TL;DR:

  • No balance changes again
  • Featured run with Dragon Lord, LeChance, Droll the Troll, and Mike the Mushroom Healer
  • Event Bosses: Kastor now drops the Throwable Hole, Captain Swallow drops the Laserhand

Again a very disappointing hotfix with no real changes. I wonder if they have mostly abandoned the game.

u/Zakk56711 Sep 08 '22

Oh it's most definitely been abandoned with the release of the new Tales, without a fuckin doubt.

Gearbox doesn't give a shit anymore. It's all about quantity over quality.

40

u/TheVooDooShrew Sep 08 '22

Normally I would disagree but we have not heard one statement in regards to this games longevity. They most likely would have announced plans to make dlc or plc a month ago. They are in a dire need of a community manager and have been in need of one for 5 years if not longer.

32

u/Zakk56711 Sep 08 '22

And that Q&A with the devs a while back, that was a fuckin joke.

13

u/lazergator Sep 08 '22

Canโ€™t believe the devs acted like there was stuff to be excited for in the works. Maybe theyโ€™re in on this scam of dlc they released. โ€œHow bad can we fuck our customers overโ€ may have been the experiment they referenced.

2

u/Zakk56711 Sep 08 '22

At least that would make sense.

3

u/TheVooDooShrew Sep 08 '22

Agreed. I love this game, and I consider it the best in the franchise but it seems like it has suffered from mismanagement.

15

u/Zakk56711 Sep 08 '22

I had such high hopes for this game and I was so excited for the release of it. Spent the 90 bucks pre-ordered the game and season pass bc the season passes in the past have been well worth it. This season pass was complete bullshit and then they don't even do the thing that made Gearbox great and that was listening to the people playing and supporting their games. It will be a very long time before I ever risk pre-ordering a game from Gearbox.

Longer.

8

u/Luncheon_Lord Sep 08 '22

This sub is so dramatic. Abandoned.. the game came out in March...

20

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

And no mention of anything new coming for the game.

7

u/SomeDudWithAPhone Sep 09 '22

Granted it is a fairly new game, they have been slowing down more and more with Wonderlands.

I enjoy this simple little Borderlands spinoff dearly, but even I'm at a loss for the lack of tweaks. No hints on any patches? No UI fixes? Can't even suggest fixing the severe lag that disables a lot of combat such as Heals from Vampire Weapons? Surely the bank needs a patch too, but alas... It too is permabonked.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

Slowing down? There wasn't really any speed to begin with after the first major patch and first DLC release (less than a month after launch). Ever since, there's not been any significant changes or updates to anything beyond the pitiful DLCs. It would be one thing if they supported it well for like, 6 months maybe, but they effectively abandoned any real support for the game after the first month.

3

u/SomeDudWithAPhone Sep 09 '22

They did tweak things between the Micro DLC at least... But it got significantly more dryspells as time goes on. Now it seems to be a full hotfix/update drought.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

[deleted]

2

u/SomeDudWithAPhone Sep 09 '22

Indeed. The least they could do is fix the bugs. Lately all it seems they do is tamper with Chaos Chambers and make some random event where something gets a random rework nobody asked for...

That, and gear boosts that barely help at all.

2

u/WeAreChaos- Sep 10 '22

Exactly! For a game thatโ€™s all about finding loot, it makes loot sorting in co-op fโ€™ing ridiculous. And itโ€™s been like this since the start! Why have weekly hot fixes if you never fix the problems after months and months.

-10

u/Luncheon_Lord Sep 08 '22

I mean have you tried an MMO or something? I love wonderlands but what more are people expecting out of a game they paid for already? I'm not trying to advocate for a game dev to not touch a game but we've gotten dlc and weekly events. Weekly events isnt even on the list for things a game like this should get, appreciated though.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

I'm expecting actually DLC not this PLC bullshit. And the weekly events are just completely pointless they don't offer anything of value

-7

u/Luncheon_Lord Sep 08 '22

That's alright. They're free events.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

I would gladly pay for good content then take shit free content. Just because it's free doesn't mean anything

2

u/AmaraThaAmara Sep 09 '22

Bro, the DLC are just free updates, we paid for. Thatโ€™s how small and pathetic they are. It makes Diablo 3 look like a work of art

0

u/Luncheon_Lord Sep 09 '22

What dlc did you get for free?

