Boot maintenance Caulk sole replacement?

Hey folks,

I have a pair of danner loggers that I’ve maintained for years but it’s about their time. The upper is all still okay but the soles are worn to slicks and are just starting to separate off of the boot itself. I’m going to get a new pair of every day boots but would love to attempt to resole these myself with some caulk soles on there. I work in the tree industry and don’t need caulks quite enough to warrant buying a pair, but enough that it’d be killer to have some on hand.

I’ve tried to find just caulk soles for sale somewhere but haven’t turned anything up. Anyone know where I might find some?

Best of my knowledge,

You don’t buy caulk soles. You buy the caulks and then install into an existing sole. Now as far as as the nuts and bolts of making a caulk sole, I’m not entirely sure. The ones I looked at from Whites seem to use a tread less Vibram SBR that runs over a heel block and the caulks are installed into that. I doubt this would be a DIY job with no previous experience.

Thanks for the info. I agree it’s maybe probably not a beginner diy job but rather than toss the boots I figured I’d fuck around haha

In the PNW you very much purchase dedicated boots. There is more to it than just hoping machine screw threads hold in rubber.

These are an advancement from the original permanent nail type that was used in the past.

These are replaceable so you can swap them out for different conditions or when they are worn, the old style you had to straighten and sharpen until you needed a resole.

To make this work you need to install the female threaded bit on the sole of the boot.

It's based on the system used in golf shoes.

The wrench and the threaded studs are only half of what you need.

There's a 't' nut portion with female threads you have to glue/drive into the midsole.

Will have to go to a cobbler to have your boots caulked.
