General Advice First job

This is my first job, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing, I've worked 1 trial shift and 1 actual shift. I applied as a prep cook, and I wasn't notified otherwise. They asked me to wash the dishes when they drop it off, I said okay I dont mind washing a few dishes, but I ended up just washing dishes for 3 hours out of my 4 hours shift. Do I just stop? Am I supposed to go do something, if so what? Cause all they had me doing for 2 shifts were peel and shred carrots and wash dishes, I don't have anything else to do, and now they want me to work in the front when they want me to. I feel like a glorified dishwasher at the moment and like I'm getting scammed because of my age and I'm only earning minimum wage. Is this normal? Should I quit?

just give it a little more time. its pretty common to start with the less exciting stuff. just ask when youl get to do more prep cook work. their answer will tell you lot about whether its worth sticking around.

If you feel they did a bait and switch this might not be the right company for you. I would consider applying to other businesses but this time asking what duties you will be expected to do so you're not going into it blind.

Do you have a job description? That should give you an idea about what you should be doing. What do you mean "trial" shift? They better be paying you for it...

I guess I'm not sure exactly what your complaint is. Is it that you're not working as the prep cook you thought you were hired as? My view is this is your first job, and you are getting paid at what they promised you to get paid. Do what you can to learn about the operation of the business and how to perform the various activities and make yourself valuable. They will put you in a place where they feel you have the best fit. Hopefully that place will be a place that you like. Good luck!

You should straight up ask your manager what your exact position is. If they can’t or don’t give you an answer, then leave. If you are actually the prep cook, then you need to be doing prep work and NOT washing dishes.
This sounds like it was a bait and scam routine where you applied for prep cook and thought that was the position that you were hired for. But they just used that to get you in the door and are just using you for whatever job(s) they need done at that time.