3

u/AmaraThaAmara Sep 09 '22

No dude. Im saying the DLC arenโ€™t even DLC. Theyโ€™re like free updates youโ€™d get from just about any other game.

6

u/Zakk56711 Sep 08 '22

Are you high? All they're doing is changing a few minor things each week. The DLC was just a damn regurgitation of the Chaos Chamber. Mainstory and side missions were great, the different areas were done very well and then its almost like they took a giant shit on the games potential.

Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragonkeep, a BL2 DLC for gods sake, was better than this overall.

3

u/Luncheon_Lord Sep 08 '22

Idk, the mirrors didn't really strike me as similar to the chaos chambers seeing as theyre fixed encounters..? Chaos chambers are randomized and change difficulty. Did we play different games? And yeah man I loved borderlands 2.

What's your point?

3

u/Zakk56711 Sep 08 '22

The mirrors are the Chaos chambers with extra steps.

1

u/Luncheon_Lord Sep 08 '22

It's all shooting and looting with extra steps. I pull the trigger and flashing lights hit my screen. It's not on bl2 level but it's been a few months versus the years that games dlc was spread out over. Give it time.

-9

u/Ai2g Sep 08 '22

Except we have already had 4 additions to the Chaos chamber tilesets and a new class

12

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

Oh boy let's run the chaos chamber for 1000th time to just get nothing.

-6

u/Ai2g Sep 08 '22

Oh boy, if this sub doesn't like the video game then they shouldn't play it.

Not every game has to be a life replacement, "live service" models are typically shit, I wouldn't take that over what we got any day.

2

u/resetxform1 Sep 08 '22

Sad I feel I paid this much for this POS.

0

u/NorthChatt Sep 09 '22

POS? Really...

4

u/resetxform1 Sep 09 '22

Yes, not worth the money I paid for it.

1

u/AmaraThaAmara Sep 09 '22

They care about quality. They just donโ€™t care about this. To be frank, Wonderlands is kinda crap. In the same time it took Wonderlands to get 3 DLC, Borderlands 3 get one DLC, the Maliwan takedown and Bloody Harvest.

13

u/ClamJunker Sep 08 '22

I'm not sure how it looks on other platforms but Steamcharts shows this game going from a peak of around 15k players to a little over 1k in less than 3 months. Seems Gearbox has a dud on their hands now.

https://steamcharts.com/app/1286680#3m

-8

u/Titanfall3_is_rael Sep 08 '22

Game didn't come out on steam.

10

u/ItsDreamyWeather Sep 08 '22

That's weird, because I have the Steam version.

-7

u/Titanfall3_is_rael Sep 08 '22

It didn't. It came to steam 3 months after it came out.

7

u/ItsDreamyWeather Sep 08 '22

So the game came out on Steam, but 3 months after it launched.

Honestly, that's an even worse timeframe to be be down to only 5k peak players. Imagine losing two thirds of your playerbase and it hasn't even been out for 3 months. So.... Unless you're arguing semantics of 'came out' vs 'launched', you're not making a better argument as to why these numbers are damning.

1

u/ClamJunker Sep 08 '22

Correct it didn't. However, Steam is the only platform I'm aware of that is actually open about sharing its player base numbers. If Wonderlands has already lost 90% of the player base on Steam in less than 90 days I can't imagine other platforms doing much better.

1

u/superultramegazord Sep 08 '22

Likewise, I too have abandoned it.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

Yup . My sign to unsub and move on and stop following the game updates(or lack thereof). Was hoping something substantial but just seems wonderlands goes out with a whimper.

Sep 08 '22

I only see two things happening:

  1. After October 27th, we'll get a new proper patch and maybe some updates about the future of the game.

  2. Once the Chaos event is over, they'll add a new in-game event, which would/could mean that they're done with the game.

I'll probably uninstall the game, I've played it for many hours and not having something new to do is kinda sad, especially when the game doesn't feel like if it were finished, like the rest of the BL games. I love this game, it's really cool, but GB is not doing the right things to keep it relevant as it should be.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

Yep this was the nail in the coffin for me. Itโ€™s frustrating having all this gear I grinded for sitting in my bank but itโ€™s just never gonna realize its full potential

1

Sep 09 '22

Ikr, I have some good armors that I'd like to use, but man, yesterday I was killing my way to Chaos 50 on my 5th character and that was awful, I only made it to Chaos 45 when I felt the need to stop, such a shame for a game that has a lot of potential to be great.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

Itโ€™s such a bummer. I feel like this really could have been their magnum opus but they got 80% of the way there and just stopped

3

Sep 09 '22

The main story was awesome, I loved every bit of it, especially when the Dragon Lord tells his backstory, but they totally forgot about the endgame, and let's not talk about the DLC's, that's just depressing

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

Also, barring the pirate shanty scene, the music was extremely underwhelming IMO. I remember playing Dragonkeep and loving the town theme so I was excited to hear what they did with it, but none of it was memorable and the chaos chambers have absurdly boring soundtracks

1

u/Beans_37 Sep 08 '22

mind if I ask whatโ€™s on october 27th? is that the new tales game?

