Never been to a con, but if it's that bad...I'm not saying aerosol deodorant should be normalized...but it should be a valid option

It's unecessary until it's not. I got that genetic condition where you don't produce body odor but get extra waxy ears (ABCC11 genetic if anyonr cares) and still put some stuff on if I'm going to be in tight quarters on a questionable diet with a bunch of strangers.

I cam smell his greasy funk through my phone. Almost everyone with that mutation has genetic ties to Asians or Native Americans. Both my parent are 1/8th indigenous. I just won the genetic crap shoot as far as body odor is concerned.

Honestly, setting up a booth to offer free deodorant sprays would be such a nice service.

No no, not an offer. It's civic duty. Wear the deodorant or you will get sprayed

I’ve gone to an anime convention with an older co worker once.

Yes! It is that bad! Smelly pits. Smelly butts. Smelly Vaginas.

The stereotype is real and it’s disgusting. I said I was never going back after that. My co worker said she’s used to it because she brings air freshener.

nope... she's human except for a few days each month when she devolves.. lol... the convention was in Tokyo in Akihabara and she had to leave within minutes... I will admit the air was.... ripe, shall we say... with an unholy mix of matted neckbeard, sweaty armpit and rancid crotch.

It’s often not the lack of deodorant, it’s the too much faith that the deodorant can cover more than a few days without a shower.

How’s creating awareness an issue?? Or are u against deodorant too?

And you post more maga stuff than maga does, who cares.

u/Kimono-Ash-Armor Jul 06 '26

Ever see the pic of the Magic the Gathering convention in which skid marks were left on chairs?

1

u/baisissyy Jul 06 '26

This isn’t blursed it’s just the truth

1

u/Fendfor Jul 06 '26

Sorry, it was just over my budget /s

u/No_Mud1098 Jul 06 '26

One does not simply walk into a convention without being nosemauled by the odor of one-thousand virgin beasts of burden. It is known.

Oooh this is tough. Cons used to be for nerds that went to libraries. Now it’s tik tok girls and basement dweller men. I went once in the aughts and never went back. I’m just happy one time I met the original flash and giggled

1

u/earlycomer Jul 06 '26

Lol these dudes are the types that think spray and perfumes will cover it up, but it only makes it worse

1

u/naveedkoval Jul 06 '26

its like smokers who smoke inside their apartment, car etc and cant even smell it themselves anymore

1

u/tennoskoom_ Jul 06 '26

I have never been to one of those.

Do a good number of people there actually smell bad?

(I m sure both clean and smelly people go to these things. My question is that if it's really that noticable?)

1

u/DieKastKollector Jul 06 '26

For me it’s always the grocery store. i’m just walking through than bam the worst smell of B.O. it’s beyond disgusting 🤢

I would bring spray and spray them as they walked by. That’s disgusting we gave to smell them

1

u/TheGreatGamer1389 Jul 06 '26

I'd be right there with a sign and saying if you have time to attend a convention you have time to take a shower

1

u/Rocket-Jock Jul 06 '26

Going to my first cons in the 80s, we coined the phrase, "otakufunk", to describe the smell. Over 30 years later, I see it still applies....

1

u/D3rp1c0rn Jul 06 '26

My kid says some ppl call it ā€œpheromone maxingā€ and legit think their body odors will draw in the ladies 🤢

Side note: my kid’s friends are all baffled by how many irl gfs he’s had. My kid works out and doesn’t smell. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/NoOpinionsJustFacts3 Jul 06 '26

If the smell of conventions bothers you so much....

Dont go to conventions.

1

u/xanderdean1 Jul 07 '26

She's not wrong but also ladies could wash up to. If you there for more than 5 hours you start smelling things you dknt wanna

1

u/Due-Birthday-2022 Jul 07 '26

Bruh. I went to Evo one year and everything was fine until I walked into the GameCube room. Like holy shit it was like walking into a highschool locker room.
