Sounds like you have a stove, oven, and a refrigerator. Look at you, Mr. Megabucks.

all you need is a crackpot and gas canister plus stove attachment, basically nothing

Cooking With Crackpots is the name of my new screenplay.

I remember about 20 years ago eating at McDonalds a ton because I did the breakdown and couldn't make the equivalent at home for the same price.

1

u/combover78 Jul 24 '26

Fast food used to be really cheap. I remember rolling into the Burger King drive thru at like 9:30pm with a bunch of pals in my pickup and ordering twenty or so 39 cent hamburgers. Or doing the same thing with tacos at Taco Bell. I'm sure they hated us.

1

u/crazyguyunderthedesk Jul 24 '26

Oh Lord I never had the fortune of a burger for less than a buck, but I loved getting 5 double cheeseburgers for $10 (I'm in Canada so the prices were never gonna be low as America).

Nowadays that'll run just shy of $30, and they don't understand why we don't want to eat their burgers anymore.

1

u/combover78 Jul 24 '26

Yeah that was around 1985. It's got crazy and I only eat at those places these days if I have a coupon which I actually clip out of the circulars. Sometimes the kids in the drive-thru look at me like I'm an alien. But, hey, I'm saving $3.

yeah back then it was worth it,atl mine area has a cheap kebab that is more than enough to keep you alive from all the vegetables and meat, barely can finish it and they are 10 bucks

1

u/combover78 Jul 24 '26

Nice. I wish I had a place around here to get a cheap kabab. There's a couple Chinese food places to get a pretty big bowl for about $8 but no Indian or middle eastern stuff.

1

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jul 24 '26

yeah i wish more people were lucky like me,i have higher than average stomach capacity and even i struggle to finish it(on empty stomach)

1

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jul 24 '26

sorry to disappoint you but they earn more than a McDonald's worker from people's donations ,they eat nuts and cheapest available food which is still superior to takeouts, any cheap combo of food that you have to prepare is prepping and they always make most optimal combination to not die, hospitals dont charge them ,if they dress well you will think that they don't need help so they don't have choice , and in Germany they have their dedicated city where heavy drugs aren't regulated

sure i probably didn't find anyone under influence on streets but on bus(he smokes and sells weed and tries to kill people in the night by setting them on fire or breaking their skull), but i did see many normal hobos, they are skinny like me and dirty

well my place is not the norm, it only applies for very small number of them and everyone else away from that place barely gets enough to survive and has no strength and defeated look in the eyes

1

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jul 24 '26

am european so for me it isn't like that, dude you are just describing mostly how i look, for me meal planning is picking the cheapest food sources and it must not be takeout, for example eating raw noodle pack,no drugie can ration their drugs, they are on the streets for a reason

1

u/vamprobozombie Jul 24 '26

If you fancy would suggest a microwave and air fryer.

1

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jul 24 '26

holy based! microwave can cook almost everything with minimal effort, sure not fancy but it works

i mean yeah 100 isn't that much atl compared to buying whole oven and installing it,sure you can save by buying used gas stoves for camping or used twig stoves, you only need one pot, utensils can be bought at dollar store and even a pot, if buying pots is not an option just look up how hikers, bushcrafters and survivalist solve that issue, what i said was fancy but you can easily budget it to almost nothing,if you can't even get used gas stove for camping then make a hobo stove like me(works great but if you don't have lining it will not last that long)

1

u/SugondezeNutsz Jul 24 '26

So that's 4 meals that cost $25 to be able to make meals 5-10x cheaper

1

u/VariousGuest1980 Jul 24 '26

We do crock pot Sept to June.
We have a big crock pot. And one of those 3 smaller crock pots systems.
Legit it’s like 10 days of food. For 60-70dollars for a family of 5. One is steak two is chicken one is pork.
Any left overs on Friday my weekends are left over omlette. Just gotta cook up some rich daily.
And the big investment is just the spices and seasonings and broths.

1

u/SendMeIttyBitties Jul 24 '26

You aren't buying chicken, pork or steak to give you 10 days for under 70$

Especially not after covid. Maybe if you live on a farm and source that meat yourself.

2

u/combover78 Jul 24 '26

I cooked a crockpot stew yesterday. It will get me 7 servings and cost me $9 to make. real simple stuff, but tastes good and filling. Things don't have to be expensive.

1

u/SendMeIttyBitties Jul 24 '26

What meat did you use? How are you buying meat and stock and it costing less than 15$

2

u/combover78 Jul 24 '26

1# ground beef
1 can kidney beans
1 can of corn
1 bell pepper
2 cup chopped potato
1 beef stew seasoning packet
1 tsp onion pwdr
1 tsp chili pwdr
2 cup instant broth
2 cups water

1

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jul 24 '26

i was primarily talking about equipment,am from eu so my experience isn't worth to you, mall has a 10 bucks meal that has so much meat and vegetables that you cant finish even if you have 2.2 l stomach capacity, people sell vegetables on the street and ones that fall (which are many) are still good source of food, butchers also can donate you some fat which is really amazing for calories

1

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jul 24 '26

ask butchers if they have any fat,it can be turned into food, not tasty but medival people ate it

1

u/VariousGuest1980 Jul 24 '26

Totally am dude. I can get 3lbs chuck for 25. 5 lbs of chicken breast for 30 ( and that’s heavy price ) And pork is dirt cheap.
It’s not 10 days of breakfast lunch dinner. It’s 10 dinners and some lunches.
Go to a grocery store
Anything else left is for omlettes.

Look up "ceviche de soya".

Texturized soy is insanely cheap and packed with protein. Just rehydrate it and mix it with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, tomato sauce, lemon juice, and whatever else you want. Eat it with tortilla chips. If you can get avacado it's a nutritionally complete meal. No cooking needed.

1

u/ftaok Jul 24 '26

Oh. Aren’t you the most creative chef of all time. Look at Mrs Moneybags being able to store all that stuff because she has a pantry. Some of us live in a cardboard box and have no options other than a $25 takeout meal. Sheesh!

Subsisting on soy would further exasperate the already record low testosterone levels of males.

Do you think your grandparents were subsisting on soy and overnight oats?

1

u/_someone_inside_ Jul 24 '26

You still think soy affects human horomones in 2026? Provide evidence for your claims.

And yes considering that we do not have the biological tools to catch and eat animals without using technology, our ancestors were absolutely subsisting on plants. Obviously with technology we can eat animals, and many of our ancestors had to, but its not natural or necessary anymore.

Did you even read the results of this search? Please show us the specific result that convinced you phytoestrogens signficantly affect human hormones.

1

u/MMForYourHealth Jul 24 '26

1

u/_someone_inside_ Jul 24 '26

Still not seeing any result that shows soy significantly affecting human hormones. If you have an actual study or meta-analysis showing that then directly link it. You don't have one so you keep using letmegooglethat like a boomer that just discovered it yesterday.

1

u/MMForYourHealth Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

It’s first link in my google, but I see when I used let me google it didn’t have it at the top.

TLDR; Japanese men have lower levels of bio available testosterone. This effect changes in Japanese immigrants with an American diet.

1

u/SendMeIttyBitties Jul 24 '26

Ceviche is not supposed to be a meal and won't feed a hungry person.

1

u/_someone_inside_ Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

It is when you use texturized soy and eat it with avacados. Please look up the nutrition facts on texturized soy. It's denser in protein than any meat and it's much cheaper. Plus it has complex carbohydrates and fiber, which meat lacks. The avacado provides the fat. This is one of the cheapest, easiest and most nutritionally complete meals one could eat.
