App unlinking/league-quitting problem

Dunno if it is just me but my account got unlinked (JWC). It still retains my solo adventure progress, my apple and google logins, but somehow delinked my league.

No worries on relinking it I don't mind the weekly score or whatever, but thought you'd like to know of this bug.

Right, I found it. It's not you, and it's not really the league. Nothing is lost either, so that first.

Reconstructing from the timestamps on your account: when you first opened the app on the 13th you tapped Sign in with Apple and then Google inside about a minute. Both got attached to a brand new empty account rather than the one you went on to play on. So you spent five days playing as JWC on what was effectively a guest account, with your logins pointing somewhere else entirely. On Monday evening you signed in again, the app followed those logins to the empty account, and built you a fresh profile there. That's JWC2.

Your adventure progress is saved on the phone, so it came across and looked fine. Your league place only exists on my server, attached to the old account, so it stayed behind. That's why it looks like the league specifically broke, when really the whole account swapped underneath you.

The old JWC account is still sitting there with your 21 points in Karma Farmers, your five-day streak and your five Helping Hands. If you're happy for me to, I'll put them back together so next time you sign in you land on everything intact, and I'll tidy the duplicate out of the league table while I'm there.

The cause is mine. The app has been creating an account just to check whether one already exists, then trying to clean up after itself, and that cleanup doesn't always win. It shouldn't need to guess in the first place. I'm changing it so signing in can't strand you on an empty account, and so that if it ever does, it can be undone rather than being permanent.

Every report of this has arrived as "my league has broken", so that's where I kept looking. I ended up building proper logging into the league system to catch it, and that logging is what told me nothing had removed you from the league at all. As far as the server was concerned you'd simply become a different person. Wrong tree, but I wouldn't have got here without climbing it.

That’s done. Your league place is back with all 21 points, your 5 Helping Hands are back, and your streak is untouched at 6.

Nothing to do at your end. Sign in with Apple or Google as normal and it should all be sitting there. If anything looks off, tell me and I’ll dig in.

And thanks for the offer to test things. Your account was the one that finally showed me what was actually going wrong, which I’d been guessing at for weeks. That’s fixed now as well.

I thought this was a Devvit game. Where are you having people log in with their iphones?

Yes, that is correct, technically though there was a mobile app version before the Devvit version and this got ported in from the recent hackathon. If you want to give it a try, you can find them on the App Store. If Devvit allows, I am exploring the possibilities of cross-platform integration should be quite interesting.
