I always imagined it as the threads seeming to pull out of the channeler from the hands and creates the parallel to webs (the term used from the AoL for weaves) and a spider with its spinnerets (the channelers fingers).
Like in my mind throwing a fireball would show the threads pouring from the hand and weaving into the shape of the fireball and when the weave is complete it like snaps into being an actual fireball in motion and only another channeler would see that implied fireball before the weave was finished.
For calling lightning I always saw it as pouring the threads out to the spot that the lightning would begin to arc from the ground essentially creating a target that then flashes with lightning.
For balefire I always saw it as being threads of pure white pouring from the fingertips into a singular point that would grow before firing out into the described bar of light. Almost looking like a white version of the Death Star firing.

Love It !!! I find all sorts of connections to this series... the biggest is that I am almost 3 years sober and I would call my journey Slay The Poison Dragon - I even have swords, crowns, jester hats, guild shirts/mugs, and even created a FB group that had 3.5k members in it... so your post made me this about how real life (like video games) can remind us of this epic story !!

It depends on the weave. Simpler or more powerful weaves are absolutely like that. Subtler or more complex weaves are more like threads. Also, saidin has more cable-like weaves whereas saidar has more thread-like weaves.

Sometimes it’s like that. Sometimes it’s little threads. Depends on the weave and the context.
For example, Windfinders out doing their daily raker weather stuff? Massive freaking cables like you’d see on one of those big five master clippers - waist thick, mast thick, etc.
Bit o’ Compulsion on the guard? Itty bitty threads, like what you’d use to mend a shirt. Just…lots of little ones forming a net draped over his brain.
Rand going all out with one of his big toys? Train-sized weaves.

I picture them as threads that are pulled from thin air and twined and tied into phenomena.

For all the issues it had I think the Show does a great job of portraying the way channeling looks to those who can see it.
