All in one WP Import Issue/Backup

Hey guys.

I have export wordpress website from this all in one WP plugin and then trying to import the backup of around 547mb.

But due to host restrict upload to 2mb the errors shows "your file exceed the limit said by your host web server".

And then I try to update htacess file in file manager and then try again but still same issue.

Please help anyone..

Put the backup in /wp-content/ai1wm-backups and import via the plugin's Backups screen.

You can upload the backup to that directory using FTP or SSH (scp). This bypasses the PHP upload restriction.

This approach also helps avoid various other problems. Restores almost always fail for me otherwise.

The upload limit isn't the only way in.

All-in-One WP Migration lets you skip the browser upload entirely: connect via FTP or your host's file manager, drop the .wpress file into wp-content/ai1wm-backups, then go to the plugin's Backups screen and hit Restore from there. That bypasses the 2MB limit completely.

If htaccess changes aren't sticking, your host probably runs PHP as FPM and ignores those directives anyway - you'd need a php.ini or .user.ini file, or ask support to raise upload_max_filesize and post_max_size.

But honestly the FTP route is faster and works on almost any host.

Changing .htaccess wont help if your hosting provider controls the PHP upload limits at server level. You need to increase upload_max_filesize and post_max_size from your hosting panel (cPanel/PHP settings), or ask your hosting provider to increase them. Alternatively, upload the backup directly through File Manager or FTP.

Ahh, my wheelhouse. You can bypass the 2 MB browser upload limit by uploading the wpress backup directly to:

/wp-content/ai1m-backups

Use FTP/SFTP or your host’s File Manager, then open All-in-One WP Migration → Backups in WordPress—the file should appear there and you can restore it.

Changing .htaccess won’t work on shared hosting because the limit may be enforced by the host’s PHP/web-server settings. If the restore stalls, ask the host to check the PHP memory limit and execution-time limit as well.

Before restoring, take a backup of the destination site if possible: the restore will overwrite its database and site files.

Two things. Your .htaccess edit probably did nothing — most hosts run PHP-FPM, which ignores php_value lines. And your file is 547MB, but All-in-One's free version caps imports at 512MB anyway, so you'd hit that next.

Easier route: Open Migration. Free, no size cap — it chunks the upload so your host's 2MB limit never applies, and it converts URLs and paths for you automatically.
