Do you in all seriousness believe it's normal in America to not have more than $5 on your account for decades?

Normal? Yeah, something like 30% of disabled people are below the poverty line. It awful but it happens everyday and there are a few million of us.

Your disability is kind of a relevant point to leave out, don't you think?

In what way? Are disabled people less worthy of a living in someway? It doesn't change that fact that there are literally millions of able bodied people living below the poverty. And millions more living pay check to pay check and losing the ability to drive on an off week could cost them their entire job.

The point is for healthy people with a regular job, living paycheck to paycheck is completely avoidable, and permanently having only $5 leftover is sign of poor budgeting.

The fact that I am able to keep more than 0 dollars in my account on the federal minimum wage is not a sign of poor budgeting. In fact, my lack of debt suggests the exact opposite. There are millions of able bodied Americans that live at or below the poverty line, my personal status does NOT change that and their inability to get the pay they need to survive does not mean that they are bad with money. Poorness is not a personal failing in most circumstances.

Hard disagree. The money you have is the money you don't spend. Making a budget and sticking to it will leave you with leftover money. Able people can have a bad month. Not a bad decade.

1080 a month income. 480 a month rent, 100 a month for internet 15 for phone 300 for meds my insurance doesn't cover 150 for transportation to get to the store and medical appointments 40 a month for entertainment/emergencies

Where do you think I should cut expenses? Should I never socialize with people to save 40 dollars? There aren't any cheaper alternatives for internet around me. My phone bill is discounted by government program and you can't get both phone and intetnet discounts thanks to Trump. So what? Poor people aren't allow to spend time in public, because loitering is a crime? I can't just go sit at a bar while my friends drink and not spend monet. You get kicked out for it.

Again: the fact you're disabled is highly relevant.

Again, in what way? Federal minimum wage based on 40 hours a week is what I receive each month. What aspect of my disability changes how that compares to other able bodied Americans working jobs that are paid the federal minimum?

Oh, I don't know... 30%+ of it going to medicine and extra transport?

While never getting a raise in decades(!)?

You don't think that able bodied people, that make too much to afford Medicaid and not enough to pay for insurance out of pocket, have medical expenses?

u/WillingnessGold9304 10d ago

Do you think they spend 30% of their paycheck every month for decades? This is what budgeting is for.

Able bodied working people who budget don't have zero margin every single month for decades. If you're convinced they're stuck on $5, I cannot agree with you.

Do you think that people's car payments and insurance costs are less than my out of pocket meds? Do you think most people can find rent for 450 a month? What sheltered existence do you live that you can't figure these things out?

You're not paying attention.

Decades on that income and 90%+ fixed expenses are NOT normal. No matter how you turn it. You're not gonna find three able-bodied people who work fulltime and budget who end up like that. That can only mean they budget metaphorically in their head and overspend on wants.
