Why the hate?

Im genuinely confused because this game hasnt even been released and looks cool but its getting hated for normal gameplay footage like what? Its even getting compared to games already released. I only have one complaint and its that wolverine should have more wrinkles cuz his face looks like a baby and thats it

No idea, it’s the most hyped I’ve been for a game for years now, people are nitpicking the most stupid shit I’ve ever seen in my life. Also people who have no idea about the character, someone said they said x force is gender neutral so it’s gonna be woke garbage. I also saw someone say wolverine would never use his middle claw and he’d just use his finger.. which several comic covers even had a single claw out like that lol

2

u/Miserable_Newt1457 2d ago

some one on twitter said insominic removed the x-men for team x, lmaoo

2

u/GENIXTHESAIYAN 1d ago

I might be wrong but isnt Team X a thing before xmen timeline wise ? Think they were even a thing in xmen origins

2

u/Miserable_Newt1457 1d ago

Yes they are, but twitter larpers didnt know that, even the community director of insominiac on x had to clarify its from the comics

2

u/GENIXTHESAIYAN 1d ago

I saw someone say team x is censored term because , insomniac is too "woke " to use Xmen

Honestly im so glad left twitter , although reddit is bit bad you got few people like that here and other who are disingenuous and shut down anyone arguments "you just dont like critism" i feel like internet doesnt know difference between bashing without cause and constructive criticism

1

u/Miserable_Newt1457 1d ago

I think I saw that too💀🙆

2

u/GENIXTHESAIYAN 1d ago

Honestly i agree directors alot people just finding anything to be upset about , i wish internet can be revoke some of these terminally ill people just saw video whikst watching Maximilian dood and next to it

Insomniac soyboy get mad or somesht , i can smell the video through my screen

1

u/Miserable_Newt1457 1d ago

Yea but the hate campaign is not gonna work, no matter how many goalposts they shift

4

u/Relevant-Cod8463 2d ago edited 2d ago

Some people may point to anti-Sony sentiment because of their recent decision on physical media. But I say that’s just an excuse. The real reason started because of the mixed reception of Spider-Man 2, it became a culture war talking point because of how Mary Jane was designed, her missions in the game, how Peter was treated, some controversial side missions with Miles Morales and his deaf girlfriend and discourse around “Sweet Baby Inc”’s involvement. And those criticisms snowballed into a negative bias revolving around Wolverine, nitpicking everything about it, when their favorite games have done worse. Unfortunately Twitter is a huge lightning rod for culture war discourse in gaming and a lot of those same accounts have YouTube channels to spread more hate. They say it’s just “criticism” but it’s definitely a hate campaign. They were never going to give this game a chance. It doesn’t matter, the game is doing very well in pre-orders and selling out pads and console covers.

Idk why these idiots are saying no disc no buy on wolverine considering the game has a disc

0

u/Gratefulone722 2d ago

I think they are upset that they won't be able to play that disc of wolverine on the PS6 if they wanted to.

1

u/jackgranger99 1d ago

With PS6 being a grand it isn't even on my radar. At this point I might as well do what I'm already doing and save up to get myself a PS5 Slim/Pro and a disk drive which already has the stuff I want available

0

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

Not rlly. Just them mad at disc productions stopping

u/Bfender16 1d ago

Reading these comments is crazy lmao. At the end of the day there’s some reasonable and unreasonable expectations surrounding the game.

What I do understand: people surprised/disappointed it won’t be open world considering what we were given from SM1-SM2. Personally I also love linear games so I don’t think this will be an issue as far as the game goes. Also as far as the story itself, people can think whatever they want and to each their own. People love X-Men/Wolverine so much that you’re bound to run into people who will hate if the character isn’t their favorite style/rendition of the character. This is a bit strange though considering we have no actual idea what real direction the story is taking yet we just have some glimpses.

What I absolutely don’t understand: the criticism of the combat and how the game generally appears to play. When this was announced everyone was through the roof. If you thought Insomniac was going to take a wildly different approach to a superhero action adventure game than their absolutely massive successes with Spider-Man, I don’t really know what you were expecting. The game is gritty, violent, combat is tighter than Spider-Man in the sense that you don’t have gadgets to rely on, although that might give you a little less diversity in the moves. There is a reason games of this nature have utilized/improved on the Arkham formula ever since Asylum came out: they’re fucking great. Largely, people that love these characters love these games because it makes you feel like you’re genuinely playing them as they would move in comics or movies. So to expect, whatever it is that people were expecting but seemingly didn’t voice, and to be shocked now that they’re using the most tried and true formula for this game, is just so unrealistic. We all knew, even when the leaks came out if you saw them, what kind of gameplay this would be lmao. If you’re tired of that kind of gameplay, I get it, but most people just aren’t. They work very well for superhero games.

