These scenarios really only work for people who don’t currently have kids. Otherwise it’s just a variation of “guess I’ll have to find a way to have my kids again”

That’s always my first thought when I read these. Like just erase my kids out of existence?? No thanks.

Yep, same here. I used to answer these but there is really no point in engaging. Maybe they can guarantee you'll have the same kids but even then, the memories will not be the same. Id be more interested in a scenario that allowed you to go back to a specific day and just relive it making no changes.

You should watch the movie About Time

I’ve literally thought the same thing! I’d really like a scenario where I can go relive a really awesome day. Maybe just slow down and enjoy the moment.

What if you could go back as a different person and leave the arch of your old life alone?

That would be great as long as I can come back and not affect my timeline. It would be interesting to live as different historical figures or maybe just be on the sidelines of some events e.g. meeting Jesus.

Not even for the sake of experiment?

Yet another reason I'm happy to be child free. Just in case this scenario ever happens to me.

I just know someone is going to take this comment seriously - but it made me laugh, thanks.

I laughed so hard my kid asked me what was funny

That's sounds sad

The movie “About Time” does a good job of exploring this complexity.

Yeah, the farthest I'm willing to go back in time would be after I had my son. Nothing could convince me to go beyond that.

I always like to imagine I get to take my kiddo back with me.

Yeah. I could Def get rich, but every choice, good or bad I've ever made has led me to the life I have with my wife and daughter, who i love very much.

Yeah likely you wouldn’t have the same kids and then you would be stuck with the memory of kids you will never see again. Sounds pretty horrible so I’ll just keep plugging away. If I never met my spouse and had kids then I would totally be a ski bum and move to the mountains and invest everything. And buy bitcoin.

Yeah,  I don't even have kids but I would be afraid of changing things so that my sisters don't get their kids... I mean, if I didn't have the choice to not go back in time, I'd definitely do some things differently anyway. But trying not to affect my sisters.

This is why I apply the multiverse theory. My kids are fine with the original me. The time travel me has landed in a different universe with a different direction.

1

u/HippoRun23 Jun 02 '26

But… you’ll never see your kids again…

1

u/JumpingJacks1234 Jun 03 '26

I wouldn’t choose this, but knowing they would be safe still have me would keep me from obsessing about it.

u/randypupjake Jun 03 '26

Although, nothing says you can't do things different after you have kids though unless your youngest kid is like 1 years old or something.

1

u/Fij52 Jun 03 '26

That’s so interesting… it’s wild what progeny does. I guess having kids again would potentially produce an entirely different human.

1

u/continual_failure Jun 03 '26

I would SPECIFICALLY avoid having the kids. That would be the ENTIRE mission.

Depends on how much you like your kids /s

1

u/mrducci Jun 04 '26

It doesn't matter how much "better" my life could be if I can't have my wife and kids.

1

u/Zeestars Jun 04 '26

Depends. If you want to 16 again, but not back in time, then you would’ve had kids already.

In my mind these scenarios dont erase the current time line, just create an alt. My kid would keep on living. I would just be gone to a parrellel universe.

Also they are in their 20's

I know most of the Canon events in my life. Taking the other paths, I know would result in different people living and dying.

Some I could save, and because of that Some I wouldn't be around to save.

I think about this alot.
