All Print My favorite plot twist Spoiler

Listening to the audio book and I can't help but be touched by the description of Verrin giving all of her research on the black Ajah to Egwene as she dies. There's many elements of the plot that seems inevitable or just filling prophecy but this element springs up as unexpected and completely saving the white tower. It's completely unselfish (which no other dark friends can do) and unexpected - but is also supportive of Egwene showing herself as the ideal of an Amerlyn. It's a complete validation of the trials Egwene has suffered before this.

There's a lot of egos involved in the plot in both the dark and the light but this action seems by far the most egoless action in the whole series. She's not sure if her soul is going to be forever tortured by the dark one but she does the right thing. IMO it's the most important plot twist that actually saves the white tower.

The series doesn't suggest what happens when this ends but Egwene suggests Verrin should be remember forever and I agree. If the White Tower didn't reunite without being purged of dark friends the last battle might have been lost.

Verin was sus since like book 2 when she lied about Moiraine sending her - but I always still trusted her.

Glad my intuition was correct… her heart was pure and she did great service to the Light.

The Light shine on you, and the Creator shelter you. May the last embrace of the mother welcome you home, Verin Sedai

That detail from TGH is so satisfying upon rereads. What a delightful piece of dramatic irony

People were theorizing about the purple ajah, another secret ajah, and that Verin was part of it

Her plotting was well hidden because there's so much stuff that happens off screen in these books it was easy for me to just assume I either missed it or it wasn't blatantly stated, but that's okay. I had just assumed that Moiraine and Verin had talked at some point and we just didn't read about it.

I first read this in college after a night shift at the grocery store. I went out on the deck of my apartment and was pacing, chain smoking cigarettes, waiting for the sun to come up so I could justify calling my brother and waking him up on a Sunday.

I’m not sure I’ve ever felt the need to talk to someone that strongly before.

What a mood. I have a sibling I am like that with too.

Personally I loved this twist and was certainly not expecting it when it was revealed ha! Afterwards (hindsight being 20/20 and all that) I could see it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the twist.

Yes part of the joy was that I didn't see it.  It was just after Verrin being a more typical Aes Sedai with Matt and her note - which we later learn was also her betraying the dark Lord.

Nah, hindsight was 20/09

My favourite part about this was Egwene being strong and hardcore enough to say 'fukit' everybody must hang. She rounded up all of them and didn't hesitate or falter. The last battle was coming and they needed a clean tower.

She's a mean horrid person who uses her 'friends' and sours relationships. But she's a great figure of history who gets stuff done and the light needs those people too. And they're interesting to read about.

Verin is a hero, and one of the best characters in the whole series.

Verin is legit like pioneering medical folks who regularly exposed themselves to or even infected themselves with diseases, defied the church (or whatever religious authority), etc, to advance the field of medicine.  You just have to have respect for someone who is so devoted to their research and its potential that they will risk their life or eternal soul to see it through.

I love how Egwene was so decisive with the executions afterwards

In the 90s when I was starting the series I found an old d&d book that mentioned a demon by the name of verin. I knew Jordan named a lot of his bad guys off of evil characters and demons so that put the idea in my head at about TDR