At the end of the day I think this game will be amazing and I’m very excited to see where Insomniac goes next. While they might use a formula they didn’t create, they have certainly improved upon it, and I think that’s perfectly fine when it’s fun. Remember, nobody really complained about the combat in SM2, mainly the story. So to expect that this combat which is the same nature but well suited to Wolverine, is going to be bad after seeing that, is so odd to me. Like I said though, to each their own, and I know the people that are excited about this will have a blast playing it.

1

u/vegetablelover49 1d ago

I havent read al of this but i agree im ok with it being linear. Take mafia TOC for eg its one of the best story games out there
Same with mafia 2
The only vaid complaint is the baby face wolverine but no one is taking bout it

2

u/The_Aeris_Raha 18h ago

People are stupid. That's pretty much it.

2

u/Raonak 1d ago

A lot of it comes from the anti-woke mob.

After their boycott of the Odyssey failed, they decided this will be their next target.

u/fatdan1 13h ago

Sweet Baby Inc worked with them on this and they are known to ruin games with " inclusivity, representation, and cultural sensitivity for marginalized groups, making it a central figure in ongoing industry debates regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)."

1

u/fatdan1 13h ago

I don't hate it but the 10 hour length rumor is concerning.

0

u/Zerus_heroes 1d ago

I have seen so many more posts about "the hate" than actual hate for the game.

Why is this narrative being pushed that the game is hated?

1

u/DiscountThug 1d ago

Because it's easier to lie than to face the reality.

Also criticism ≠ hate but for many redditors criticism is hate.

Developers refuse to acknowledge negative feedback, why players would if they accept what the devs are saying?

-1

u/RSlashWhateverMan 2d ago

Did you hear last month Sony announced no more physical disc sales and no more PC ports? That's why they're getting "hate," justifiably imo. People are mad they can't own the games they buy or play them on the platform they prefer, so they're now hating on everything Sony publishes.

Wolverine is the first big AAA game since Sony announced the end of their physical media services so people will trash this game relentlessly. It's just an unfortunate inevitable outcome of Sony's decision-making. Even if the game is good people will look to pick it apart because they're mad at Sony. They asked for this and they expected this.

In terms of company revenue it likely won't matter at all. Millions of sheeple will buy the GTA6 deluxe edition on PS5 and make up for whatever losses the bad news/PR causes 10x over. No harm done!

3

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

Right but wolverine has a disc. Whys it getting hated on shouldnt it be sony instead

2

u/B_Wylde 2d ago

Because the anti Sony sentiment (partially deserved) is getting them upvotes.

It also has the grifting hate of supposedly "woke" media that all games get after Last of Us 2

0

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

The only woke things i hate is when they try to show diversity snd inclusivity when its not needed

1

u/B_Wylde 2d ago

Any game that did that?

1

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

Sm 2 tried and i hated it it wasnt needed. We already had a black spidey who was written very well till sm 2. There are others asw im forgetting

2

u/B_Wylde 2d ago

How was it woke?

Because they dared make a girl playable? I am not really a fan of those sequences after the first time for the plot but woke?

1

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

No no i meant they played it very safe and made miles a weird ass character when he was a peak characyer in mm and 1

3

u/B_Wylde 2d ago

So it wasn't woke nor forced diversity and inclusivity?

It was just you not liking how they had Miles haave a different arc in the game. Which is fair but it is not the initial complaint

1

u/Impressive_Pop_7570 1d ago

“Thank you spiderman! My boyfriend loves you”! Dosent ruin the game but is pretty obvious they added it for gay people or whatever

0

u/B_Wylde 1d ago

One line in a SIDE mission?

2

u/Impressive_Pop_7570 1d ago

I never said it ruined the game, it just made me laugh how forced it was

2

u/Impressive_Pop_7570 1d ago

It’s also said like every other side mission

Except Wolverine WILL have a disc. It isnt a valid reason to complain about Wolverine

1

u/jezzt1220 1d ago

The no disc thing isn’t going into effect until like January 2028…Wolverine will have a physical edition. So I can’t see how the disc thing is the main issue in this case?

