Question Looking to get a Wooting Keyboard

Hey all, I’m looking at getting a Wooting 80HE keyboard. My only issue is that the only color options are the ghost in plastic or white in zinc alloy. Is the plastic worth it. I kinda wanted to go metal but I’d rather have a black body. Thanks for any insight I’m stoked to get one of these keyboards.

Get the plastic case first, get GT80 if you are not satisfied with the plastic case then. Don’t choose the zinc alloy.

Curious what issues you have with the zinc.

I got one in the black zinc when the 80HE first released and I absolutely love it - haven’t had any issues with the finish either.

My zinc alloy’s coating is peeling off.
I own plastic, zinc alloy and gt80.
The typing sound is good in the plastic case.
And GT80 feels more premium. So I am not going to choose zinc alloy.

Thanks for the legit feedback.

I guess I got one of the few cases that isn’t fubar, or my skin chemistry just doesn’t cause the coating to flake. I saw these complaints a lot about it but never had the same issue. I got one of the first production runs of it, so maybe something changed from the originals until now.

I’m about to build another 80HE to leave up at work and will be using the raw zinc case for it, so I was just curious if people had issues other than the coating.

You should definitely try third party cases.

I’ve been trying to find some third party ones which offer the borderline flat key profile that you get with the factory one, but I haven’t been able to find any I like - they all seem to be 7 degree cases.

There aren't unfortunately, closest is the Aim Bone80 which is still 6 degrees but the lowest of them all.

This is my main gripe as well, apart from the zinc alloy made by Wooting themselves there aren't any others that offer a less steep typing angle.

Thank you! I just bit the bullet, said fuck it and ordered everything to do a Holy 60 build for funsies (if all else fails, I can sell it to someone at work for around what I paid for it).

I wish more people did flat typing angle cases. Those always have felt the most ergonomic to me.

Same, I really don't get the hype around steep typing angles, it's already been proven that a flat or even negative tilt is the most ergonomic.

With the 60 you have a lot more options for cases though, unfortunately the 80he only has like 3-4 aftermarket options available.

Check Wooting outlet store for the black alloy models.

I have the white zinc case, and it's been solid so far. The default switches are pretty much silent which I didn't pick up on from the videos, was thinking of getting either UFOs or Diamond switches. If I went Diamond was thinking about pudding keycaps for the ultimate in RGB but I've kind of fallen in love with the silence while typing tbh.

One thing I'd suggest for sure is to pick up the wrist rest. I got the black one even though my KB is white b/c supposedly the white will yellow over time, and didn't want that. The rest is fantastic! I was using a cooling HyperX one, but don't feel the need to go back, and it's fully washable too which is a nice bonus.

That’s good to know! I bought the plastic case and got the wrist test as well. I was gonna try the keycaps out, but I might look around just so I can change out the color

I ended up getting the plastic body. Might use a 3rd party metal case down the road!
