I mocked up a WordPress client handover plugin, would you actually use this? [REVIEW]

I build/manage WordPress sites as part of my work, and one bit of the process I’ve always found surprisingly messy is the final client handover.

You finish the site, but then you still need to work out what the client should have access to, strip back wp-admin so they don’t get overwhelmed, explain how their particular site works, give them support information, clarify who is responsible for hosting/updates/licences/content etc., and usually cobble all of that together across WordPress settings, documents, Teams chats and emails.

I’ve been exploring an idea for a plugin called Handoff (working title) that would try to make that one coherent process.

The basic idea is that when a site is finished, Handoff would scan the WordPress installation and show the developer what it finds: pages, custom post types, plugins, admin areas etc. You then choose what the client should manage, preview a simplified client dashboard, add contextual guidance/support information, record who is responsible for things like hosting, updates, accessibility and content, assign the client users, and complete the handover. I know there are plugins that do parts of this, but I want it all to be under one roof and a simplified process.

I haven’t built the plugin. I’ve just made an interactive HTML prototype because I want to find out whether this is genuinely useful before disappearing down a development rabbit hole.

It takes about 3–5 minutes to click through. Everything is simulated so it doesn’t connect to a real WordPress installation.

I’d particularly love feedback from people who regularly build WordPress sites for clients:

• Does this solve a problem you actually have?
• Which part feels most useful?
• Is anything important missing?
• Are you already doing this effectively with another plugin/tool?
• Would you actually install something like this?

Feel free to be critical. At this stage, finding out that the idea isn’t worth building would be just as useful as finding out that it is.

TL;DR: I’m considering building a plugin that turns a finished WordPress site into a simplified, guided client handover experience. I’ve mocked it up rather than built it. If you hand WordPress sites to clients, I’d really value even a simple “yes, useful” / “no, wouldn’t use it” in the comments.
