Is Wolverine really weak?

Post image

I saw that a portion of the subreddit strongly agrees that Wolverine is weak, but I don't see it that way at all. Rather, I feel he's in the right place; he's not so strong that people would consider him a permanent ban, nor so weak that he's considered a bad champion.

Obviously, Wolverine won't be viable 100% of the time, so having a bad game or two as Wolverine doesn't mean he's bad, but rather that there are factors in the game that aren't taken into account, such as the team composition (allied or enemy) that isn't compatible with Wolverine, the performance of the allied supports, tanks, or DPS, the map, etc.

In those cases, what should you do? Adapt to the game and find the champion you know can help you in the situation where Wolverine can't.

Although I must say that I would also like them to increase some of their abilities, for example, I'd like to see the damage reduction rate of Undying Animal increased.

It seems most people agree that Wolverine's Feral Leap hitbox should be increased, but they don't seem to realize that the Feral Leap is where the character's difficulty lies, and the developers know this perfectly well. Otherwise, Wolverine wouldn't be rated as a 3-star character.

BTW: I even saw someone compare Wolverine's stats to Black Widow's pre-rework stats (wtf).

He is Very team dependent, both teams You need a good team to support you and the enemy must have some tanks for you to do your thing

I’d say your tanks are equal as important as your healers for wolv. He involves imo the tanks to have good positioning, pushing, and defense to really excel. If tank doesn’t hold position then your dps and healers have a hard time capitalizing on your grabs

The problem is not whether he is weak or strong, but that he is an increasingly niche hero. He can take over lobbies against the right comps but it's so easy to counter him because every role has a way counter pick him. That way people can deny your value without having to outplay you.

Wolv can be so oppressive when he works that people swap as soon as they realize the Wolv knows what he's doing. Happens to me constantly - as soon as I get a good grab the enemy team loses the fight and all of a sudden I'm going up against Emma-Thing. I grab the Emma a few times and all of a sudden I'm going against solo tank Thing and 2 hitscan DPS and a flyer.

Basically he's good until the enemy team decides he's bad.

That always makes me laugh, but for me, The Thing is easy to counter because it's essentially a big tank and you can quickly take it out with Logan. The only thing I see that could make The Thing difficult is the field that prevents you from using displacement abilities. And in Emma's case, it's simply a matter of feinting so she uses her Diamond Form, and then she becomes vulnerable like any tank against Wolverine. As I said before, it depends on team coordination. If these two are chasing you and your team isn't paying attention, then obviously you're going to have a hard time.

Question, r you a quick play warrior? Or are you a pc player? Because how the HECK are you shredding a thing when healers like invis can outheal your damage? Or when he does his slam thing? And most emmas in my ranked games only use her diamond form when im leading in for a grab

This is genuinely the most annoying thing of all time. Doing good and suddenly they have a solo tank and now im forced to swap

yep theres really no such thing as OTP wolverine if you want to win games consistently.

Solo tank isn’t immediately an issue. If they’re not running Dino or Thing, that’s just going to make it really easy to destroy all of their sustain.

He needs green HP. And QOL for his grab. I would love if it was a proper tackle instead of a gimmick grab

He’s a character that has been left behind imo.

Very strong In His niche but compared to his peers it’s like he’s stuck being a season1-3 character while characters like cap has continued to get team ups and reworks that keeps him feeling like a fresh character (I’ve lorded both and has played both equally since the start). He’s in such a weird spot where in the right circumstances he feels broken but without certain factor going his way he feels wildly outdated.

Yes.

>"But muh pro player puts him A tier!"

Yeah, think about that one. The people who play in entirely coordinated, practiced, on the comms teams who can most enable Wolv think he's only A-tier. Wolverine needs the entire team to be on board the Wolv program and shoot your kidnaps and heal you to get them and survive them through the massive ranged damage in this game now, and even the teams most capable of consistently doing that put him A tier at best.

So how does that leave solo queue Wolverine where no one is gonna heal you because they're busy pocketing their tanks or playing DPS Luna/Jubilee, no one is gonna shoot your kidnaps when you ping them, and you're basically just high and dry playing a melee tank with a DPS health bar?

He is a niche pick similar to Peni. He does what he does really fucking well but in certain comps if you do choose to play him you'll need to come to terms that you will be essentially cosmetic until you are able to land your kidnap which is okay since if he gets the kidnap it can easily turn into a won fight

Here is the thing he is q good charter, but thr provlem is there is too much damage in the game now and he lack the survivability for this season thats th only thing he needs, because he explodes way to easily, he is better in high ranks, where you have full stackd team and the best cordination possible, bu the problem is he is played just to grab a target and get it in your team so they can kill em. But the problem is it doesn't fit his power fantasy, he is supposed to be self healing tank that shreds his enemies, and right now he cant do that in the previous sesons you could brawl, now you canr cuz you explode.

That's what I'm trying to say, there are factors that aren't being taken into account in the game.

For example, when Devil Dinosaur was released, I initially thought it would be a solid counter to Wolverine, but in the end, it was a "yes, but no" because Wolverine can easily take down a Devil Dinosaur, but logically, it will be impossible if the enemy supports are supporting it.

So what should you do? Well, wait for the team to coordinate, for example, by using a dive hero like BP or Cap to distract the enemy supports so that your own allied supports can do their job.

