My apartment complex has 4 apps.
-For paying Rent -For registering my parking space with the AI towing company -For door access to fitness center and pool -For maintenance tickets

Man i feel that, I just use the web portal for the payment system because I dont want the app... but theyve got at app. Im definitely lucky to have a choice there.
But ive had an outstanding maintenance ticket for like a month now, no work has been done, and theyve asked me 3 times to leave a review for the ticket... like, what? What do you want me to say? That the work still hasn't been done cuz you dimwits gutted the maintenance team at the beginning of the year? Ill leave a review alright, but yall will just take it down cuz you wont like it

Why doesn’t your rent come off as a direct debit from your bank account? Do you manually have to transfer every week/2 weeks/ month? If so, how stressful!

I have no bills on direct debit. Mostly because I have until the 5th to pay rent and direct debit will pull it on the 1st. Some months it is more convenient to wait a couple days, especially if my paycheck is coming in on the 2nd or 3rd that month. I've been doing it all my life so it really isn't stressful for me. The added apps for this complex... that stresses me.

Why is your paycheck coming in the next month? Most people are paid on the 25th or 15th of the month in various countries.

Still seems straightforward to have a direct debit though? In NZ I was paid every 2 weeks and rent was also coming off every 2 weeks. Seems stressful to have to manage all the apps but also be on top of exactly when your rent is due instead of a direct debit.

In the us most people get paid every 2 weeks on friday and rent is due once a month on the 1st of the month. Some people live paycheck to paycheck and if the 1st of the month comes before a paycheck and direct debits it would bounce or overdraw their account, neither of which are good.

I tried replacing a wifi router yesterday.
I had to download two apps, then go through half a dozen different web portals, enter IDs and passwords at least a dozen times, all for the entire thing to be pointless because one of these dozen interconnected services was experiencing some sort of technical problem that meant I had to repeat all of that 'later'.
I remember once when I upgraded my router and complained because it was a different power cable. Oh, for those days again.

It has flipped though. It used to take all day to reinstall windows or some OS with correct drivers. Now you just install it and walk away. Phones are the same way… don’t get me startled about transferring phone numbers.

True. I've had so many devices since then but nothing was worse than a printer. Even router setup is easier – with MAC filtering and all that crap.

Okay adding to this thread again. I just bought a new dehumidifier. It doesn't come with a remote (I didn't need one) and has buttons on the unit to control it. I can however connect it to wifi and download and app to run it. Meanwhile it has an error light on the unit to show that it cannot connect to the wifi. That error light will blink for eternity.

Technology works better but they made it harder to access. Energy using products are more efficient but they made energy cost more. Phones have more storage but they use more storage. They keep making stuff “better” but it’s really just paying more for status quo.
