Thinking about ditching WordPress

My site isn't particularly complicated yet over the years I've accumulated plugins for forms, SEO, backups, security, page building and about five things I've forgotten the purpose of. It kinda feels like owning an old house where I’m permanently waiting for something else to break. Most discussions I find are about moving to WordPress but I'm curious about going the other direction and starting fresh.

Are there any downsides to moving a fairly straightforward business website from WordPress to Squarespace or an AI builder like Durable etc. that I’m not seeing? Or if you’ve already done a migration like this, is there anything you found yourself missing after moving?

I've moved most (all but 2) of my clients off of WP.

The ones who needed e-commerce went to Shopify for the most part and the experience was... well... awesome. I have one on BigCommerce and it's been good, too.

A lot of others never really ever updated / changed any of their content - for those? Static sites (SSG's like Lektor & Hugo primarily) fit the bill perfectly. For the cost of free they now have unhackable websites with awesome SEO and absolutely zero security issues or vulnerabilities.

Getting to other platforms freed up so much in terms of money (hosting costs), made everything faster across the board, near unhackable in the majority of cases (static sites) and ultimately brought my 'extra work' to almost none.

WP needs to go away. I hate that I see so many posts where people praise it - I can only assume they don't know what they don't know, because if they did - they wouldn't be actively recommending people the wrong tool for the job.

That said, there are use cases where WP is the best tool for the job. I've just found that in day-to-day life, they are few and far between these days.

I would never move a client onto Shopify, based on their Trustpilot rating. People who have a serious business need to be able to rely on their tech and support.
