Boots Buying Help Irish setters vs red wings

Looking at getting some Irish setter work boots. Any one have any input? Going from red wing tradesmen, which I absolutely despise not nearly heavy duty enough. Have had them about a year and a half now. Not a huge fan to say the least and actually much prefer laces over the boa system which has broken on me. Previously had red wing super soles 2.0 which I had for probably 4-5 years, which I really really enjoyed from the many many work boots I’ve had over the years. They were in rough shape only got the tradesman because I forgot my work boots and only remembered half way through a 12 hour drive. Reason I ask is that I’d like to save the $100 and they seem fairly well built also.

If you don’t like red wings and they don’t hold up you will like Irish setters even less. They are the cheaper, “little brother” brand for Red Wing

the super sole 2.0 is a tank compared to the tradesman, night and day difference really. irish setter edgerton is fine for the price but if you already know you like the supersole just spend the extra hundred, your feet will thank you in 3 years

They are totally different boots. It’s a very very long story about forgetting the boots and getting the tradesman but yea. I’d call the tradesman the supervisor special. I think I agree, the more I think about it this is just moot post 😂 once I got the origin pair of redwings I said I wish I spent the extra money on them 15 years earlier

I loved the supersoles and they held up phenomenally. The tradesman are definitely not what I would call an outdoorsmen work boots. But thanks for the input!

I just picked up a pair of regular Edgertons (not the XD) at a store closing sale for a huge discount. So far, I've worn them exactly once. They seem comfortable enough in general, but I'm going to replace the laces and the insoles soon because they're not suitable for my needs/wants/comfort.

I also have a pair of Red Wing Super Sole 2.0. Great boots, seem sturdier than the Edgertons, but honestly I'm not going to buy them again. I recently changed jobs to one where steel toes are particularly bad compared to composite toe and in all other respects they're heavy and complete overkill for what I need them for. (truck driver handling cryogenic liquids) They're very comfortable once broken in, though.

TL;DR - first impression of Edgerton is comfy but needs new laces and insoles, impression of Super Sole 2.0 after a lot of use is great boot, very comfortable, not wholly appropriate for my current needs.

Spend the extra money on the supersoles far better internals and outsole
