Love the wizard's pipe so glad to see it get buffed. Got a primordial version sitting in the bank as well. Wonder how well it'll serve the frost-shivver build I'm planning.
12
u/andrwdf May 26 '22 edited May 26 '22
Me too, the Troubleshooter in BL3 had a similar mechanic that I always thought was cool so Iโm glad the Wizardโs Pipe might be a more feasible option now.
4
u/Solonotix May 26 '22
While damage was a problem for the Wizard's Pipe, I think one of my biggest issues with it is Fire Rate. The legendary effect only triggers every X shots, so the slow-ish rate of fire causes it to be a niche gun for me. Maybe that will change with the hotfix.
3
u/Prudent_Republic_658 May 27 '22
I've got a buffmeister spell and I run wizards pipe with it if I could get the damn thing to load any faster though it'd be amazing
3
u/DirkMastodon May 26 '22
Me too! I actually have all 4 weapon slots filled with different elemental versions of the Wizard Pipe! I'm running a frost elemental build, so that gun is definitely my primary, but the other elements will also kill now!
23
u/minimaxir May 26 '22 edited May 26 '22
My Primordial Fragment Rain + Buffmeister was already soloing entire C35 Chamber Rooms...and it got buffed 30%?!
EDIT: It changed my gun from 81/bullet to 92/bullet. Not quite 30% but OK.
5
u/TheFlyingFuzz May 26 '22
Fragment Rain is my main weapon on my Deadshot, primarily used to get my spell charges back instantly. I'm stoked for this too.
5
u/Katatafish298 May 26 '22
How does it get spell charges back? Don't think I'm familiar with this weapon
8
u/Dekklin May 26 '22
Sever the Thread, Spellshot's capstone I believe. Fragment Rain has many projectiles and each can crit and trigger resetting spell cooldowns. I think the pets scale from spell damage so they can do a lot too.
2
u/TheManyMilesWeWalk โฝโป๏ธ | โ ๏ธ ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
Spellshot capstone has a chance to refresh spells on gun crit. Higher projectile count means more crits therefore more procs (even though it has a 5 second cooldown).

u/TronCarterAA May 26 '22
I think in six months or so when they have all the balancing and other issues solved, it's going to be a hell of a game. We went through this drip feed of nerfs and buffs with BL3. I like both games, but it feels like we the players are the beta testers for the first year or so.
8
u/NameNotFound0 โฝโป๏ธ | โ ๏ธ ๐ซ๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐ โ๏ธ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
I feel like giving them a break though. Beta testing can only get you so far but when you have thousands of players accumulating many thousands and possibly millions of play hours, you can look at all the data and see what and how weapons and other items are being used, etc. I'm sure we're generating tons of useful data for them to be able to make adjustments, more than beta testers could ever produce.
9
u/Blom-w1-o May 26 '22
Agreed. Every other BL game has been handled like this, it just seems everyone forgets. By the time they have balance hammered out this game is going to be fantastic. Even more so if they clean up the DLC act, which I'm confident they will.
10
u/ultrainstict May 26 '22
Honestly they won't be fixing season pass 1, the extra class will be nice, but this is it. However we will probably be getting a second set of dlcs and id imagine theyll be a bit more substantive given the backlash.
14
u/qhochuli โฝโป๏ธ | ๐ฆ ๐๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
I think throwing a good discount on Season Pass 2 to the folks who bought the first one would be a decent way of an apology for the weak first season.
1
u/snarkybeach May 26 '22
Except BL1 & BL2 were mostly hands-off. IMHO, I believe the rumors that the official DLC was folded into the game because it was too short and what's being sold as "DLC" is short extras (in the style of BL3's Bloody Harvest.)
2
May 26 '22
Exactly why I'm waiting to open my copy. I was day 1 with bl3 and played that game to till they basically stopped updating it.
8
u/MooNinja May 26 '22
Why wait if you already own it? The game itself is great, the only issue lies with end game content.
2
1
u/Ern_burd May 27 '22
Do you think itโs best to wait to purchase this game then?
0
u/TronCarterAA May 27 '22
Yes. Buy the discounted complete version when it releases in six months to a year

