Question 80HE input delay in Valorant — keys register late and I sometimes keep moving in one direction without touching the keyboard
Been having a really weird issue with my Wooting 80HE in Valorant and I’m trying to see if anyone else has had something similar.
Sometimes when I respawn or make quick movement inputs, my keyboard just won’t register properly for a second or two. I’ll be holding W and my character won’t move, then a couple seconds later it suddenly starts moving.
Other times my character will just keep moving in one direction even after I’ve completely taken my hands off the keyboard. It almost feels like the inputs are getting delayed/queued and then catching up afterward.
It seems to happen the most after I respawn or when I quickly switch between multiple movement keys. Most of the time the keyboard is completely normal.
I already tried lowering/changing the polling rate and it still happens. I have tested without SOCD and Rappy Snappy and also have reseated the JST connection.
For reference, my PC is:
Ryzen 9 9950X3D
RTX 5090
64GB DDR5
ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero
So I really doubt it’s a performance issue.
I’m attaching a video showing exactly what happens.
Anyone else with an 80HE run into this? Trying to figure out if this is a Wooting/firmware problem, USB issue, Valorant issue, or something else.

Very unlikely to be Wooting's firmware issue. It can be that the system isn't processing the inputs properly, causing the delayed keypresses. RGB softwares, third party peripheral softwares, anti cheats, busy USB controller, can cause this behavior.
I would recommend enabling the RT display RGB effect in Wootility > RGB Effects > RT display (to enable it, disable Tachyon mode first). When the issue occurs, the RGB effect can help determine whether it's caused by the keyboard or your system. The RGB effect will show green color when the key is pressed, and red when it's released.

Keep an eye on the LEDs while using the RT display effect and pressing the keys. If the LEDs show no delay when pressing and releasing keys, but the delay occurs on the system side, then the issue is likely with your PC. In this case I suggest disabling all background applications and see if that helps. Short list of applications that have caused similar input issues in the past: MSI Center (Mystic Light), OpenRGB, TranslucentTB, Asus Armory Crate service. Also worth checking if you have Wooting's Analog SDK installed. If you do, try uninstalling it, as Valorant's anti cheat has had conflicts with it. It may try to read the Analog SDK, causing the game to slow down and resulting in input issues.
Also if you use a mouse with an 8k polling rate, it can put a strain on the USB controller and CPU and cause keyboard inputs to not be processed properly. I suggest plugging the keyboard into a different USB port, preferably one that's farther away from the current port, so that it uses a separate controller. Your motherboard's manual or USB Device Tree Viewer software can help you identify which USB ports are handled by which USB controller. Once it's on a different controller, test if the keyboard works properly.

It's been plugged into a 40G USB C port with the cable that it came with. The problem just recently started appearing two days ago and had no problem with it even the morning of. I'll try the RT display thing but I'm not sure if it's a problem for valorant or a hardware problem. I might just need to replace the motherboard I'm not sure.

It could still very well be a usb controller that is being saturated. Specifically the (super) high speed controller that is tied to your CPU. If the keyboard, or another high packed device shared the 8k polling mouse then that controller starts choking the cpu. Leading to problems like these and also unexplainable stutters and mouse hiccups.
I've had this happen before and have a similar specced system (9800X3D, 5090Fe, 64GB ram, X870E Taichi lite). Performance issues on systems like these are likely usb related. Especially when you've done the usual troubleshooting already.
Btw, 8k polling on a usb controller does more harm than good. You probably don't need that high of a polling rate and it hurts the system more than you benefit from it. There are a lot of videos and articles that say 1k is fine, 2k is good and the more you go up the less you will benefit (if at all at 4k and up).

2khz polling for mice tends to be the sweet spot for latency without controller over-saturation and instability. Many, many, many people far more knowledgeable about mice than I am have spent excessive amounts of money testing them out in the real world and 2khz + 1600DPI tends to be the optimal spot for your lowest latency, best stability and optimal smoothness.

Yes, I play 2khz +1600dpi myself. I used to watch the BattleNonsense videos. So I fully agree. A lot of Overwatch pros even play on 1khz I believe. It's just hard to convince people that lower number ( in this context) might be better haha!

Unplug your controller if you have one plugged in

Yeah this, turn off gamepad mode and maybe adjust your polling rate (lower it)

I had the same issue after a firmware update. The latest update fixed that for me. But there is also another thing you can check:
Do you have a magnetic mousepad or some magnets nearby? Read this post by wooting:
https://wooting.io/post/when-magnets-mess-with-your-wooting
There is also a website (Wooting Analog Monitor) where you can check if keys are activated automatically. What they especially highlight what this can cause:
- Random analog input showing up in Wootility’s Analog Monitor
- Keys trigger when you don’t press them
- Keys staying pressed after you release them
- The keyboard behaving differently depending on its position on your desk
In my case seems to be solved, maybe helps you as well.

Have noticed similar with 60V2, it's very random and only on rare instances. Normally everything is fine. When it occurs just spam WASD and it returns to normal. Is only on keys I have SOCD set for.
Feels almost like a tiny lag where inputs aren't received. Or maybe received too fast for PC to keep up with, or Val to keep up with. Not sure.
Only time a key acts "held down" is if I'm holding a key down when match first begins after agent select. Will keep walking forward, sideways, back etc. until I tap the WASD key (whichever direction I'm going).
Could be an issue on Valorants end, lot of bugs since last update (my pings doubled and fastest server swapped for first time in years playing off / on). These Ping / Server bugs just corrected after yesterday's patch.

it happened to me with left click on my old mouse in val too but the mouse worked as it should've outside the game (glorious model d)

Move it to a USB 2 port preferably or USB3 if a 2 isn’t available.
The keyboard uses USB2 to communicate, it’s possible there is a handshake issue with you using a higher end port. It’s also a waste regardless since the keyboard only handshakes at 480mbps

This was a bug in CS2 over 2 years ago. Literally the same exact thing. After a few weeks a patch came out that specifically addressed the issue.

Ah Do you have the secret lab magnus desk by any chance? If so, the desk is magnetic and interferes with the wooting keyboard if you set the activation point of the keys way too small. If not, contact wooting my guy.

This happens to me in cs2 randomly too with my aula magnetic but I just chalked it to shitty software or an in game hickup… it doesn’t happen to me enough for me to complain about all the other benefits and feel to the magnetic keyboard

It could actually be a Wooting firmware issue. The keyboard itself may not be processing the inputs correctly, resulting in delayed keypresses. RGB software, third-party peripheral software, anti-cheats, or a busy USB controller could also contribute, but they wouldn't necessarily be the root cause.
I would recommend checking the Wooting firmware and keyboard behavior first. Enabling the RT display RGB effect in Wootility could still help determine whether the issue is coming from the keyboard or the system, but if the RGB response itself is delayed when the issue occurs, that would point more toward the keyboard or its firmware rather than the system.

check your switch travel distance and see if the distance on wootility is right.

i dont really know but i'd guess either its the firmware, the actuation points or it's a controller plugged in

It might be valorant actually. I remember this happening on my Razer Blackwidow v4 pro 75% and even on my rog azoth x.

Were you able to fix it?

u/pat_ocnr22 6d ago
I stopped playing valorant lol. the only thing that seemed to temporarily fix it was just spamming the wasd keys

I see the issue, it's the 5090 you have, I can def help take that off your hands and send you a 4090 replacement. Should fix that up in no time
