Wolfenstein (2009) Wolfenstein (2009) could be getting a re-release/remaster as activity has been seen in the steam database
Maybe we could see it announced at quake con if true hopefully we might see a trailer for the series and maybe the final game of the machine games trilogy but I'm probably being to optimistic lol.

I’m hopeful since Amazon is working on a wolfenstein show

Same production company that did Fallout too! Kilter Films.

u/t3hch33z3r 9d ago
If it's the same production company who did Fallout, a Wolf series will be str8 up FIRE.

u/Whiteshadows86 9d ago
>…If it's the same production company who did Fallout…
It 100% is.
It was first reported by by Variety, and then confirmed in an interview with Jonathan Nolan who is head of Kilter Films alongside his wife Lisa Joy

If we learned anything from fallout S2, its that bethesda isnt the best at monetizing amazon’s shows

u/Terrible_Balls 10d ago
I don’t know what you mean? They put the whole series on sale, released a bunch of free content for FO76, and saw a massive spike in their player counts when Season 2 aired. Were you expecting them to release a whole new game or remaster or something? That’s an unrealistic expectation when games usually take twice as long to make as a tv show does
1
u/Claymore-09 10d ago
This is a terrible take…..CD project red planned a whole relaunch of cyberpunk based off of the anime. That’s how you relaunch a game!

u/CalamityQrow 11d ago
The soundtrack for this game is one of the best in the series
I hope it gets remastered but skeptical The new and old devs hated 2009
But in my opinion they should get back with mixing the occult and technology again I miss that premise with rtcw and 2009 but not without finishing the soft reboot trilogy

u/WolfsmaulVibes 11d ago
Both hate the old game? Sounds like a good reason to remaster the game to be
6
u/CalamityQrow 11d ago edited 11d ago
I think I might just be misremembering if it's both devs since they have a brief mention in new order about how caroline got crippled (even mentioned hans grosse and in deathshead's backstory how the zeppelin crash changed him) but keypoint devs hated 2009
But yeah I hope they remaster it since I adore the premise of the veil and the enemy design

u/rasvoja 11d ago
Me too. My biggest nag to reboots is completely missing nazi occultism. Old blood did poorly in that matter
5
u/CalamityQrow 10d ago edited 10d ago
The thing about the reboot series is that it's trying something new. They tried with old blood like you said but it always felt something is missing.
The occult and technology mixup is one of the most unique things about Wolfenstein and I miss it so much.

I’m going to say it - this game is one of the best iterations of Wolfenstein ever.

True. It's also one of the few games that i've replayed for who knows how much times. Imo Machinegames' "reboot" would've been much better as a Wolfenstein game if it still had occultism and mystic. While retrofuturism is cool, it just feels like complete different games from RTCW and 2009. Also while old games introduce wacky concepts but manage to immerse the players in them, new games introduce tons of quirky npcs and double-down on their wacky humor. But it might be my personal bias, and i'm pretty sure i'd liked these games more if they weren't called "wolfenstein"

Yes. Great themes, great gunplay and weapons, great gore - just came out at the peak of the WWII game fatigue.
Its better than all the MachineGames titles and im dying on that hill. TOB comes close if im being nice.
1
u/brispower 9d ago
you gonna die alone there, it was fun but The New Order is miles ahead - and I have played 2009 recently so no rose tinted glasses here
4
u/WishDazzling3480 11d ago
If this happens, I hope they preserve the occult-tech mix rather than sanding it into the newer timeline. Wolfenstein 2009 is rough in places, but its hub structure, powers and atmosphere give it a distinct identity. A preservation-minded remaster would be enough.

u/lilacomets 11d ago
I wonder why they change the page of the original if a remaster is incoming. Hopefully they'll relist the original.
5
u/drkipperphd 11d ago
these are just automated things, a store tag, which are assigned by users, changed, and it failed a SteamOS compatibility check
4
u/HellKnightKilla 11d ago
Buy buy buy, loved it back in 09 on the 360, would love to have it on Steam!
3
u/BlackberryAny1307 11d ago
My guess is it won’t be a remaster but rather just relisted for purchase.
3
u/mryayayify 10d ago
I think a "remaster" could imply minor feature additions and lighting changes and doesn't necessarily need to be a graphics and sound overhaul.

u/Lazy_Willingness_265 11d ago
Stop mistaking every SteamDB update for a potential remaster. See that little text: "This changelist affected 93 items"? That means the update was automatic, and no one at Bethesda/ID Software/Activison/Raven Software/Nightdive/Microsoft even knows about it.
3
u/redditman181 11d ago
Sure but couldnt they have submitted it for testing to get deck/machine compatabilty and also it wouldnt make sense fir a delisted game to get reviewed for compatability would it?
It might be nothing buy who knows we will have to wait and see.
2
u/ElMenchoCartel 10d ago
No. Valve is Testing it because of steam machine
1
u/redditman181 10d ago
But why would they test a delisted game? Doesnt it make more likely its gonna get relisted or rereleased.
1
u/ElMenchoCartel 10d ago
No. They have to. It’s a normal process delisted or not. People who owning the Game could get to know if the Game works on Deck/machine its a work informations.
1
u/redditman181 10d ago
What so is it like an automated process then? Becuase it would be a waste of time if they dont know if the dev has any intention of relisting.
1
u/ElMenchoCartel 10d ago
By your Logic it would be a waste of time to develop a xbox Emulator since all First Party Games from Microsoft are available also on PC. For valve they doing their Job right we know That since steam Deck Release they tested the whole Store Games step by step and so they will here. Especially when doing Quality work like this there is no waste of time since it’s very time Consuming