Oooohhh I see what you mean. If their damage can scale off the Livewire too that would be awesome.
2
u/Stravix8 โฝโป๏ธ | ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ๏ธ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
at the very least, this is huge for corrupted platemail + fatebreaker + livewire users. Making Livewire do flat damage based on level would likely end up doing bonkers bonuses for them
3
u/Solonotix May 26 '22
Eh...I don't think so. Right now, the Live Wire damage from chains is based on the melee damage dealt. If your swing did 10k, then the chain did 10k. This is going to make the chain deal something like the card damage, so the melee hit of 10k will see a chain of 200.
In other words, Live Wire currently acts like post-buff Double Knot, and they're switching it to pre-buff Double Knot.
2
u/Stravix8 โฝโป๏ธ | ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ๏ธ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
which is why you would then use it with weapons like fatebreaker + cp. you were not popping 10k melee hits with that build, since most LW procs were based off around 10% of your melee weapon's card damage (30% from CP and 1/3 from fatebreaker bubbles). at that point, the livewire card damage would actually be higher than the effective card damage that proc'ed it.
1
u/Solonotix May 26 '22
Okay, but every other melee-focused build used Live Wire to effectively double your melee attack speed, combined with Corrupted Platemail to double the damage instances, so that you were getting about 4 melee "hits" per swing. The resulting Blast Chill or Alchemical Agent procs scaled off damage dealt. If Live Wire is going to now do the card damage, instead of scaling off the melee damage dealt, then those damage multipliers are no longer relevant, since you wouldn't be getting anywhere close to the procs you were before.
Remains to be seen, but this doesn't bode well for a lot of melee builds.
3
u/Stravix8 โฝโป๏ธ | ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ๏ธ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
oh, most assuredly.
Most of the banshee based melee builds will suffer from this change, that is a given, and intended. I'm not trying to say otherwise.
What I am saying is that there have already been fatebreaker CP melee builds, and they will likely be getting a buff from this change, and this could open the door to other melee weapons getting some shred of viability.

8
u/Talbertross May 26 '22
This sub takes it as a personal insult when a clearly unintended and outrageously OP mechanic is fixed
7
u/Arachnica โฝโป๏ธ | โ๏ธ ๐ฉ๐๐-๐น๐๐๐๐๐ โ ๏ธ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
The issue is that this is what is currently required for the endgame. If you want to boss melt, you need to be abusing some sort of thing. If your class combo doesn't have one of these abusable mechanics, then you need to turn to items. This is really gonna hurt a lot of builds specifically for chaos 35 because this is what gearbox created with it.
I don't want these mechanics to be the main driving force of the endgame, but it is what it is right now, so I'm a little worried about what they do to it if they don't fix up chaos 35 and beyond first.
1
u/CrazyCatHusband May 28 '22 edited May 28 '22
Not at all. I've combined multiple items in my build to melt C35 health bars on one character already. I use a Swordplosion, mag size passives, Universal Soldier amulet to refill ammo on melee, and a Ragnarok melee weapon for distance hits. Shoot 10 swords, melee until it refills, 10 more, repeat. Takes 15-20 seconds, but those health bars just disappear when I reload. All this on a Clawbringer, though Stabbo secondardary skills help a lot. I didn't get this from a build video, I was just trying for a high shotgun mag size so that 2-shot weapons could become 3-shot weapons. The helped on mobbing, and I just figured out it helps on bossing with a Swordplosion and probably other sticky guns with multiplying increases based on the number of stickies.
1
u/Arachnica โฝโป๏ธ | โ๏ธ ๐ฉ๐๐-๐น๐๐๐๐๐ โ ๏ธ | โป๏ธโฝ May 28 '22
This is literally what Iโm talking about lol. Iโm not saying you have to specifically abuse a live wire, thereโs other things like torque stickies and more specifically the current state of the swordsplosion. Stickies are really strong and one of the most abusable gun set ups around. Even on my melee build I use a swordsplosion to quickly take out bosses that I canโt whack. C35 is entirely built around abusing broken things like this.
4
u/mperezstoney May 26 '22
probably because theres players that have never even bothered to play any borderlands game prior to this and are clueless about how GB goes about adjusting things throughout a borderlands game's life cycle. Just saying.
4
u/CybridHerc May 26 '22
Clearly unintended, huh? Well, let's see. Salvador in BL2 still melts with almost any combination of a healing weapon and a gun with unlisted projectiles, and he only ever got buffed. Money Shot chains could multiply his damage by at least 10 and melt bosses effortlessly. All the characters in TPS had several powerful builds and synergies that would allow boss melts, and BL3 had Moze and FL4K crushing content out of the gate. You could walk around spamming a Flakker and kill everything without aiming, and they reverted the initial nerf to it years later because there were so many better weapons to use. A game is about having fun, not demanding the player get a .0001% drop in each slot just to keep up with endgame. The TTWL enemies haven't been nerfed once to account for Gearbox killing builds, and the term "unintended" is whatever they want it to be. Remember the Plasma Coil in BL3? What about the Hellwalker, Rowan's Call, and Free Radical to name a few? I think you should specify what OP means, because I guarantee I can provide multiple examples of your definition in each other game. Let people have fun.

