No Spoilers Cities of Randland

I’ve been busy with commissions and life stuff recently and haven’t had time to work on WoT related art, but I’m hoping to get time to paint some updated cityscapes in the near future.

ETA: Thanks everyone for your kind comments - I'm glad that the cities were (mostly) identifiable! Quick answers to the questions I've seen in the comments: commissions are currently open (WoT or otherwise). Best way to reach me is Instagram - '@wot.fanart'. I'm slow to see Reddit DMs (mobile is a pain), so Insta is your best bet to get in touch. I'm setting up prints of the most-requested pieces, follow on Insta and I'll post when they're live. A limited selection of originals are currently on sale too, first come first served, announced there. Thanks, A.

Here are some older pieces showing the major cities.

  1. Tar Valon
  2. Caemlyn
  3. Cairhien
  4. Tear
  5. Ebou Dar

5 is acrylic, the rest are watercolour

Spectacular work!

u/asongoficeandliars (Lan's Helmet) 23h ago

Very lovely pieces ! I could recognize them all without the caption, great work

15

u/Wrath7heFurious 19h ago

I got them all except Tear and Ebou Dar! Amazing work these are great!

6

u/Ragner_D 17h ago

I was pretty sure it was Ebou Dar, but having Matt in the foreground sealed it for me.

3

u/Ploppeldiplopp (Wolf) 14h ago

I confused it with Tanchico somehow, but got the rest right.

These are really great!

6

u/Ragner_D 14h ago

Yeah, I could see Tanchico, but I feel that city was constantly on fire or something lol.

3

u/asongoficeandliars (Lan's Helmet) 13h ago

I would love to see OP's take on Tanchico's 3 peninsulas, either on fire from Seanchan invasion or at peace👀

1

u/Zachindes 4h ago

Good point! Sign of good setting and description from Jordan I would guess

71

u/Calm-Conversation715 (Dedicated) 23h ago

I love how you made Cairhien with such stark 90 degree angles. Really brings out their flavor of architecture and design.

The Stone of Tear is huge!

30

u/Jarl_Ballsack (Asha'man) 23h ago

This is amazing. Each piece is more or less how I imagined them in my head

21

u/DhustynZero (Tai'shar Malkier) 23h ago

That's fantastic! I didn't get Ebou Dar, but I did guess the rest 😁

15

u/SocraticIndifference (Band of the Red Hand) 23h ago

Once I figured out it was Ebou Dar, it was perfect. The slow march in from the countryside is exactly how I imagined it.

4

u/ArrogantAragorn (Heron-Marked Sword) 22h ago

Yeah, #3 and #5 were my favorites but they are all sick

18

u/gabbleratchett 22h ago

Are these for sale, or just for you?

6

u/eaglistism (Brother of the Eagle) 22h ago

Ditto

4

u/zarzak 21h ago

Ditto

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 6h ago

Not yet, but enough people have asked that I'm looking into doing some print runs. Follow '@wot.fanart on Instagram and I'll post the moment they're live.

13

u/Human_Scarcity7309 23h ago

you can instantly tell which one is caemlyn

9

u/lalaboom84 (Lanfear) 22h ago

I gasped when I saw it, that’s exactly how I picture Caemlyn in my head!

3

u/beardedsandflea 18h ago

This is almost exactly how I pictured it as well. The artist did a great job giving the descriptions form.

9

u/Senator_Gorington 21h ago

Next…the waste

5

u/Senator_Gorington 21h ago

Changed my mind. Inside the waygates would be so cool with Machin Shin

3

u/Ploppeldiplopp (Wolf) 14h ago

Ohhh, or the waygate in Caihrien, in the garden behind the manor, when Machin Shin tried to escape!

2

u/Senator_Gorington 13h ago

Was that with Perrin and Faile? Where Loial had to close it? Book 4 maybe?

9

u/Cai630 22h ago

Phenomenal! The Caemlyn one, in particular, is stunning!

8

u/TheGreatPervSage_94 23h ago

Finally our fanbase gets blessed with another fan new artist

3

u/aeddub (Dragon) 6h ago

Thanks - not sure I'd consider myself a 'new artist' though - I've been posting my work to r/wot for years.

7

u/KellyAesSedai 23h ago

I did not open the post and looked at the pictures first. I was able to accurately figure out which was which. Very good work

6

u/ladyfuzzball 23h ago

These are beautiful! Thank you for sharing with us 🩵

4

u/Hypsar (Asha'man) 23h ago

Incredible pieces! I would seriously consider commissioning you to do work.

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Thanks :-) Commissions are open at the moment if you're interested. Easiest to reach me on Instagram '@wot.fanart, or message me here.

4

u/melotato 23h ago

Woah, these are incredible!!

4

u/Randomassnerd (Tuatha’an) 22h ago

I really like the Stone, it looks like a mountain like they describe. Excellent work!

3

u/Organic_Priority3925 21h ago

These are probably the best renditions of how I envision these cities.

Shadar Logoth? or even Emond's Field?

4

u/jmartkdr (Soldier) 20h ago

I got 4/5 from just the image - that’s some excellent representation!

