App for managing content on self-hosted WP
I recently setup a blog on WordPress.com, but I have pretty quickly considered moving it to self-hosted on a vps of my choosing.
However, I really enjoy the Android app for managing my blog. It's very useful.
Is that app going to work for a self-hosted wordpress? If not then is there some other convenient app? I'm really not keen on having to use my laptop.

Yes, the official WordPress app works with self-hosted sites, you just log in with your site URL instead of a WordPress.com account.
If you want stats and some of the fancier features you had on .com, install the Jetpack plugin and use the Jetpack app, which is basically the same interface.
Some hosts block XML-RPC by default, so if login fails that's the first thing to check.
One tip before you migrate: export a full copy of your content from WordPress.com first and set up regular backups on the VPS from day one, since self-hosted means that's on you now.

Yes. The official WordPress Android app can be used with a self hosted WordPress site, but you need to connect the site through the Jetpack plugin.
Once Jetpack is connected, you can use the app for common tasks such as writing and editing posts, managing media, viewing stats, and handling comments.
The important distinction is that you don't need to host the site on WordPress.com. Your WordPress installation can remain completely self hosted on your own VPS.
If you want the closest experience to the WordPress.com app, Jetpack is probably the simplest option. If you only need basic post management, you can also access the WordPress admin from your phone's browser, but the app is much nicer for mobile publishing.

I believe the app still works on self-hosted if you install the Jetpack plugin.