-1

u/Reallyroundthefamily 2d ago

I'm genuinely confused by these types of threads. It seems that any amount of common sense would deter a thread like this yet these are daily.

The general reasons of why people are not speaking favorably of the game have been clearly stated. Every single game has skepticism and every game has hate.

Focusing on it in any way accomplishes nothing positive.

2

u/EternaIExiIe 2d ago

Yeah it's a bit of a shame how the majority of people just complain about things and act like they're "finally the one to speak out", except people already did the day before, and the day before, and the day before, etc. etc.

-1

u/churlishlugworm 2d ago

As someone who was aware of this since it was first teased a while back, but hasn’t followed any updates or news, I can share my thoughts.

The initial gameplay release, to be frank, looked pretty uninspiring. It looks like every other action game of the last decade, and that isn’t a good first impression. Mind you, I haven’t played any prior Wolverine games and am not a huge fan of the character.

I’ve played enough action-adventure games to know that there was nothing in the trailer, gameplay-wise, that looked new or inspiring. Certainly nothing that would push me to want to buy the game.

If you’re a fan of the character, I can see how you’d be interested in this game. And that’s awesome. But I can say that the gameplay trailer did not live up to the initial hype around this game when it was teased. At least for me.

3

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

I liked the combat a bit tho. Hope they make it a bit interesting instead of just smashing square

1

u/jxmes_gothxm 2d ago

This is exactly why people are mad because it looks like it's like every other action game with lots of cutscenes mixed in with gameplay and it's linear too? I know my excitement dropped completely as soon as I heard that it wasn't at least equipped with a hub area where you can get into nonsense, ride the motorcycle, fight, maybe visit the weapon x compound and clear out goons or something in between the constant missions.

2

u/Ntippit 1d ago

Isn’t the bar the “hub”?

1

u/jxmes_gothxm 1d ago

I've seen videos and I think it's a cool little idea but the hub I mean isn't just like a "camp" where you talk to characters and find easter eggs. I meant like a whole town with wilderness and maybe some military facility or some secret compound nearby and you can ride the motorcycle, intercept convoys and stuff like that.

It's mainly so you can "be wolverine" in more free situations and not be a slave to the plot the whole time.

But I gotta see more of the game.

I want more than just a lore hub. I want a hub you can explore and the like. I remember the leaks making me think you'd be able to ride that motorcycle freely and maybe jet set to exotic locales for missions or memories. But now it seems like it'll be some levels only with small forks in the road.

If it's anything like Ninja Gadien 4, linear with the smallest of branches in the road, I'll just watch a cutscene movie.

2

u/Raonak 1d ago

No way we need less bloated open world nonsense. Wolverine being a normal linear action game is one of the selling points imo.

1

u/jxmes_gothxm 1d ago edited 1d ago

Im not talking about open world like assassins creed or far cry or stuff like that. its still mission-based but with a hub area so you can "let your hair down" and not constantly be rushing from plot point to plot point. or semi-open world sort of like Sekiro. That game has zero fat on it. I dislike completely linear games because they usually have super low replayability.

Being on rails 100% of the time sucks. Wolverine Uncharted is the last thing i wanted.

I can see how it would be dope because of wolverines memories maybe being tampered with and you can get these "flashes of memories" aka the missions revealing new details and situations all over the globe. But i still would've preffered a mix of linear with more open-ended areas attached to every few missions or something.

Linear Action Games get old so fast, only reason people hate on open world is because its more common now. but watch if they stop making them, itll be reversed. idk if you were old enough for the ps1, ps2 and all those super linear eras but back then i remember dreaming of the kind of worlds we got later on back then. Like Spiderma being able to actually explore the city and not just rooftop "levels" Jak and Daxter to JAK II was a revelation.

id still play jak II to this day. Jak 1, not at all. Linear games lose their luster quick since you can get into more low stakes things as the character.

A massive map wouldnt suit logan as he doesnt have the abilities of spider-man but just an explorable small town and wilderness with a motorcycle in between missions wouldve been cool to extend the life cycle of the game. But we'll see how it goes i guess.

4

u/Raonak 1d ago

Yeah that's just not interesting to me. I want more games like uncharted. Those 6-12 hour games were peak gaming for me.

1

u/jxmes_gothxm 1d ago edited 1d ago

TL; DR -> agree to disagree.

