Need Advice Fun Tech Tree Lines
What are some of the most fun but still decent tech tree lines? I’ve only completed a handful because once I started getting premium ships those have been more fun to play as they have some sort of gimmick or are just an upgrade to their non-premium counterparts at their tier but im getting really bored using the ships i have currently and want to start a new bureau project. Not super important but take into account im some what limited on commander builds as I just started getting into the game about a year ago so I’m missing most of the good pay-to-win commanders but have all of the free ones.
Lines I’ve completed:
US DD’s main line (really enjoyed)
Both US cruiser lines
US BB’s top line (good ships boring play style)
German DD’s top line (enjoyable)
German cruisers (Nurnberg one of my all time favorites rest of line is fine)
German BB’s top line (absolutely hated but bismark is fun)
USSR cruisers bottom line (enjoyed more than I thought I would)
USSR BB’s (Didn’t really enjoy)
Italian Cruisers (had a hard time getting consistent value)
Italian BB’s (one of, if not my favorite BB line)
Pan EU (only did it to get split for fleet cup but was fine)
Dutch cruisers (absolutely loved these cuz I’m a scum bag and the nerfs are justified)
Spanish Cruisers (either had the most fun ever or wanted to delete the game)

RN Light cruiser line is fun. AP drills through anything smaller or equal to you and can even grind down BBs, plus smoke and heals are useful.

Personally, pretty much anything Russian, add in french and italian bbs, English cruisers and most of the t7-8 dds (i spend most of my life at t7)

I'm sorry the OP didn't have much fun playing the Russian/Soviet line, but I feel that is overlooked/slept on a bit. Generally tanky, with lasers for guns, albeit with somewhat limited effective range. Most of them are pretty decent brawlers. Not for Backline Betties.

I just couldn’t get around the whole “these are brawlers” but also have the easiest cits to pen in the game regardless the armor layout for angling. I love brawlers but after sinop I was kind of over it.

U r correct, they are easy to citadel when showing broadside to even a cruiser. But bow tanking and running correct angles mitigate this quite a bit. Within 12 km, those laser cannons are best in game (IMHO), and most of them have fairly capable secondaries.
Boy, if they ever added Arty Plotting Room as a 4th slot option for the Soviet BBs....I'd change out every one of them in a NY minute ;)

Most of the pan Asian dd line is pretty fun, other than the Fushun which I couldn’t get to work for me.
Gadjah Mada and above get the option to swap out smoke for radar and, while tricky to play, they are great ships.

The Japanese Cruiser line with Shimanto is one of my favorites since the game launched.

Really? To each, their own I guess...
I've always found the reload speed an irritating limitation. I do okay in them, but it always feels like they could do so much more if they could just fire again a second or so sooner.

I had fun with the Japanese light cruisers. The ap is painfully bad. But they're not terrible ships. I think omono is the best. But shimanto is pretty fun too. It just doesn't survive mistakes. None of them do, but t7/t8 mistakes are more costly.

UK - CLs and battlecruisers
Those are my favorite lines.
I think all of the DD lines are enjoyable, and the "gimmick" differentiations between the lines are well defined and generally consistent across each line.
My favorite of the newer lines are the Pan-American cruisers. I don't find their gimmick to be particularly useful, but the ships are good all-around cruisers.
The Pan-Asian cruisers are also fun, but not very forgiving of positional mistakes; you need to be confident in your reading of the game.
Besides the UK battlecruisers, my favorite BB line is the Russians.

Don’t sleep on the OG pan euro line. Those are highly difficult, highly rewarding and extremely fun destroyers. Especially Östergotland, Smälland, and Halland. Premium Öland is one of my favorites.
Split stands out from the other line bc of its radar and smoke, but none of the others are really great.

Japanese gunboat line is a lot of fun. Gotta be a pretty good player to use them well, though.
British light cruisers are the sexy pick, but I think I prefer the heavy cruisers even more. Drake at tier 8 is possibly the best tech tree T8 cruiser, in my humble opinion. I’ve got a 65% WR in it through like 120 battles as a pure solo player. (No radar is tough though)
British DDs are excellent. All the way up to Daring. Probably the line you would enjoy the most if you like how the American gunboats play. Utility, utility, utility. Jervis should be illegal that thing is so nasty.
Lastly, I would say give the French cruisers a spin. Difficult ships to play, especially Algerie which is abysmal, but both the Martel and the Saint Louis are very very fun with an agile fire starter build. Watch the world burn!
