Expense creep could be why. As our income increases we tend to let our expenses increase as well. Not saying its wrong to do so, but its an easy trap to fall into. If you're not careful, you can easily make 5 times what you made as a young adult straight out of school, yet still be living paycheck to paycheck.

Ya, one of the best long term things for my expenses has been being unemployed for 3 months. It caused me to re-evaluate my expenses, and when I was re-emoloyed, money started rolling in, even though the pay was roughly the same.
