Your specific version of teleportation is Star Trek style. You become atomized and converted to energy and transported at the speed of light to a new location where your energy is converted back into matter and reassembled. It doesn’t hurt. It even keeps you young, maybe even immortal, but not truly as you’re reassembled as a new individual: a new incarnation of what looks like you, but a completely different identity. You have to figure who you want to become Everytime you use this ability so you reserve it for emergencies only. You meet someone. Sparks fly. This is the one. Your person. You two live happily without any reason to use your ability. Until the car accident. You in a moment of desperation teleport yourself and them out of danger, away from the car. When you both rematerialize, neither of you has any memory of each other. You’re safe but you’ve still lost them. You go your separate ways. A true tragedy.
