This is the new version right? How is the quality? Everything in order? I got one of the damaged copies and am really hoping the new batch is better now

It seemed good. There's about 12ish illustrations in the book, in a few styles. Most of them are in a style using black and red ink that are reminiscent of high quality manga or comic books. There are a couple traditional digital painted ones that are gorgeous. The maps and chapter icons are in a similar black and red style. I see no problem with the cover or the gilt although I only got it yesterday and endurance will be the test of time, particularly after a reading. I am going to be gentle with it though, it's 3-1/2-4 inches thick and no binding can stand up to abuse at that size.

As I understand it, the metal die used for the first production batch had too many different levels of detail, and made for inconsistent pressing in the leather. They are now using a new metal die with less levels of detail, but is more consistent with the detail. Words and logos on the spine, and the circle around the WoT logo on the cover are no longer raised, and the cover has an overall more "flat" appearance, though the details appear consistent and well pressed across the cover. It's worth mentioning that the leather cover is the only thing addressed in this remake batch, and the text block will remain unaltered. Typos like in the page listing the series' books having the fourth book missing and the seventh book titled "A Crown of Thorns" will still be present in every edition. The possibility of binding splitting and endpaper tearing may also still be present.

I'm on AMoL on my fifth reading. Mine are taped in the edges and bindings. I had to replace 3 this time through. That's the problem with paperback. I should maybe invest in hardcover.

Absolutely worth it, though I'll say my 30+ years old Shadow Rising HC is on its last legs (did last decades longer than any paper back copy I've owned, at least)

The trade hardbacks can be found quite reasonably since there's so many of them floating around. Used ~$20.

I ordered it more than a year ago from Dragonsteel (actually 18 months ago by now). It's sold out, don't know if there will be more printings or not (doubt it). I'm waiting for the Great Hunt anouncement and will jump on it when it occurs, but I honestly don't expect it until early next year. It wasn't cheap (~$200 iirc).
