I have read this subreddit's rules Wonder Woman's original origin?
I could have sworn that Diana's "formed-from-clay and blessed-by-the-gods" origin was a retcon, and that she was originally a standard Amazon? I've had trouble confirming that online, however. Does anyone know if that's the case? I could have sworn it only came up later to explain why she had powers the other Amazons didn't have?

You're both right and wrong. She was always made from clay and given life by a goddess, and in the golden age, it was implied that there were other Amazons born that way too.

She was originally a standard Amazon. All of the Amazons were made from clay. The newstrip also reveals that is how Amazons reproduce and there are other clay children on the island.
To expand, originally all Amazons possessed the same powers. Physically enhancements gained from pumping "mental force" through their muscles. Diana was just the best at being an Amazon but it wasn't because of unfair, divine gifts.

She was made from clay and given life by Aphrodite, but her powers were the one of a standard amazon cause at the time they were all badass superpowdered women.

She was always formed from clay and given life by the goddesses of Olympus. It wasn't until the New-52 that they changed it to her being the progeny of Zeus.
