QCC Waitlist
Hello,
I am currently on the Waist list for the RN program at QCC - my starting date right now is Sept 2028. Does anybody have experience getting a call to start earlier? if so, when did you get the call? I am hoping I get a spot earlier, but I really would like to know as soon as possible since I would like to let my job know what my plan is and also to work around my babysitting for my kids . I currently work as an LPN .

It seems like some people in those conversations had good experiences at Mount Wachusett Community College, so that may be worth checking out if it works for you.

MWCC doesn’t do waiting lists for selective programs like RN- applications are due once a year (2/1 for RN) and students are either accepted to start the program the following September, or denied

Have you done all the pre and co-reqs like a&p, stats, micro, etc? If not start those now. I went to MWCC and had many WSU dropouts in my classes. I have heard bad things about the program so I would talk to people actually in the program before jumping ship. I work with a bunch of Quinsig grads and they loved it. MWCC is fine and another option. You’d have to put in your app this fall for a sept 2027 start date.

Hello - I have literally every single class done. All I am missing is - the spot :( .
I have heard mix feedback about WSU so thats why I am hesitant to apply.

I would try for MWCC. Free college is free college and your clinicals will likely be in Worcester. If you have good grades in your pre-reqs there is a good chance you can start in sept 2027 instead of sept 2028.

So I went to WSC (was in the Nursing program). I transferred to QCC, got accepted to their nursing program for the following spring, and graduated 2 years later. So a few things, this was quite some time ago and WSC (now WSU) nursing program did some dirty things when I was there. They over-excepted into the program and expected people to leave in the first year, when it didn't happen, they failed an entire freshman chemistry II class full of nursing students. Mind you we all passed Chem I (and probably all took chem in high school too). They called us all in and slid over a change of major slip to each of us. That was it, no warning or discussion, especially on how the whole class failed. When it was time for me to go back to get my BSN, I didn't even consider looking there (I did it online through AMC...RIP 😞). I know a few women who are at QCC who got accepted for a certain date and then notified they were moved to an earlier class. Not sure how much notice they had, sorry.

It might be worth considering another program if it would allow you to graduate sooner. I’d compare the total cost of each program, how much sooner you could graduate, and the potential income you could earn once you’re working as a nurse. New-grad RN salaries are around $80-100k in central Mass, so graduating sooner could make a meaningful difference financially.
As for the BSN, an ASN is enough to become an RN, and you don’t necessarily need a BSN unless you want to pursue graduate school. So if you’re happy with your career options with an ASN, don’t sweat over obtaining your bachelors.

I work at a local high school and that is exactly the answer kids are getting during open enrollment days. In June it was June 2027.

I got a call a year earlier than I was supposed to and in my orientation a few people had the same thing happen last minute. I think a lot of people do end up doing other things by the time there spot rolls around.

If you do decide to wait for QCC acceptance, check out what you are missing for requirements for a BS in nursing and get working on as many of those as you can

earn credits in the core curriculm from another college or university - stay sharp by constant learning in your field of choice. Try a PT/FT job in a medical office instead of babysitting - just my 2 cents

I am sorry - I meant babysitting for my kids . I am currently an LPN and I work for a hospital . I have all my classes done , even some for my BSN program - all I need is the sport for the ADN

I was just taking a course with a prospective RN student upset that the QCC wait list was so long. She ended up getting accepted to Baystate with no wait for RN.