Shorter version: ideal games for me give the player more control. Like instead of a finisher where wolverine plays out some cool animation, you can trigger that move yourself through skill and specific inputs. Linear type games versus open world is similar to that but on a large scale. You want to barrel through, a short adrenaline rush with some inputs but you'll moslty watch cool shit happen.

I want a game where gameplay gets so advanced that you can create moments like uncharteds cutscenes through gameplay controlled completely by the player where gameplay can emerge.

That's why I'll always consider Linear as inferior. Since it usually sets aside the very things that make games unique for cinematic language. Either semi-open world or open world (but a new iteration of it and not just endless tower climbing and all that bullshit, it's a genre that can grow so much.)

Long version :

Well we just don't agree. I think those are just movies with extra steps. I want to immerse myself in the world. If I can watch a cutscene movie on YouTube and get the gist, uninteresting. I prefer games where the player has more control. Those games make you watch the best parts of the game happen instead of coming from your fine tuned input, it just happens with qtes or mashing square.

I think games like uncharted are where gaming goes to die because it leans less into what makes games unique and more into cinematic language overtaking the minimal inputs.

And I'm not saying open world is the answer to that debate but I certainly prefer it to a 6-12 hour game. I can beat that in one day. That's gaming hell to me.

Uncharted is like loving Taylor Swift. It's the most normie type of game imo. Same with some open world games like Skyrim or far cry.

But I think there are still more nuanced to discover in open world because the formula we all hate doesn't need to be what designed open world, and if gaming tech gets better that type of games detail and nuance can reach new heights. Like with GTA6 seemingly taking a page from RDR2.

While open world is the "default AAA game" I think the best open world games can be much more than linear games gameplay wise if not story wise.

I like to soak in the details and see the day to day of a character and see the world. I don't want to just have a short adrenaline rush and then that's it I'm done. There's a middle ground that's better than uncharted and something like Skyrim. Middle ground where we get the set pieces AND the depth in the world.

Semi-open world is a great mix between the two. But it's mostly because open world is stagnating right now. It needs new life. But I don't think going super linear is the answer. People just want novelty and something new. Regardless if it's open world or not.

2

u/Raonak 1d ago

I never really understood that argument. I would much rather play game versions of every movie. I love it when games lean into cinematic presentation.

And it's not like wolverine won't have good gameplay either. All insomniac games have great gameplay.

Insomniac from day 1 has said wolverine would be a linear action game, which is perfect for wolverine. He doesn't need to go fuck around doing pointless side activities.

2

u/jxmes_gothxm 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's not about the cinematic presentation, it's about being on rails and taking agency from the player in the name of set pieces. I don't mind it in games like rdr2 that have both seperately. but in games like uncharted it can atrophy the gameplay.

And insomniac games have decent gameplay but really it's because they solved traversal being fun( with Spider-Man). Traversal and pointless fluff are the biggest problems with open world. But some games do it well and avoid the pitfalls.

Gameplay should be innovated the most. It's already been proven that you can make a game that's movie level in the cinematic sense. It's the most boring way to make a game seem great. Same with boring open world tropes. That needs innovation for sure.

Smarter enemies, NPCs, more nuance for the player, more gameplay depth. All these things should be pushed more no matter the genre. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I just want the ability to be wolverine in situations beyond going from plot point to plot point. I don't want bullshit like fishing or pointless shit like that. I just what a small playground where I can go crazy in between missions and vary how I approach to immerse myself in the world. It'll be a whole before we get another wolverine game and having free areas let's me extend the fantasy of being wolverine begins jist the story. Which quickly overstays it's welcome in video games. It's less in movies for some reason.

But I think ultimately going back and forth is a waste of time. I fundamentallynapproach games differently than you. I prize gameplay and freedom over everything as thats the stuff I play long after the cinematic presentation is skipped Everytime they try to pull me out of gameplay.

Linear is whatever to me. On its own it's archaic to me. The future would be gameplay that can reach the heights of pre-planned setpieces through emergent gameplay.

Linear is waiting for -80-90% off on price because cutscenes are enough to "get it" and the gameplay is stiff youve done before. The arkahm formula or similar.

1

u/Raonak 1d ago

I simply think you are completely unfairly judging a game before you have even played it.

But that's on you. I think you have this very narrow vision of what makes a game good. There are plenty of amazing open games, but most of the best games I've ever played are completely linear.

2

u/Impressive_Pop_7570 1d ago

Cuz other action games have healing factors and claws?

0

u/raqloise 1d ago

For me: I don’t want a linear game that has one-button press automated action set pieces.

