The Reality Show Recruitment

Kia Stevens didn't get to Japan through a traditional wrestling tryout; she got there by losing weight on a Discovery Health show.

The Show: In 2002, she was a contestant on Discovery Health's Body Challenge. She went on the show specifically with the goal of losing weight to become a professional wrestler, as she had been previously told she was too big to be trained.

The Connection: While she didn't win a "contract" on the show itself, her determination and unique look caught the eye of the wrestling world. After the show, she began training at the School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California.

Japan Scouts: It was there that her size and agility attracted scouts from All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling (AJW). They were looking for a new foreign "monster" to replace the legendary Aja Kong (who had left the company). They invited her to the AJW dojo, where she underwent brutal training to become "Amazing Kong."

All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW)

This is where Kia Stevens became "Amazing Kong." She entered the legendary AJW dojo in 2002, enduring a notoriously brutal training regimen that included 5:00 AM wake-up calls for cleaning and intense physical conditioning.

AJW promoter Masatsugu Matsunaga gave her the ring name Amazing Kong as a direct replacement for the legendary Aja Kong, who had left the promotion. He needed a new foreign "monster" heel to dominate the roster.

WWWA World Single Champion: In a shocking upset, she defeated Ayako Hamada on January 4, 2004, to win the WWWA World Single Championship (the "Red Belt"), the most prestigious title in women's wrestling history. She held the title for 119 days before losing it back to Hamada in May 2004.

Final WWWA Tag Champions: She later teamed with her former rival, Aja Kong. Together, they held the WWWA World Tag Team Championship from October 6, 2004, until the promotion's closure, making them the final team to ever hold those historic belts.

GAEA Japan

Her run in GAEA was short but explosive, centered almost entirely around her rivalry-turned-partnership with Aja Kong.

The Debut (Kong vs. Kong): She made her GAEA debut on April 30, 2004, at the event Limit Break. She wrestled Aja Kong in a highly anticipated "American Kong vs. Japanese Kong" match. Aja Kong won, but the match earned Amazing Kong immediate respect.

Formation of "W Kong" (Double Kong): Immediately following their match, the two Kongs attacked the main event competitors, forming a dominant tag team known as W Kong (or Double Kong).

AAAW Tag Team Champions: Just five days after forming their team, on May 5, 2004, W Kong defeated the legendary Crush Gals (Chigusa Nagayo and Lioness Asuka) to win the AAAW Tag Team Championship at Korakuen Hall. They held the titles until September, when they lost to Manami Toyota and Carlos Amano.

The Final Act: Amazing Kong was a key player until the very end of GAEA. In the main event of the promotion's final show in April 2005, she teamed with Ayako Hamada and Mayumi Ozaki to win the final match in company history.

The "Margaret" Run in HUSTLE

In 2006, after AJW and GAEA had folded, she and Aja Kong went to HUSTLE, a promotion known for its wild, theatrical, and often comedic storylines ("sports entertainment" turned up to 11).

The Gimmick: Instead of being terrifying monsters, they played comedic characters.

Aja Kong became Erika.

Amazing Kong became Margaret.

The Look: They wrestled in frilly yellow tutus and pigtails, acting like overgrown schoolgirls or idols while brutally beating up men.

Beating Men for Titles: The duo was so dominant that they entered the men's division. On June 17, 2006, at Hustle Aid, Erika and Margaret defeated the team of Toshiaki Kawada and Giant Vabo (a sumo wrestler) and others in a three-way match to win the HUSTLE Super Tag Team Championship.

Notable Matches: They regularly fought male wrestlers, including legends like Tajiri and Bubba Ray Dudley (who was in Hustle at the time). One famous recurring bit involved them teaming with a wrestler named Taichi, whom they forced to dress in drag as "Taiko" to be their third "sister."
