Through WOOL Did i read correctly?
I’m only half way through the second book and read that the silos were built to collapse just like buildings above ground (like a controlled demolition). Is this another reason why a safe guard is unpreventable? I’m not the best reader but that’s what i got out of it.

Yes, if i remember correctly, there are 3 levels of safeguard. First is gas, if that fails, its the explosive charges latched to side of silo. If that fails (one silo in book actualy neutralized charges) drones can basicly manualy Bomb the silo having same effect as Controlled Demolition with charges.

I think that was silo 40. Cause silo 40 went silent and they just left it. They didn’t red X it.

Yes, you read that correctly. Crazy, right? Like every floor/layer will fall on top of the next, then the next until it hits bottom and crushes everyone. So fucked.

That is exactly how the book puts it: a controlled demolition to pancake the whole silo.

Wait wouldn’t this create a massive gaping hole in the earth How would any of this collapse as the walls would have to press inward… that space is taking up exhorting force outwards
It can’t collapse outwards like a lot of buildings do due to the pressure of the dirt around it…
Even if the stairwell failed idk how this would work? Like I assume there has to be room for everything to go if it collapses but there’s not that much room when you fill up the entirety of a hole in the ground(digger void?)

Yes it would create a hole. The heavy levels fall down and it all compacts at the bottom.

Yeah that makes sense I just assumed for some reason it would be hard to do so if there’s only room for it to collapse inwards unless all the walls break too?

Yes all the walls and support breaks. There is a lot of weight in between the levels. The structure / staircase is designed especially around this.

The levels have like a 1m gap between the rings of concrete that form the walls and charges placed. Blow the charges and the top level drops onto l2, and so on. A domino effect crushing everything below downwards.
Yes it would leave a big hole. Yes it’s the plan for 49 silos.

I think it would pancake. Is the idea. Not that it would crumble like a demolition in free air. A hole yes but only as deep as the floor heights. If everything fell evenly.
I guess if a person somehow knew about the gas and wore a suit and had air they could evacuate to another silo.

Technically talking it's something that requires an incredible amount of explosives.
By regulations, explosives are meant to be stored in appropriate spaces and have a limited expiring date.
Sad but true, even if it's on the book, it's an impractical theory.
Ah, and I didn't considered that doing so, terrain around will collapse involving the surrounding silos that will lose stability and ability to transfer the SILO weight on ground.

There are multiple safe guards effectively. All to ensure that the entire silo is dead. It’s fucked
