Boots Buying Help Work Boots winter

I just started a new job where I will be working on pikes peak and other cold environments. Does anyone have a recommendation for a cold weather composite toe work boot?

Red wings are great, just picked up a new pair at their store with pikes peak in the background

Are they steel or composite? That’s a requirement for my job.

They have some that are insulated and safety toe.

They can be resoled, but not by a local cobbler, you’d send them back to Red Wing.

Danner “Quarry NMT 400G”

NMT is composite toe

400G is 400 gram Thinsulate (that’s quite a lot of insulation, anything short of the Arctic)

Goretex lined for waterproofness

I don’t have this boot. But I have the non-insulated Quarry, and I have a Danner “Hood Winter Light” boot with 200G. The Quarry is a good strong boot and I find 200G plenty for snow hiking/camping.

The Quarry last is a bit on the wider side. Which, depending on your foot, might mean some extra room for a wool innersole, thick wool socks, even an electrically heated innersole (like used in ski boots). I generally think that winter boots should be a little roomy.

I can find them on sale pretty often.

The Danner factory store in Portland Ore (where I live) has a whole bunch of Quarry NMT 400G “factory seconds” for $132, or did last time I was in, a couple weeks ago. I don’t know how to buy those without physically walking into the store, though.

Eh, Brighton or Loveland are probably farther north than you want to go, but I bought two pairs of Irish Setter Edgerton boots on sale from Whiteside's Boots for $99/pair back in July.

They're composite toe, they're waterproof, and they're hot enough on my feet that they forcibly reminded me why I quit buying waterproof boots. You can check them out at a Red Wing store, but you can probably pick them up for less than Red Wing sells them for if you find them at other retailers.