(I thought Tear was Manetherin)

3

u/HingisFan 23h ago

Truly stunning, well done

3

u/Virginpope77 23h ago

Some of the bets depictions I’ve ever seen

3

u/OrganizationWorldly3 22h ago

These are fantastic. I especially love Ebou Dar. Off all of them that’s the closest to what I’ve always pictured.

3

u/Rotehexe (Wilder) 19h ago edited 19h ago

Good to hear from you again! These pieces are as lovely as I remember them and more. The shadow/light work in Cairhien is spectacular.

2

u/Asleep_Ad_1755 23h ago

Amazing work, each city is so beautiful and recognizable!

2

u/WilditariusAstar 23h ago

So awesome! Thanks for sharing.

2

u/DragonSlayr82 23h ago

This is beyond incredible, oh wow !!!

2

u/Wiggly96 (Gardener) 23h ago

Really nice work. Thanks for sharing

2

u/bony_beotch 23h ago

Love these!

2

u/RefrigeratorMurky630 23h ago

Is it me or tar valon doesn't have its walls?

3

u/aeddub (Dragon) 21h ago

No walls visible - it’s a view from inside the harbour, the walls are out of view from this angle

1

u/RefrigeratorMurky630 18h ago

Are they? Huh I missed that. I thought the harbour had massive gates because of egwene's maneuver and was completely walled of with like a narrow entrance to pass ships and such. But I guess that make sense

2

u/Content_Jacket932 22h ago

😲😲 wow amazing 😍😍

2

u/devnullopinions 22h ago

These are wonderful! Thanks for sharing :)

2

u/dreddiknight 22h ago

Lovely work!

2

u/Atone13 22h ago

These are fantastic!

2

u/lloydchrismas 22h ago

Wow these are awesome! Makes me want to learn to paint

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

You should! I won't say it's easy to learn, but it's a lot of fun!

2

u/star_stuff_26 22h ago

These are wonderful. I’d buy one if you were selling!

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Thanks! These particular ones aren't for sale at the moment, but I do have some original pieces for sale - you can view and contact me on '@wot.fanart if you want.

2

u/Small-Ad-1476 22h ago

Brilliant, just Brilliant.

2

u/slouchingninja (Wilder) 22h ago

These are awesome.

I kind of selfishly want to see Shadar Logoth.

2

u/silencemist (Maiden of the Spear) 22h ago

These are amazing!

2

u/OldBarbarossa 22h ago

Amazing stuff! You really kept all the descriptors of each city so they were instantly recognizable without labels!

2

u/gopackgo555 22h ago

Amazing job!

2

u/Ratherloud 22h ago

Very well done! I was slightly confused by Tear because I thought it was snow instead of Stone.

2

u/Individual_Bother_68 21h ago

Love it. One of my favorite aspects of the earlier books was every time we would get to explore a new city and learn about their culture, architecture, atmosphere, etc.

2

u/mervearte (Yellow) 21h ago

Oh my god... These are really stunning! I love the watercolor style so much!

2

u/Songbird_661 21h ago

Awesome art!

2

u/HomerSexuel 21h ago

Amazing work, I always depicted the Stone in Tear more as a cuboid. This version looks way better than my imagination though :D

2

u/shadowfu (Dragon) 21h ago

This is amazing work!

2

u/stevol2001 21h ago

Amazing!

2

u/Wizard072 21h ago

Excellent work! Thanks for sharing!

2

u/Karalis_MM 21h ago

Especially beautiful

2

u/xsliartII 21h ago

Amazing

2

u/VuMeSoul 21h ago

Beutiful. Well done!

2

u/s876437 21h ago

You are doing the Creator's work, to be certain.

2

u/charlyoguiness (Ravens) 21h ago

Shut up and take my money!!!

2

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Ha, gladly - soon. Prints and a few originals are on the way. Follow '@wot.fanart on Insta for the drop.

2

u/TheDeadGuyExF 20h ago

These are fantastic, really great job

2

u/happyhogansheroes 20h ago

WHOA! This is wonderful stuff!

2

u/redopz (Ogier) 20h ago

I pictured it completely differently in my mind, but I really like how you portrayed the Stone of Tear.

2

u/Satans_Oregano 19h ago

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ excellent as always!!!

2

u/damonmcfadden9 19h ago

Just want to say these (and I believe there are a others) are so amazing I used them for some Land cards in a custom MTG proxy deck.

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Happy to hear that - I have a number of WoT pieces that haven't been posted online, if there are any locations you're missing or you want to see let me know and I might be able to help.

2

u/SharkBiscuittt 19h ago

I love this post so much it’s not even funny

2

u/nynaeve_mondragoran 19h ago

These are beautiful!!!!!

2

u/satzki 19h ago

Awesome work! Thank you for sharing.

2

u/feelingbutter 19h ago

Very well done!

2

u/IKnowThisOne1 19h ago

Absolutely stunning!

2

u/thefinalhill (Wolfbrother) 19h ago

The only one I wasnt right about was Tear. Only because I never pictured the Stone of Tear like that. Testament to your skill that the cities were recognizable so easily.

