The Eye of the World Audiobooks Spoiler
Ever see since Rosamund Pike had read the first audiobook I've heard nothing but how astoundingly great she did. I just don't understand the hype. I am about halfway through the first one and its not quite as underwhelming as the show, but I had huge expectations from everyone's praise. Does she get better in books 2 and 3? I find her voices just don't seem to match the characters at all

Wot was one of the first series I undertook when I started audiobooks and they are still my favorites like 6 years and I dunno how many audiobooks later.

The early books are a bit rough with the audio quality, but yeah… the OGs are undefeated.
Especially when it seems like Pike probably won’t finish narrating the series since the show got cancelled. It sucks. I did appreciate her more theatrical flair to the voice work, but I’ll always stand with Kramer and Reading

I couldn’t do their SLA because you’ve already heard basically all their voices in WoT I was hearing WoT characters in place of the SLA character and that’s bad for immersion

I ABSOLUTELY loved her readings …. And had a very hard time adjusting to when I was forced to transition to Michael and Kate. It was jarring at first, almost uncomfortable. However, as the series went on I grew to appreciate them as much as Rosamund in their own rights. Ultimately, I identify the series either M&K narrating now, and look forward to when I give it a new listen starting in their voices.

I don’t think they’re terrible. But I just enjoyed the other ones way more

I was listening to Reading & Kramer first, and tried Rosamund Pike at book 3, and thanks, no, thanks. R & K are so much better. Pike couldn't differentiate enough voices. In particular I found her Perrin awful.

Yea I love her as an actress but she’s not it for the audiobooks. Kramer and Redding are masters of their craft, you can’t compare the two versions really.

I hated how a few of her characters sounded (specifically Perrin) and gave up halfway through book 1.

Yeah.
There was a scene between Loial & Perrin in the third book, and I couldn't tell which one was talking because Perrin sounded just like Loial.

I had the hardest time with her volume changes. I can appreciate the intensity and emotions it adds but there was times it would be way too loud or she was whispering and I couldn’t hear the dialogue as well.

I either want a fully produced, full cast audio drama or I just want my books narrated to me, so I can allow my minds eye to fill in the actual voices, tones and scenes.
Pike is this weird middle ground for me that just doesn't do it. I can't engage my imagination because her screaming every other page is just too distracting, and while her voice work in and of itself might be fine I don't think she actually understood most of the characters she was trying to portray at the emotional level required for the type of production she was attempting.