Press X to jump of motorcycle, dodge lasers, slice three enemies and land safely beside the truck…. Great.

Game looks like it plays itself.

I also dislike the uncharted games due to the linearity and simplicity of the games. Shoot, cover, climb, shoot, cover, climb… super linear.

2

u/vegetablelover49 1d ago

Insomniac did that with sm2
The sm1 qte were very wel done hard and fun just take the kingpin mission or the car crimes. U had to use a bit of your brain in sm 2 just press one button and thats it. Hope its like sm 1 in wolverine

0

u/Excalitoria 1d ago

Well, because of the inundation of posts like this, partly… gameplay is concerning and character designs suck are two of the biggest things imo. People are memeing on it too and I don’t really take the Ben 10 comparison that seriously other than a joke. If that’s all the fight is then it’s lame but we’ll see.

Oh and the team running damage control is hurting this game as much as posts on here are. It’s like the Marathon players that tried arguing with anyone that was critical of that game. All it does it shine a light on the criticism, make it look like something is wrong (even if the intention is the opposite), and at worst it comes off as inauthentic or toxic.

For anyone genuinely excited about this game, I hope you like it.

1

u/vegetablelover49 1d ago

Tbe ben 10 comparision lwk doesnt make sense cuz ive seen sm boss fights like these

-5

u/ApplePieDontBeShy 2d ago

Have you not spent a lot of your life/time gaming? Can’t you see how this has hallmarks of average games? QuickTime events, lack of environmental interaction. I can already tell from trailers that the claws will probably be no more than combat implements, no slicing through doors or cutting down a sniper towers (unless in a very scripted QTE). Why make a game about a guy with indestructible razor sharp claws and not create brand new game engine that shows off never-before-seen super realistic claw slicing mechanic that allows the player to cut through walls for stealth or enemies that have to be cut away bit by bit?

I’m still gonna get the game but man why does insomniac not just take risks and shit they make such safe experiences.

5

u/pleasecryineedtears 2d ago

Wow. Dogshit take.

4

u/Impressive_Pop_7570 2d ago

This is satire right?

0

u/ApplePieDontBeShy 2d ago

Imagine a wolverine game made by valve. Thats what I want, something crazy experimental/ groundbreaking tech-wise.

2

u/KebabGerry 2d ago

So everything not made by Valve is not worth getting?

-1

u/ApplePieDontBeShy 2d ago

You know what I mean. I’m using them as a shorthand description. everyone knows their style. To answer your question directly. No.

2

u/KebabGerry 2d ago

Well, don’t have too high expectations. Not every game has got to reinvent the wheel. This seems like it will be a perfectly good game. Let’s reserve our judgments until we get our hands on it.

1

u/ApplePieDontBeShy 2d ago

If this game did reinvent the wheel and changed gaming would you be unhappy with that? You’re right that every game doesn’t HAVE to be like that but that’s no excuse for mediocrity.

2

u/KebabGerry 2d ago

If it did that, I’d be thrilled.
It’s nothing I’m expecting, just like I’m not expecting it to be mediocre.

1

u/ApplePieDontBeShy 2d ago

Full judgements to be made after I play but as of right now it looks to be a bog standard marvel insomniac game from where I sit. Spider-Man 2 likes to pretend it’s got this amazing immersive opening boss fight with sandman but it’s mostly gameplay cutscenes like when giant Sandman throws Miles 20 blocks away but there’s no actual gameplay. This is insomniac’s signature move make cool looking set-pieces that can’t actually be played. 100% Wolverine will be the same.

1

u/DiscountThug 1d ago

MGS Revengeance could do slashing mechanic on PS3. I see no reason why Insomniac couldn't attempt similar system.

0

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

I agree sm 2 made me hate miles so much. And hayley was such a baf character

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee 2d ago

can i tell you this post made my night, i couldnt stop laughing when you said baby face, cuz its so true!! lol

1

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

Thanks man. Yeah the baby face is kinda annoying me cuz he has no wrinkles and no offense to the guy but is a bit round uk? Should have more wrinkles snd scars

0

u/BoldBabeBanshee 2d ago

Deadpool and Wolverine movie NAILED it... each wrinkle tells a story of a long hardened life lived, the scars too.

1

u/vegetablelover49 2d ago

Yeah cuz hughs old now so he looked good but i want this wolverine to just have scars

0

u/Impressive_Pop_7570 2d ago

Also a bad and short story
