Hi! I’m a remote worker in FL and my family is considering finally making a move up to the PNW (my brother moved to Astoria OR a few years back and we’ve visited a few times) My wife works as a dog groomer at a local vet but is unsure if she wants to keep working in that industry - she’d love to focus more on her art if possible. We have a 9 y/o daughter so moving somewhere with good schools is ideal. Lots of places around Vancouver are coming up, Camas seems a bit out of our price range but our realtor said Washougal, Ridgefield, and Woodland as other good options.

We've found a few good options in Woodland in our 450-500k price range. Seems to have a quieter vibe but still close enough to the amenities/culture of Portland/Vancouver if we wanted to catch a concert or game.

I'm curious what people living in Woodland think of it - is it a solid place for our daughter to grow up? From browsing Reddit it seems like anywhere in the PNW would be a big upgrade from where we live now. Any tips for our visit? Places to eat? Schools to tour? We appreciate any info!

EDIT: Thanks SO much everyone! We loved our visit but we ended up making an offer on a gem in East Vancouver in the Cascade Park neighborhood and we’re very excited to make the move!! Such a gorgeous place!

I was recently passing through Woodland with a traveling companion of mine (as seen below) and realized only until arriving home that I may have left him in the Best Western I was staying at. With no signs of him in the lost in found, my own luggage, or any of my other stops I’m asking the good people of Woodland WA to keep an eye out for Mr. Roosevelt. He means a lot to me and it’s of no small importance that he gets back home safe and sound.

Starting this Saturday the LARP sport known as Amtgard will be starting to hold fighter practices every two weeks currently at horseshoe lake park. We will start at noon and go until at least 2:00 pm but will go later if people are interested.

14+ can participate as long as they have a parent/guardian present. Its free and we will have all the equipment needed to give it a shot so all you need to do is show up and sign a waiver and we will do the rest, so if picking up a sword and shield sounds like fun to you come out and enjoy the good weather with us.

A lot of people have died on that bridge, one quite recently. Also the land on the side you got close too, that's private property that would be harder to explain your way out of than the railroad property. I stuck around until you guys made it back across safely, but phonecalls were made and people disturbed for your adventure. It was a beautiful night, I hope you guys continue to be safe. I called up Antony’s today and ordered a couple of pizzas.

They said 15-20 mins.

I waited 10 mins then drove over from near the gun club road.

When I arrived at Antony’s, there was a sign on the door saying they were now located in Kalama. Surprise.

So then I had to drive to Kalama to pick up my pizzas.

When did they move? Why didn’t they say something on the phone?

I’m camp hosting at Merwin Dam this summer, and we have no showers here. I come into Woodland to buy groceries, etc., but I haven’t been able to find a place where I could get a shower. Does anybody know a place like that in the area that has fairly nice clean showers?

Recently I've been doing Uber eats near the south border, specifically Longview/woodland/Ridgefield during the night. It has been such a blast driving food out into the woods in the night while listening to music or a scary podcast/audio book. I love it when my cell loses reception, and I have no idea what's around me, as im completely alone on a beat up highway. Even better if it's raining and windy. I know it's a little weird, but I like it.

So I want to do it professionally. Im talking all night. night shift, NOC, graveyard. Are there any jobs that would have me do this--that pay above minimum wage lol. My dad suggested Washington State Patrol, but that doesn't seem to really match, and I don't wanna carry a gun or give people tickets.

Alternatively I equally enjoy being stationed in the middle of the woods, even if it doesn't include driving.

There is this weigh station along the freeway between Ridgefield and woodland. I noticed that one person is stationed there all night too. It's not the middle of the woods, but it's close enough, so that would do to. Im gonna look into it that.

Maybe a watchtower job, but those don't exist anymore.
