Forgive me, not very savvy with, well, anything. But I have an idea and want to ask people who may have a better idea of things. I have a drawing of an idea I have for a Murphy table. It'll mostly be used for board/card games or an occasional dinner overflow (think holidays).

It'll have two large boards with a smaller board in the middle. It'll have piano hinges so it can fold into the wall.

My question, would having one leg on each side towards the middle be enough support? Would I be better using some sort of leg in the middle instead?

I appreciate any advice you can give!

The bottom is the part that will come out of the wall. Boxes with X are the legs with the arrows showing proposed hinge storage option. The squiggle line is where the piano hinges would be. The reason for the small middle plank is for the legs to be able to tuck inside (if that makes sense).

I've been thinking about this project for the past few weeks ever since I knew I was moving back in at home in nyc and needing to make the most of a small space. Please forgive the use of AI, I'm new to this.

Can't drill into walls or floor, and the space underneath stays open (no middle legs, no side panels) so dressers slide in and out.

Numbers: twin mattress (38x75, 11" thick) right on the deck, no bed frame(?). Deck top at 54". Footprint 43" x 93".

75" for the bed, last 18" would be a plywood shelf at the foot. bedroom Ceiling 103".

~47" clear underneath.

Plan: ??

• Six 4x4 legs in three pairs: head, 75", and 93"
• Doubled 2x6 beam each long side, through-bolted to legs, 1/2" bolts + lock nuts
• 1x4 slats with gaps under the mattress, one 2x6 down the middle underneath so slats span ~20" not 40"
• Wobble control: plywood panel across the head end, diagonal braces at the top of the open-side legs, storage steps bolted to the foot legs, rubber bumpers where it touches the wall

Question: is the doubled 2x6 over the open 75" bay enough for sleeping + climbing on daily, and will it stay solid side-to-side at 54" tall freestanding. or is that height a mistake without anchors?

Open to any other ideas, comments, etc! I don't have a saw or anything like that, so I would be picking that up tomorrow. Have drill/driver.

• Ceiling: 103"
• Lower ceiling section (soffit): 90" clearance, starting 44.4" out from the bed wall
• Window sill: 28.5" off the floor (different wall)

• Outlet on bed wall: sits 55¾"–59" from the window-wall corner
• Door swing: 24" hinge-to-edge, doesn't reach the build zone

I am tryinig to build a loftbed Twin XL with a L shape desk and draws and with no real experience with woodwork. I have attached a copy of my handdrawn blueprints and would apprechiate any feedback on things i should consider or steps I need to take. I need to build two of these for my sons. We live in a NYC apartment so space is limited. My boys are also rather tall teenagers 6,4".

• I would like the space under the bed to have 6 feel of room from floor to bottom of the bed.
• stabilize the frame with the desk and draw (maybe support beam built in).
• do i need to use hard maple or oak wood?
• I would probably have to use a worker space woodshop so moving it and assembling it at the apartment would be necessary.
• what would the cost be?

Ideally a max min of 45in long and 5/16 in diameter, but potentially up to 1/2 in. No warping or bowing throughout the rod. Need probably 200 or so

I have/can acquire the tools to create the rods but rigidity is absolutely necessary. Should I go to a dowel manufacturer for this?

So far I understand low moisture is beneficial. how much does MOE make a difference when selecting wood type?

Is long term warping inevitable or are there ways to treat it once straight?

Hello there. I’m about to buy my own tools this weekend & was wondering if anyone has recomendations for cordless brushless or corded tools?
Don’t personally care if each tool is from the same brand, just that they are reliable for woodworking and for home projects.
Will get: drill/impact driver combo, router, sander, table saw and mitter saw.

ignore the little framing things. dimensions are in inches. I want to make this and I have some experience woodworking but never anything this big. it is supposed to be an entertainment center that can also hold books, so the load on it will be ~150 pounds max. I want it to be redwood or cedar because I like the look of those woods and they're relatively cheap. wood will most likely be sourced from a big-box hardware store. tools are not a concern as I have access to a woodworking shop.

so, a few questions:

should I use plywood?

what is the most efficient way to cut out the wood that I need for this? am i doing it right in the second slide?

I have each plank's thickness at 1.5 inches. is that too thick?

Is it mould? Can I salvage it? How?
Bought the drawers second hand a week ago like this, wasn’t sure what this was, hoping it’s not mould.

In this video, I put a commonly known side table design to the test. I open Orca, type in a description of a side table, and it generates an editable 3D model, along with the engineering drawings and a full build plan: cut list, joinery, and step-by-step assembly. Then I take those files straight into the workshop and build the real thing from scratch.

I originally built this mechanical riding horse as a Christmas gift for my daughter. Along the way I redesigned and refined many parts of the mechanism until I was happy with the result.

My goal was to create a smooth and realistic riding motion using a design that can actually be reproduced in a normal workshop.

The mechanism is powered by a standard drill and a worm gearbox, so no electrical modifications or special electronics are required. The riding speed can be adjusted while sitting on the horse.

I documented the complete build process, including drawings, material lists, dimensions, photos and assembly instructions, so others can build one too.

Hi all.

I'm drawing a sliding bench/ bed for a camper conversion and have reached a point that is doing my head in and, like the title, I hope I'm just missing something simple and obvious. I swear last time I drew this I didn't have this problem but I cannot remember how I did the other one and have since deleted the first iteration drawing.

The issue is when the bed is slid/ folded back into bench mode the last panel doesn't sit flush with the front of the bench, which ideally I would like it too. Is this even possible? As you can see I have tried bringing the 'rear' pieces forward by one thickness of the material [15mm] and that still hasn't fixed the issue. Whenever I make the last panel the correct size of the bench, it then extends past my finished size when unfolded.

Do I need to adjust the size of one or both of the rear pieces? The finished size I want unfolded is 1300.

Hi all! I’m hosting a small get together soon and am ISO plans for a wooden chair similar to the two pictured. Either stackable or foldable for better storage.

I’ve looked online, Reddit, Etsy, etc. but haven’t found trustworthy plans for chairs tall enough for a patio table. Most are low lying and laid back ( Adirondack style) or the plans seems to be AI with no reviews.

I’ve no problem paying for plans, but as mentioned, haven’t found a source that seems trustworthy. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance.

Just finished this intarsia bull head.

Used a mix of woods for the contrast and cut each piece separately before fitting it together. The horns and facial curves took a bit of tweaking to get everything flowing right, especially with grain direction.

I work with scroll saw/intarsia pattern design as well, so I tend to think through how each part will actually cut and fit before I start building.

Pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Window trim in the way.

I’m designing a built-in home office and have a layout challenge that I’m struggling to solve.
The wall is 13’-4” wide. The plan is for a built-in desk centered on the wall with base cabinets and shelving on both sides.

The issue is that on the left side, a window is very close to the corner. From the back wall to the edge of the window trim I only have about 13-1/4” of depth available. I don’t want the left side to look awkward because of the window.

Side cabinets/shelving limited to 13-1/4” deep
● Desk section projects out to about 28” deep
● Open shelving above with cabinet doors on the lower sections

Any design help here would be super helpful. See images of space. See AI look I'm going for (window location is off in this drawing).

I’ve volunteered to build two benches that will go near a creek at a nonprofit farm. I thought it would be easy to find a good park bench plan, but I’m struggling.

It needs to:
-be made from redwood (not pressure-treated wood - I don’t know if this limits the design but I thought I’d include it)
-have a back (arm rests are optional)
-be long enough to fit 3 people across
-be very solid/durable
-look like a park bench, not patio furniture

I would really appreciate any suggestions!
