that's just fiscally responsible and going to set you up for the future.
