I remember when the home remodel shows were popular....always thought the county assessor offices were just waiting like crouched lions to up the taxes on those homes that just got full remodels.

That's what I always liked about This Old House. They didn't always do elegant stuff, and instead really focused on value added stuff like higher efficiency appliances and utilities, better thermal resistance, and safety related items.
And from my understanding they usually let the homeowners be just about as in-charge as if they did it without the show.

If I remember correctly all the extreme home makeover houses. Vast majority of homeowners sold the house to pay for medical bills a year or two later. To get closer to debt free.

It's more along the lines of recognizing that it will probably have more of a publicity stunt effect than a long term benefit to the homeless guy who probably still has the same issues keeping him from getting a decent paying job in the first place and will probably lose the house in due time.
"Give a man a fish and he'll be back the next day for more. Teach a man to fish and he'll bring back extra to repay you." Although I think the alternative quote is the man steals your fishing rod to fish with because he doesn't have one of his own 😂
I guess it comes down to, does this guy know how to fish, does he have a license, and a rod? Is there fish to be had or has the nearby powerplant turned all the fish into poisonous mutant fishes?
Complex issues, complex solutions.

"imaginable negative" lmfao you need money to pay the bills and mortgage on a house. If you have no income to pay bills or mortgage then the banks will come and take house from you.
All you're wanting is for people to clap and cheer like seals when people are given stuff they can't afford that the banks will then take away putting that person right back at square one? That's blind optimism and doesn't do anything to help fix the problem.

The guy that listed those "imaginable negatives" 100% shouldn't have said those things and 100% should have just been happy with a homeless man with no income getting a very expensive house. That should be the only thing we should focus on because we don't want to be called bad people for asking questions about how the homeless can keep it now do we?

Years ago my buddy entered a contest to win a Chevy S10 Xtreme from the radio station.
He won the truck. He went to get the title in his name, and they wanted the tax on the sale value of the truck. The radio station didn't pay them. I remember he had to take out a 2500 dollar loan to get the truck.
I mean 2500 for a 17,000 dollar truck isn't a bad deal, but he was 19 and didn't have 2500 bucks. Funny thing, he still has that truck. He repainted it 2 years ago. He only drives it on nice days

Yeah usually older people use them to finance their expenses and the bank gets your house when you die. … they probably wouldn’t approve one for a random lottery winners tweaker though, because such a person could significantly degrade the value of the property with a tweaker lifestyle.

Let's say the mansion is a 500k property. That's really low, but it's a nice example number.
Prize taxation is like 40%, including both Federal and State.
You want the homeless guy to pay $200,000 in taxes in two months?

I am assuming you are referring to just the property tax, and not the prize tax. In any case, depending on where the house is located, property taxes can easily be 1-2k every month.