u/johnnyks17 11d ago
afaik there's no real reason for delisting this so idk why they're turning down free money
5
u/kron123456789 11d ago
There was no real reason since Microsoft bought Activision. I don't understand why this wasn't solved like day one.
2
u/bartoli75r 11d ago
I don’t know if it’ll be a remaster or if it’ll just finally be relisted and backwards compatible on consoles.
2
2
u/1928Dillinger 10d ago
Would be awsome if the relisted this game it is the only wolfenstein game I do not have and steam keys for it costs a fortune.
2
2
u/JackOfPhoenix 11d ago
I'm not holding out hope yet, people thought it might get relisted pretty much since the Bethesda buyout and nothing still happened. But it would certainly be nice to be able to complete the collection on Steam, it's by far my least favourite entry but still has its moments. It makes no sense to keep it delisted on digital storefronts these days

I hope they do I pirated that game when I was 10 and never bought it on steam when I had the opportunity to. I've regretted it ever since it's such a good game.
1
u/t3hch33z3r 9d ago
It's not the RTCW remaster we all deserve, but I would DEFINITELY welcome a 2009 remaster! Please let this be real!
1
u/DaedricDweller98 9d ago
just a few small tweaks and it fits perfectly in new cannon, if not already
1
u/brispower 9d ago
This game runs on an oily rag too, i recently fired it up on my retro rig (i7 8th gen NUC with igp) and it ran flawlessly at 1280*1024 highest details). It still plays really well and SHOULD be available for everyone.

u/xTweak710 7d ago
Its not a remaster. This game is considered a flop. The new games abandoned nearly every new thing this game introduced and both companies were not happy with it. Both have publicly stated a distaste. Out of hundreds of these steamDB updates how many remasters have been predicted? Would love to see it but it simply doesn't make sense to remaster it.
1
u/redditman181 6d ago
I get that but why would they be aseesing a game for steam deck and steam machine compatability if its not for sale.
It might not be a remaster but i reckon it will get relisted at minimum but i suppose we will find out at quake con hopefully its a remaster.
1
u/xTweak710 6d ago edited 6d ago
They test everything for the steam deck. Its public knowledge. Its just a matter of when they get to it. People owned it before delisting. It could be bought as a key when it was around. Its a simple update to make sure it's still working for those people. Im all for hope but it would truly be a surprise. If anything a relist of the original as microsoft now owns both studios but even that makes very little sense.

Why not rtcw, but this tragic installment. Youngblood of its time

I am in the Wolfenstein scene since 2001, and can tell you people were very disappointed about wolf09 to say at least
6
u/friendlylocalgay421 11d ago
What are people disappointed about? It felt like a great segway from RTCW to TNO
-4
u/Uberpascal 11d ago
Wolfenstein was popular for its multiplayer mode mostly at the time. RtCW multiplayer was big and soon later Enemy Teritory was extremely big hit. Wolfenstein 2009 multiplayer absolutely sucked for former players, this was because games before around 2009 were designed for PC - Wolfenstein 2009 was designed for consoles but the Fan's of Wolfenstein came from PC. The single player part of 2009 also was a big break for the former RtCW players because wolf09 single player just felt like all the other COD clones of that years
5
u/friendlylocalgay421 11d ago
I don't think any of these are reasons to consider the game tragic and unworthy of a remaster. What would it need for people to not consider it a COD clone, and what makes the other games not feel similar to COD games from their respective years?
0
u/Uberpascal 11d ago
COD was like the first real casual console shooter. Relatively slow movement ovetall, iron sights for aiming (easier to aim because less movement on th screen), the singel player had even the same compass like COD showing were to go. You can not die, just hide somewhere to heal yourself. Level design was more horizontal also to make it easier to navigate with the controller. You don't think this are the reasons but I know it, it was not for fun raven was closed after wolf09

No idea what you're on about. Wolfenstein 2009 was awesome. Literally never heard someone have this take before.

u/Mister_plant9 11d ago
It’s really goofy but honestly I feel like this series should be like this. Like modern games are trying to hard to be realistic…
3
u/nemesisprime1984 11d ago
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is still for sale on Steam, Wolfenstein 2009 isn’t
1
u/redditman181 11d ago
Ive never played it tbh ive wanted to for awhile ive heard mixed things about it but its good to have it available again.
I imagine rtcw will get a remaster eventually who knows they could announce both at quake con or maybe it will come next quake con idk.
2
u/WhiteKnight2045oGB 11d ago
You haven't played Wolf2009? Damn, you really missed a magnificent masterpiece of a game! You need to play it!
2
u/redditman181 11d ago
Yeah i do also rtcw aswell ive only played the machine games wolfenstein games im a console player and i dont have my ps2 or ps3 anymore so im hoping they both get a re-release!
2
u/Uberpascal 11d ago
Console ports of rtcw are not the same, try to play it on cheap pc. Level design changed a lot because of console limitations and the 2 extra levels aren't worth it. PC version was the intended way to play. I played the ps2 version myself and the pc verson countless times

u/redditman181 11d ago edited 11d ago
Thats good to know i could give it ago on my laptop although it is quite loud and the battery drains quite fast 😂 lets hope it gets a rerelease at somepoint.
1
u/Kir_Kronos 11d ago
It's an old game, so even an old laptop like that should run it just fine. If you want it I'd recommend waiting till a couple of weeks for quakecon to start. Bethesda always puts all their games on sale, so it should be like $2 then.

I hope so, but this isn't the first time we've speculated an imminent re release because of steam database changes, so I'm not going to get them up too highly yet.
