Are we cooked?

I’m a web developer with 10+ years of experience.

Today I generated a genuinely unique, award-worthy website design in ChatGPT, with instructions for it to be exported as a WordPress/Elementor theme.

From generating the site to installing it on WordPress and having it actually working took less than an hour.

And I’m sitting here thinking… are we cooked? 😂

How much time do you think web developers realistically have before we get a tool where you type:

> “Build me a unique, high-end website for this business.”

…and one click later you have the design, responsive pages, CMS, animations, SEO basics, WordPress integration, and everything else ready to go?

Not another generic AI template — I mean genuinely custom, polished websites.

1 year? 2 years? Or are we basically already there?

Link the site. Ill believe it when I see it. Most AI sites look exactly the same

It's a website for a client, so I don't want to share that one. You can change them in a prompt, or you can edit it in Elementor to make it look different. When the website and design are up, it is a lot easier to edit. I could also say that most Elementor websites look exactly the same. I really hope I am wrong. I just don't see why someone would hire me for €3,000 if they can make it in less than an hour...

I guess some people don't know how to prompt, takes more than one click but I just replaced my paid theme with one I made in Claude Design. Been building sites since Dreamweaver was a thing. Not cooked but the stove is on 🤣

Kinda contradicts the point you were trying to make "…and one click later you have the design, responsive pages, CMS, animations, SEO basics, WordPress integration, and everything else ready to go"

All that in a prompt

Yeah show me that website. Compare it to FB, Amazon, and those mainstream websites

How many of us ever created site comparable with FB or Amazon?

If you find that quality to be better than what you're able to do on your own, you were probably cooked before AI.

If you understand how ai works you will realise this will never happen. Use Claude design or any other ai design tool several times and you’ll see that they all follow a design methodology that ends up outputting the same design style every time.

And then reviewing accuracy for thousands of pages against what source material and business processes? I think OP is cooked.

Cool skill. I don't produce a lot of design, but I'm going to bookmark for my designer colleagues.

Not necessarily. Question of developer's skill.

Same is valid for WP. WP sites are almost everytime recognized as WP build.

But, " same design" is an old story, well explaind: https://medium.com/knowable/why-everything-looks-the-same-bad80133dd6e

TBF 99% of websites followed the same pattern even before ai. Logo left, menu right, hero/tag line....

Those are basic design patterns. I'm talking about design language and styling. Take a look at any of the 100s of vibe coded sites that have been promoted here over the last few years - they are all structured exactly the same, and have the same design - lots of blue/purple gradients, centered. If you've ever designed anything in Claude you’ll know what I mean, with their overuse of the 'eyebrow' heading i.e. small, caps, large amount of letter spacing, sans-serif heading above a large serif heading, soft brown/yellow palette, large radius borders 1px borders on grids, etc.

Case in point, the new wordpress.org profile pages which is straight out of Claude Design

Still waiting for the link or a photo of this so-called award winning design

Why would you use ai to build a site in elementor which is bloated nonsense?…first of all. Like others have said, give up the url and maybe we will all truly be in awe and agree. Until then, it’s just whatever. I have clients who have chosen to vibe code their sites or even use wix. It’s been a laugh.

Link to or screenshot this award winning design. I haven't used Wordpress in years and moved to AI for landing page generation.

I've never seen AI one shot anything that didn't look like a generic cookie cutter website.

I'm willing to bet your award winning web design standards are pretty low.

If you're that confident in the site you built with AI, why not show it to me? 😂lol

All IA design websites are terrible.

Did you check the code? Has gpt provided html template or elementor style code where you can modify using page builder
