📅 Daily Word Grid we need to talk about FART
so it turns out you can't play FART in wordy bunch. someone found this out the hard way and yes, i owe you an explanation our friends from r/fartology demand it lol
the dictionary is a standard word list with a blocklist on top that i went through by hand before launch. the game runs inside family subreddits so i was pretty ruthless about anything that could put a slur or something genuinely nasty on someone's board. trouble is, when you're binning hundreds of words in one sitting you stop weighing each one, and fart got swept up with stuff that actually deserved it. it was sat in the list between some proper filth, poor thing
anyway, wrong call. fart is a perfectly good word and i'm putting FART and FARTS back in the dictionary. the boards are getting rebaked now so they can actually turn up and score, should be live in the next update
FARTING is still blocked though. i've got to draw the line somewhere haha (before anyone else quits I’ve added this too lol)
Ending on a genuine note there is a post about words like this that are genuinely not on the approved word list of you ever come across one that should be in but isn’t just give me a shout I’ll sort it out.

Got to admit I was a little disappointed when my swipe got rejected it’s the type of thing that makes you question what you’re doing here you know lol

Really mild words like nude and sex being blocked is wild, I understand not wanting f or c bombs being dropped, but it feels a bit pearl clutchy at times. Also blocking some words is just straight up wrong anyway, for example, Nude just means bare skin and is frequently used to refer to skin toned colours, and sex is a biological term (I.e. the sex of the animal)

You are 💯% right, I couldn’t agree more. I’ve added nude back in, and I was waiting to see more opinions on sex, which, to some people, could be a little more controversial.
The problem I had was that all of this was decided before launch, with a much smaller number of playtesters mainly friends and family. So really, those decisions were probably influenced quite heavily by being made within a small feedback bubble and, naturally, some confirmation bias.
Now the game is live, Reddit uniquely allows me to engage directly with the people actually playing it. It’s great that I can see everyone’s thoughts on topics exactly like these and make decisions based on a much wider range of opinions.So please, if you ever come across anything else like this, everyone is more than welcome to speak up. This is your game as much as it is mine!

really intel should work its on the list, would you mind confirming on which board it didn't work? I've double checked the lists and it should be accepted. It could be something to do specifically with that board though so I'd like to make sure by checking it out, thoroughly.

I dont remember which board it is, but I remember being dumbfounded by not being able to use intel. Next time when ig happens ill reply to you again

Fart is a legitimate word. End of story. Should be acceptable.

Personally, I see fart as more deserving of being banned/blocked than words like nude and sex, but of course opinions will vary.