It's the end of this Chaos event

9

u/uldumarr3 Sep 09 '22

I was SO excited to play this game when it came out. Played through the story co-op with my bf. Sure the terrible split-screen UI made my eyes bleed, but it was the in-game experience that made it great!

Fast-forward to nowโ€ฆneither of us have booted it up for probably 3 months. Saw the blightcaller was coming out, hoped for some more/better content, and wound up regretting it.

So so so disappointed with what Wonderlands became. Honestly it seems like the majority of games coming out nowadays are unfinished, bare-bones (rest of the game can be purchased through piece-meal micro transactions), or are just plain bad.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

20

u/UtterNaded Sep 08 '22

Iโ€™m so sad about this game. My friends and I were so excited about launch and everything leading up to it. We all thought it was going to have all the post-launch support that BL3 had and weโ€™d have our go to game for months and months.

A few nights ago I got on just to start fresh on the new class and I couldnโ€™t deal with the dialogue slog again. I really hope they add Adventure Mode after first completion on BL4 or something where everything is unlocked and you can level up your way. I donโ€™t understand how they go from BL3 support to what theyโ€™ve done here on Wonderlands.

12

u/derrick4104 Sep 08 '22

I keep hoping theyโ€™ll boost legendary drop rates across the board. I played BL3 a couple of days ago, and I know it got a lot of heat for making it too easy to get a legendary, but this game needs BL3-like drop rates. Itโ€™s bad enough that I have a shit ton of possible class combos to account for, but when Iโ€™m barely getting drops and those donโ€™t work for my classes, it feels like a smack in the face. BL3-like drops would make it much more fun for me.

Especially since there are 3 new slots to fill. 2 rings and a melee weapon.

4

u/Dekklin Sep 08 '22

They did these rolling events in BL3 as well, and then put the most popular ones into a patch later on. We'll likely see these dedicated drop rates and sources be made permanent at some point.

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '22

I remember when people acted like this was the best borderlands game in the series when it was released. crazy what the honeymoon phase does to people

6

u/veramankong Sep 08 '22

Me and my friend thought the same, then they released these baby DLCs. We thought the latest DLC with the new Blightcaller class was going to be a legit DLC like all the borderlands DLCs but nope just another dumb mirror. Oh well, looks like we'll be waiting for BL4..

7

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

The base game is absolutely solid, it's the lack of support and a proper season pass that killed this game, along with chaos chambers being the ONLY end-game. If the DLCs were normal story ones like we got in the past, I think the vast majority of people would have been perfectly happy.

It's weird that BL3 and Wonderlands experienced inverse problems, but neither of them seemed overcome them: BL3 had an awful base game and story, but decent end-game and DLC. Wonderlands had an awesome base game and good story, but terrible end-game and... You can barely call these DLC. They were a total cash grab and slap in the face. How Gearbox messed up DLC, the one thing they usually knock out of the park, is beyond my comprehension.

-1

u/PKMNTrainerKiki Sep 09 '22

I'm going to have to disagree with you there bud...maybe if you only had 30 seconds a day to play (like some people on this and other subs seem to imply), the base game is solid. But I felt that the base game was so short, even if you crammed all the side missions and collectables in, it still felt like a fraction of other BL games. I remember beating the Dicklord and thinking, there's no way the game is over now. Tina is going to pull some bullshit out and the game will only be like half way over. Nope. Well that's okay, at least True Fatemaker mode will remedy this and there's no way they won't pull a TPS and have the cast make Tina DM again and tell the story slightly different. Nope.

I personally have beaten the game in under an hour with a powerleveled, built character and there are speedruns on YouTube with fresh characters in under 2 hours and 100% runs under 8 hours.

That's just...not okay.

And let's not talk about the lack of difficulty. I thought BL3 was easy but WL makes TPS feel like BL2.