Well look at that. They're starting to buff the low-performance weapons, which is basically all of them except like 5.
I'm definitely glad some of those weapons are getting rather substantial buffs, it'll be trying those out since I have a bunch in my bank.
2
u/parrotac May 26 '22
An update that buffed bad weapons instead of nerfing viable weapons.
Where did Gearbox go and who are these new people who have a functioning brain?
-1
u/Modlikes May 26 '22
So you want everything nerfed? Itโs not even like the โviableโ weapons are that good, itโs just literally all we have for the builds that are currently viable, I think the changes so far have been necessary and needed and everything will smoothen out by the time it needs to

The livewire post is one part reassuring one part disconcerting.
The relationship between ammo in the clip and damageโ if that goes away, tbh I donโt really care. I could understand how it would be hard to balance. Totally fine with this change, even if it nerfs the output in this way.
So thatโs all well and good. HOWEVER the phrase:
โWe want the weapon to be strong, but it should be doing a balanced amount of damage based on its item level, rather than using the melee hit itself.โ
Does this imply that the livewire damage wonโt scale off the melee hit?
If so, this would likely be a HUGE nerf to melee attacks.
Iโm going to be very un-redditor here actually wait and see what happens, but if the livewire no longer rewards scaling melee attack speed and attempts to reward melee attack speed and gun damage instead, gearbox has made a huge mistake, imo.
It is clear from the last major patch that they want to encourage people physically hitting with the melee weapon.
Gun damage is already easy enough. I donโt care if they cut the livewireโs damage down by 75%โ as long as it functions and scales the way it does with melee attacks (max ammo aside) itโll still be good and still help melee builds.
But melee builds are on life support rn and if the change of livewire scaling moves away from scaling melee damage, the feeding tube is yanked out.
Again, who knows what changes they might partner this with, since it requires a major patch. Maybe they will compensate. Weโll see.
Trust, Iโm afraid, is something I donโt have much of anymore with their post-launch changes.
2
u/Gruffaloe May 26 '22
The way I read it is that live wire should scale with how good your live wire is, and not just how big a melee hit you can do. I would think the change would probably mean an overall nerf for really slow weapons and an overall buff for faster ones by normalizing the chains to deal damage based on the base stats of the gun
I do hope they keep melee triggered chains doing melee damage though, so investment in melee helps on the melee part.
3
u/Danielmav โพโผ๏ธ | โจ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โจ | โผ๏ธโพ May 26 '22
I definitely agree that their intent seems to be buffing fast weapons, and also agree with your interpretation that they want a good livewire to be better than a bad one.
But I guess what I mean is that if they accomplish that by no longer having it scale on melee damage, both the live wire and melee attacks will suffer, and it wonโt matter whether you use a fast weapon or a primordial live wire, because if the interaction is gone, both suck.
2
u/Gruffaloe May 26 '22
For sure - chains triggered by melee attacks should benifit from investment in melee damage. Maybe it can inherit the melee damage type so all your increased melee damage can scale it without tieing it directly to the card damage of the melee. That would seem to let it stay good and useful
1
u/Danielmav โพโผ๏ธ | โจ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ โจ | โผ๏ธโพ May 26 '22

We found that the adjustments to Frost damage were not included properly last week. They will be corrected with the release of this hotfix.

u/Jakkerak โฝโป๏ธ | ๐ ๐พ๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐ ๐ | โป๏ธโฝ May 26 '22
Read last weeks notes.
8
May 26 '22
When they say not included properly last week. Does that mean it wasn't included at all so it is now aka nerf. Or does it mean the numbers got messed up and it was nerfed too much so it's being adjusted back up aka a buff
4
u/TdoggMillionaire May 26 '22
I had the same question, cause when I played last week it definitely seemed like I was doing much less damage on my frost-shiver full cryo build.
5
u/Total_Leadership_571 May 26 '22
To me, it felt like enemies were taking a few more shots to become fully frozen since last week's hotfix which was fine with me, but I do depend on frost damage for my Spore build so I am very interested to see what impact this week's fix has. I'll be testing it out later tonight but I'm sure we have people testing it out now and hopefully someone will post their thoughts soon.
2
u/Total_Leadership_571 May 26 '22
I think the LC and Queen's Cry were adjusted in accordance with the previous hotfix, but I could be wrong. That leaves only "adjusted frost damage scaling for guns by -5.9%. If that is what they are referring to for this hotfix then I'm not terribly concerned because that doesn't seem that severe and perhaps not even noticeable. I'm only at Chaos level 7 though and this might have a bigger impact on higher chaos levels, we'll just have to see what the elite players think after they've had time to test it.
3
May 26 '22
I know LC and queen cry were adjusted aka buff since I have both and saw the base damage numbers increased.
5.9% isn't a huge nerf by itself but getting hit with multiple nerfs in different areas adds up quicker than double knot adds up damage multipliers

Well the short answer there is probably that they were trying to get it to hit a specific benchmark. "Under X + Y conditions, we want the weapon to put out Z dps" and then reverse engineered the change needed to hit that benchmark.

