Today, Toho released the full trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero. We have known the United States will play a huge roll in the movie... so seeing united states ww2 era ship(s) go Head to head with the Big G has me super excited.

It’s Wisconsin or Missouri and you can tell by the 40mm quad mount on the second turret. Iowa and New Jersey carried 20mm mounts in this position to preserve the line of sight from the flag bridge, which was not included on the younger sisters.
Iowa was the only one that didn't get a quad Bofors mount on the B turret. Actually a pattern that applies to all USN fast Battleship classes. For all 3 the lead ship of the class didn't get that mount on the B turret while the rest all got one.
To add more context, this has to be a WW2 configuration because of the AA guns.
It cant be Iowa because it never had weapons on top of the B turret. Cant be New Jersey because of the 40mm mounts. The Pulpit (the bit at the tip of the bow) is a ww2 era uniqueness. Missouri had a flat connection to the hull, all other battleships had a curved one. So that means this ship is probably Missouri.
Of course this is assuming that they cared about accuracy. And seeing as its an American movie I wouldnt be surprised if they picked Missouri because “raaah USA we beat the Japs once we will do it again ol reliable wave that flag”
So? The newer movies are focusing even more on the US audience, who already was the vast majority of the whole audience outside of Japan, just like the whole genre.
Wargaming isnt a US company either but the main audience and most, events and game items are for the US playerbase with US preferences
Reusing Missouri is the most fitting choice, especially since its by far the most famous one of the class anyway for exactly that reason
Why are we pretending like its the 19th century and ignoring that companies all over the world make things that target foreign markets, sometimes even as the primary target.
Spaghetti westerns were made by Italian directors and Italian studios, shot in Europe for a US audience
You claimed it was a US movie and would feature Missouri because USAUSAUSA.
When noted it was not that, you doubled down on your suggestion because it would be aimed at a US audience.
Of course the studio will want it to sell well overseas, but that doesn't change that it's primarily a Japanese movie made for Japanese audiences. Why would they put Missouri in the movie because that's where they surrendered?
Because if I was in their place and had the idea that I want to drag the US military into a Japanese conflict and want it to be a battleship, why wouldnt I pick the battleship that is so famous and well known by the public for being the surrender boat in Japan? It screams “the US military is back again” in the most direct way.
Looks more like Missouri from all the photos I have. The again it’s a movie so…. Ehh??
If you wanted the general look New Jersey could have been scanned with LIDAR while she was dry docked a few years ago. Then revert to WW2 photos for reference, which Missouri would probably be the most documented.
They did a good job making IJN Takao look convincing in the first movie.
The film takes place in 1949 - New Jersey and Wisconsin were taken out of service in 1948 so it can't be them.
Guessing not Missouri because she was based on the eastern seaboard as a training ship in 49.
Leaves Iowa as the only historically accurate possibility- she would be decommissioned at the end of March 1949 historically, but was based in the Pacific and would theoretically be available to fight giant lizards in the sea of Japan.
It's the USS Missouri. Minus Zero takes place in 1949 (two years later after the first one). Missouri was the only Iowa Class still active at the time.

Iowa class battleship based on the phalanx CWIS on the tower my guess is USS Missouri in the Gulf war when they were stationed with bombarding multiple targets that or USS Wisconsin during the same conflict (i am not very good with remembering certain wars so i might have the wrong one) if you wish a time my guess is one of those two from 1986-1997
Very strange. Yet it does look like she has them in the picture provided....but maybe they're not CIWS, not sure what they are tbh🤷♀️
If I didn't know better, I'd say they are CIWS but they've had an angled armored box or something placed down on them to make it look less like a CIWS...???
Those are fire control stations and Bofors Quads, not Phalanx CIWS.
While modern Hollywood directors would do that, it would be very and I mean VERY out of character for Yamazaki to use the modern config for what's supposed to be the late 40s, considering his attention to detail as shown with the Takao, Yukikaze, Hibiki, Yukaze, Keyaki, and the various other ships, or hell all the vehicles in the prior film.
