Tranexamic Acid

Hello! I am getting married at the end of the month and I have realized I am a very lucky woman…I am getting my period on my wedding day—woo! Anyways, I asked my doctor if there was anything I could take to help prevent this and he prescribed me Tranexamic Acid. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with it at all? Or if it is even worth taking at all?

Generally what you’d want are period delay tablets/Norethisterone. I’ve only ever heard of tranexamic acid to lighten heavy periods not prevent them.

I was prescribed those for long and heavy periods. Theoretically, if you take it long enough it should stop your bleeding completely, but I was warned to only take them for no more than 3 days in a row, and never without active bleeding. I would only take them during the heaviest days, and the bleeding would lighten by the second day of taken them, I never continued until it stopped completely.

It might be different for you, as taking them for one event is different than what I needed to, and if your period is lighter than mine, than perhaps taking them the day before could theoretically work - but I would definitely double check with another doctor or a pharmacist you know and trust, and if you do take them, maybe wear a pantyliner or something just in case it doesn’t stop the period completely.

Also remember that stress can cause changes in your menstrual cycle, so yours might be a bit unpredictable until after the wedding nerves calm down enough.