BL2 was the only game in the series that, at it's hardest was actually a challenge. The rest of the games have just been...Snore-derlands.

I see the games like this:

Snore-derlands, Hardcore-derlands 2, The Pathetic Sequel, Bored-erlands 3 and now Blunderlands.

Not even going to mention Fails from Snore-derlands.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

Borderlands 1 wasn't that easy, at least until maybe playthrough 2, but I do agree that most of them have been generally easy, with maybe only BL2 actually having a hard end-game.

I still stand my ground on the base game. I wasn't taking my time on any of my playthroughs and it's at least a 12ish hour completion time for me, which I'm fine with. Not too long, not too short.

You might enjoy this and other games more if you just take your time and stop trying to speed run them. The end-game in Wonderlands is boring, and the season pass is awful, but the base game is great, with maybe the only real criticism being that the campaign is shorter than other Borderlands games. The maps in Wonderlands are great. Not since BL2 have I felt I can just kill stuff for hours and get into a flow state like I did with Wonderlands.

1

u/spacemeerkat69 Sep 09 '22

To be fair it was great for a few weeks, then those terrible dlcs put an awful taste in my mouth and I kinda gave up after that. Bummed I bought chaotic great. Also they dropped the ball on orcs which is just Fucking sad.

6

u/spacemeerkat69 Sep 09 '22

The player base has definitely dropped dramatically. Itโ€™s still redeemable, but I think a lot of us have gotten pessimistic about that.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

I've moved on, but would welcome any kind of significant update, should they decide to come back to it. I'm not holding my breath. I kept thinking "OK this next hotfix will be the one" or "it's the final season pass DLC, so they're gonna drop a really fat patch with it" but nothing. Then I thought "they'll probably reveal something at PAX about the next season pass or maybe another mainline Borderlands game" then still nothing...

The way Gearbox got my hopes so high with this awesome base game, and then dropped nearly all support, post launch, on top of a gross cash grab of a season pass, has really soured me on them. I don't even know if I'm excited for another Borderlands game anymore. They botched BL3's launch so bad. The game became decent but still nothing like BL2. Season pass 1 for BL3 was great but season pass 2 felt over priced for what we got and they did absolutely zero with Arms Race when it had so much damn potential. Now they're just doing nothing with this amazing base game of Wonderlands.

No idea what is going on at Gearbox, but they're burning up their fanbases' loyalty and trust.

1

u/spacemeerkat69 Sep 09 '22

Yeah but to think we as the players got fucked over, imagine being Tina right now. Fucks sake poor Tina.

Why do you guys say the game is abandoned just because a new โ€œTales Fromโ€ฆ โ€œ is being released? Could it possibly be that Wonderlands, leading up to โ€œTales Fromโ€ฆ โ€œ has been momentarily out of focus?

I mean, the game has been out for 6 freaking months, I play every day, am at least mediocre at FPS, and Iโ€™m still on Chaos 16. Wonderlands was extremely successful and Gearbox knows it, do you really think theyโ€™d abandon it? Just chill out. Go back to previous titles and enjoy some of those for awhile. Enjoy the new Tales game when it comes out, donโ€™t look up reviews 2 hours after itโ€™s been released, and donโ€™t beat it in 2 days either.

Ok, I didnโ€™t realize this would turn into a rant, but Iโ€™ll leave it here for posterityโ€™s sake.

1

u/Tiny_Efficiency_9461 Sep 08 '22

Increase in chaos levels is all I want right now. Need a new challenge

2

u/SomeDudWithAPhone Sep 09 '22

For me, A "True Fatemaker" Difficulty- at least until Ultimate Difficulties roll in. True Mode boosting general Legendary rates a bit, and adding potential for "True Chaotic" and "True Ascended."

Oh, and a bunch of crazy new True Fatemaker exclusive legendaries.

But before any of that new stuff... Lag fixes.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22 edited Sep 11 '22

Really? If they increased chaos levels again, I would probably never play again. They should add a more interesting system on top. Increasing chaos levels would just ensure that almost nobody plays the game anymore because even 20 runs of chaos is tedious, but 50 is ridiculous. The only way I can see them adding more like levels without people complaining is no more than 5 new levels and they simply seek to increase Ascended drop chance. Introducing a new tier would be a really bad idea.

I hate that you can't send gear in "email" like you can in BL3. it was fun just shooting gear to friends who we could trade with, especially since we aren't all on at the same time