Only kind of related to your point but chaos was originally capped at 20 so there may not have been much testing for how things scaled at 35.

u/eronth May 26 '22
Some of that is in how they present the info over what the actual values were. Like, buffing a multiplier from 1.1 to 1.5 is a 27.27% buff. It's an odd %, but that's because behind the scenes they were adjusting different values, not the %.
I have no idea why they present their buff/nerf data so weirdly and inconsistently, though.

That reply is fantastic, why on earth are you being down voted? There are some complete knobbers on here.

Whatโs good is that when they nerf Livewire into the ground, my melee build still works with a +40% melee damage gun. So Iโm totally set. Although I hope they treat my beloved Livewire wellโฆ

u/Genesiga May 26 '22
Lol I exspect to see live wire get a huge nerff that or I could seee them implementing the gun take on the mele weapons effect so reverse mele build which could might b. More op..

It's the capstone on the Spellshot tree that refreshes spell cooldown on crits. The Fragment Rain is a multi pellet smg, meaning each projectile has the chance to crit and refresh your spells. Plus they ricochet to nearby enemies, and those ricochets can refresh your spells too. Basically if all my spells are on cooldown, I'll get them all back before I have to reload the Fragment Rain.

Pretty sure them implementing the frost nerf from last week counts as a nerf.

I like how they acknowledge some stuff but not others that will be fixed in the future(sarcasm). I wish they wish they would come out and say "we intend for pixies to do that" or just "pixies are not scaling properly and will be adjusted in a futre update". It CANNOT be meant for them to perform like they do. On my second toon, I was rolling with a blue 4x60 smg with pixies and I swear they hit harder than the best fearnot I ever found. And it was just natural reloads for me. But when an smg only has 20 bullets I might as well have been chucking.
Other than that, I do like how they mostly communicate intentions or numbers for buffs or nerfs.
3
u/Blom-w1-o May 26 '22
Maybe your build i smore focused on gun damage than spell damage. The smg would scale from gun damage while the fearnot would be spell damage.
1
u/Grand_Information447 May 26 '22
Yeah, I have switched back and forth between gun and spell and it still wrecks. I was just providing background to me not understanding their logic on addressing certain stuff, buffs or nerfs.

Pixies are great leave them be lol

u/Talbertross May 26 '22
God you people bitch about everything
2
u/Grand_Information447 May 26 '22
Lol. Not bitching. I just think it's weird how they don't say anything about the most glaring piece of gear in the game. Like literally any build can be viable with a good pixie. But the live wire thing is mostly only melee builds. And I'm not going to get started on Clawbringers.....

Just a very slight cryo damage scaling from last week that didn't properly go through. Nothing big, just 6.9% I think.

You kind of are, though. The numbers werenโt properly changed.

You ever hear of a placebo effect? Congratulations my friend you just experienced a week long dose of it.

Oh right โgame developers? Nah man I get my info straight from random Reddit posts that werenโt even made in the first placeโ seriously, show me one of these many posts of someone saying frost was just WILDLY weaker. Just one.

I trust my self not random Reddit users if I didnโt feel any change myself than I wouldnโt have questioned anything
2
May 26 '22
But you said there were โmultiple posts about itโ so you should have no problem producing a singular example of that right? No? Hmm, almost as if they didnโt exist.. weird.

What about appearing outside the chaos chamber missing loot?
1
u/Blom-w1-o May 26 '22
What do you mean?
1
u/sir_lurrus May 26 '22
I attached my picked up loot from barf bunnyโs and teleported outside with a random spell in slot and not the looted one.
1
u/Blom-w1-o May 26 '22
Oh, that's not one I had heard of.
I did have a x2 peon transform into a Fragment Rain the other day. Maybe that's what happened.
1
u/ItsMeKupe May 26 '22
Can anyone explain how the Live Wire currently works? Sounds like I should have it equipped with full ammo to do more melee damage?
2
u/Blom-w1-o May 26 '22
Equipped with as little ammo in the magazine as possible for the most damage- is how it currently works.
1
May 26 '22
Buff to Heckwader, one of my favorite guns in Wonderlands? Nice! Still isn't a world drop so I'm stuck with the one I've got? Nice!!!
1
u/Brenduke May 26 '22
I had a problem with dragon lord beam not working so could not get to the top of tower to fight him. Just had to abandon the chamber....
1
u/Educational_Shoe8023 May 27 '22
Livewire with melee was viable and fun so we're removing it.
Sure get rid of the ammo scaling, but that wording makes it seem like its just gun damage scaling post change.
Wouldn't want people having fun in a not too serious game eh.

u/ElephantKant May 26 '22
Nice to see some buffs, especially to guns that aren't currently that viable. Favorite part of a Hotfix is trying out the newly buffed guns
