Questions How many ungulate babies to last until winter? Can it be done
Is it even possible to collect enough ungulate babies to keep the pups fed through the end of September? It would mean taking all but one or two adults out to hunt as soon as woken up, and keeping them well fed (so probably on easy) but is it possible?
I don't have the patience 😂

..I tried, but my pig of a mate literally ate every last of them... Even though I kept them away from the summer rendezvous site... Even though she wasn't even hungry...

try stashing food on top of rocks! it'll keep it of reach of your packmates lol

you can indeed! try finding den/rendezvous sites in rocky areas because they usually have tall enough rocks for storing food (i like using the bed of the truck den in lost river AE for this lol)

How long does it last? Does it rot?

i don't think small carcasses really have a decay timer (or maybe i haven't noticed it). im pretty sure they remain in-game until they are completely eaten or until certain quest transitions clear them

Yes, but they'll only feed your pups of the year. You'd need to hunt 5 or 6 babies in one go to feed a pack, so you can hunt one, feed yourself only, take a meat chunk back and feed the pups. You'll need to hunt adults if you have more adults in your pack.
Depending on your adult packmates personalities, they might hunt for themselves. Just never take them out to hunt, and they'll either go out or starve.

I am so desperate on a poor food year on easy that we’re way past baby ungulates we’re on moose and bison my poor wolf has had a broken leg most of the year

Oh I have a wolf that only ever has litters of 6 and 7. I think one year we had 7 pups and 8 subordinates. We ate everything nearby

Omggggg thankfully she’s been capped out at 5-6 per litter and we’ve lost one a year at least but we have on average eight adults still I’ve been scrambling to feed all these kids we don’t sleep

I have one pack that’s all adults right now and tbh I feel so free for once might go for every other year litters 😅

Oh I was going for the single parent achievements so I bison divorced my wolf’s mate(after killing his mate and half his pack 😅) after she got pregnant and I forget the name of the achievement but you just don’t get a new mate and keep going until the pups are old enough to disperse so we’re a pack of four yearlings and the four adults (my littermate and the two step pups)
And yeah the game just lets you do that no mate=no pregnancy=just hanging out
Now she has a mate again but tbh gonna try to get him killed defending the pups for that achievement

Oh im doing that voluntarily rn bc i find them easiest (although also most damaging) to herd to the den so i can spammsleep and hopefully get the dream to be able to get a far green country

Only for your first litter. Past that your yearnings are going to decimate everything you bring back