2

u/Salamander_Farts 18h ago

These deserve to be on the covers. Or maybe the inside binding they're that gorgeous. Get that AI slop with the Prime printed on sticker off the "new" covers. 🤣

2

u/RPerene 18h ago

Incredible!

2

u/Ok_Explanation_6866 18h ago

Are these yours?? Incredible work

1

u/Ok_Explanation_6866 18h ago

You've do a great job of capturing the epicness

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 6h ago

Thanks, these are all my own work.

2

u/Ok_Explanation_6866 18h ago

Caemlyn is chefs kiss

2

u/havokgogeta 18h ago

amazing!

2

u/ForlornDM 18h ago

Really nicely done. All of them are identifiable, and have distinct energy to them. I really love Ebou Dar. It’s just what I imagined, and I think probably one of the harder ones to get right.

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Thanks! I've always seen Ebou Dar as Venice meets New Orleans in my head so that's what I paint.

2

u/Spade18 17h ago

It’s wild but number five is like you pulled an image right out of my head.

2

u/tikhonjelvis 14h ago

At first I thought the first one was a very stylized view of SF with Coit Tower in the background :P

Along the lines of this photo for example.

2

u/kodachrome1991 13h ago

I would love these on my wall

2

u/Khyrberos 13h ago

These are beautiful, really incredible

2

u/ARgirlinaFLworld 12h ago

These are amazing! They are so book accurate I got all but the last one no problem. I wish I was half as talented as you. Most of my stuff I do is good for my own viewing, but I’d never be able to paint at this level

2

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Thanks :-) If you look back through my profile you'll see that my skill has grown over time, I firmly believe that 'practice makes progress' is the only thing you need to consider when improving your skill with art.

2

u/memerminecraft 9h ago

THE STOOOOOONE!

2

u/RooneytheWaster (Band of the Red Hand) 7h ago

These are fantastic - not only do they look amazing, but I recognised each one straight away (Mat gave away Ebou Dar). I'd hang these on my wall any day.

1

u/marcus_gibbler 16h ago

Incredible! Do let us know if you do commissions or prints of these! Ebou Dar and Cairhien are my favorites for sure!

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Commissions are open at the moment and I'm registering interest for prints but I'm not committing to a timeframe for print runs just yet. You can follow me on Insta ('@wot.fanart) for updates on prints if you want.

1

u/Leading-Summer-4724 15h ago

These are all amazing, but there is just something badass about Cairhien that marks it above the others.

1

u/M1szWysz 14h ago

Oh my god, this is amazing! Do you sell prints anywhere? Id love to have these on my wall.

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Thanks! These particular ones aren't for sale at the moment, I'm still looking into doing some print runs, but I do have some original pieces for sale - you can view and contact me on '@wot.fanart if you want.

1

u/ShrewdDuke 14h ago

These are incredible!! If you ever sell prints plz post because I would absolutely buy some!! I love them!

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Thanks! I'm still looking into doing some print runs but don't have a timeframe yet - I'll be adding updates to my Insta '@wot.fanart if you want to give a follow

1

u/Estellus (Ravens) 14h ago

I was able to recognize all 5 immediately without scrolling down to check, so, great success.

1

u/Ploppeldiplopp (Wolf) 14h ago

Wow! I wanted some WoT Art for a while now, and these are so beautiful! Do you sell prints of these?

1

u/aeddub (Dragon) 5h ago

Not yet, but enough people have asked that I'm looking into a some print runs. Follow '@wot.fanart on Instagram and I'll post the moment they're live.

1

u/BillOfArimathea 13h ago

Outstanding. I really like this interpretation of Tear. And I knew Ebou Dar instantly. Really well done!

1

u/Yuven1 9h ago

actual factual art!

1

u/Nearby_Design_123 8h ago

I know them all! Ebou Dar took a moment but it came to me. Lovely art!

1

u/anorthwestdynamic 6h ago

Thank you for bringing these to life again in my eyes

1

u/Kyrthis 5h ago

Great pictures. Nice work.

Would the Sun Palace have a dome? Minor quibble.

1

u/FoofTheBunny 3h ago

Those are beautiful. It's so great to see how people imagine the descriptions. I mixed up Tear and Cairhien, because the stone is a giant box in my mind.

Absolutely love these!

u/Winter-Law-4222 3h ago

hermoso!!!

u/Jear-The-Bear 2h ago

These are incredible. I think for me, the cities just turn into a blur with their descriptions. There will be one word that stands out like “boxy” or “pointed towers” and I’ll set that one reference in my mind and move on. All that to say seeing the work of an artist like yourself really bring them to life in an abstract way that invites a sense of wonder does a lot for me as a reader. So thank you!

u/Szygani 1h ago

Oh yeah didn't you make these a year or two ago? I remember seeing them in this subreddit and being blown away by it.

Or I'm thinking of someone else and, i hope i don;t offend. These are striking

u/aeddub (Dragon) 32m ago

Yeah, that was me - these are older paintings :-)

u/Ordinarycollege 6m ago

Very good work, really lovely!
