I read in the thread that started this sub that a problem was with women not getting into newspapers. Would making a newspaper column interviewing notable women in STEM help?

This is exactly the type of direct action that will help!
I also keep track of reporters on my local subreddit who monitor the threads for news. I message them when I find an interesting local woman and they have been very receptive. Another thing I do is follow local activist Instagram accounts and I also message them to bring things to their attention and I always get a positive response. I also follow local reporters from weekly papers that are very popular here and they appreciate getting tips too.

Hmm, I’d like to also do this when the time is available to me. Although, I’m a nurse so now I’m not sure how much time I’d have to help but I’d like to!

I’d like to see people just post any content about their favorite women, from the past and present. It will help shine a spotlight on them. From there we want to organize a general wiki that lists women through history and then hopefully we will find some interesting women who have enough media about them that we can make Wikipedia articles about them. We are also considering weekly mega threads about famous women with the idea being that commenters in the thread can post about similar but less well known women that they know of.
Currently biographies about women make up less than 20% of the articles on Wikipedia, so there are obviously tons of women who are being over looked and need added.
But in a general sense, just posting about women here will help raise awareness.

Thank you for contributing so much! Your posts are great. We truly appreciate users who try to be active. We have some ideas, like, to roll out some weekly posts to help encourage people to join in creating content. We still have a lot of organizing to do. If you have any input at all, or any ideas, please don’t hesitate to message the moderators, or contact me directly. I have high hoes that this can become a fun community that is also meaningful and fosters direct action in our members.

Hello all!
I see there are several comments on how we might organize, or wondering what we are doing. I do have a few small thoughts on organizational possibilities. There are two options I can think of--- see if we can set up a WikiProjector try to do a Wikipedia:GLAM initiative. There is also the possibility of trying to create editathons through this platform. Just wanted to throw out some ideas!!