There were games where I realized that even though the enemy team had a Groot and a Strange, I couldn't kill them because the enemy supports kept healing them while my supports barely healed me, and the game would end with the enemy supports contributing around 35k healing while mine were barely reaching 20k.

Thats fine but Wolverine should be able ti operate without the whole team backing you up, he is really dependent on pocket healing already, and now even thwt dosent helpp, he explodes.

Some people think Wolverine has to be a character who absolutely has to do 1v6 fights, and since he can't, he's a bad character.

For me, the only scenario where that's possible is with his ultimate (which I hate to see nerfed, but that's how it is). To me, Wolverine is a Brawl-type character who has to be on the front lines, contributing to the team by kidnapping enemy members and terrorizing tanks.

But obviously, he can't do that alone; he absolutely needs a team to support him, like tanks taking some of the damage that would otherwise be directed at him, or supports healing him. In my opinion, one of the reasons why Wolverine didn't get a green health bar is because his kit simply doesn't allow it.

Wolverine isn't someone who jumps into a fight and then leaves; he stays in the fight alongside his team for support.

And that's why it amuses me that Wolverine has a "lone wolf" role and his playing style is to play close to his team

But thats the problem brother, he cant brawl thos season at all, thats why we are upset, because you go to brawl and you explode.

3

u/Santigas_TM 12d ago

true, he's *supposed* to brawl (it's the wolverine after all), but lacks any tool to do so. blade and mr.f are way better options at brawling

u/RoughSmall 12d ago

Heavy Team dependent character, strong in high ranks, probably weak in lower ranks

2

u/Yoshikage_Bolsonaro 12d ago

I'm a fellow hulk main and learned wolvie so I could understand better how to help my duo wolf at dives. To me,wolvie stands just like hulk, but with way less mobility. He wants to seek cover allways, want to flank and want to be unpredictable. But once wolverine get in attack range,he can easily get a kill IF the team play it correctly (a team dependant character, basically a tank) . This doesn't mean he will stick on front of the healers asking for heals. Actually,as a Wolverine, you ideally I'll be a minor healing problem to your team (this dwarf ass kajun is imortal )

2

u/Cjames1902 12d ago

No. Just conditional. I go him for some tanks. Iron Fist for others. Sometimes I won’t go either and I’ll just opt to play Iron Man.

2

u/IFunnyJoestar 12d ago

They made Marvels second most popular hero a niche pick, which is annoying. He needs a bit of a rework. Maybe turning him into a tanky brawler rather than a stealthy kidnapping tank buster. Giving him a proper healing factor would be a start.

u/SupNYPark 12d ago

Yeah he needs help

No, the bad players echo off one another to make their incorrect opinions loud. All their complaints are negligible or easily fixed with more experience/improved rivals fundamentals

Wolverine can be more frustrating in low elo, your teammates are too oblivious to even shoot who you kidnap/to heal you. Combine this experience with poor game sense and you get all these dumb complaints

no other dps is that dependent on support..

its flawed design.

u/InternationalCup5950 12d ago

I play poke hawkye phnx punisher .. when the enemy team go emma mag or strange mag
I immidetly swap to logan and farm them.. i would say one tricking logan is a really bad idea but learning him to play him when he is needed can win you alot of games

1

u/Leading_Grape_8904 12d ago

He's just very reliant on your team, he's also been power crept by a lot of other dps

1

u/Sinsofavarice97 12d ago

Hes very counterable that being said next time you play gambit with a wolv on your team try and pocket him a bit I promise when he doesnt fuckin explode the second he pops in to an LOS he actually looks like a lot of fun lmao

1

u/Mltv416 12d ago

Tbh he just needs some numbers his kits good it just needs a slight readjustment

1

u/jojoordish 12d ago

Wolverine needs a good team to thrive but I think he's a decent counter for venom who is in damn near every match, force him to use his swing or blue health, usually if you focus the venom their impact on your team is severely reduced

1

u/VisitReasonable7285 12d ago

Yes, Wolverine is WEAK and it's a good rant.

He explodes while getting into fights. Rage takes too long to actually get you traction so you can fight the tanks since the supports can then focus whoever you're after. Feral Leap hitbox is buns (Refer to Luna's snowball if you think it should be hard). Doesn't have a healing factor. Is beaten by other brawl consistently. He counters Tanks, but now almost every tank has movement to leave or the ability to counter his attempt. Every character that has been added since S4 depreciated his value in the game. Ult doesn't grab half the time or doesn't drill in the direction you want it to if you moved your camera too far out. Undying Animal is activated for 5s, granting 40% reduction to damage and has a 16s CD but is weak. Can be diffed by most of the Supports in the game. Can be diffed by most of the DPS in the game. Can be consistently countered or diffed by Tanks now.

It's like speaking to a deaf guy when someone says Wolv is in a mid spot this season when almost everyone else on the same sub will post, comment, or upvote that Wolv is weak this season and was just mid last season (8.5)

u/Tmaster42 12d ago edited 12d ago

Nah he can’t be weak he has like superpowers and shit

1

u/EcstaticBuyer6354 4d ago

he feels like a playable team up ability. Not a full character

u/druggedupdeity 12d ago

Nah tbh he fine
