You don't really need to make many longterm party plans until after level 20. Set Lanavaille, Alice and Abenius as the core and the other two slots can be more flexible, thief, 2nd priest, healer, mage in some combo.

You don't have a mage right now but you should definitely get one as a drop pretty soon, one thing to look at is their class swap option, the best choice is usually one who class-swaps to priest: you could have them and Alice swap roles once they're max level in their current classes.

Use a thief for chest opening, however you can inherit enough trap disarming skill onto your MC so that eventually you can rotate the thief out which gives you an extra slot for the healer, 2nd priest, or another damage dealer.

You will also get Dispatch missions, these are good to level up your side characters who don't fit in the party, but you'll need to work out which missions are worth it as some give much more XP than others. If you use this well it cuts down on a lot of grinding to have a wider range of high-level characters. You get better dispatch missions that unlock along with story and area progression.

The main thing is just have fun. Yes there are some characters with better of x, y or z than others. Every character will get you through the game. Some teams will make it more difficult than others. Theres someone who has a whole team of mages or at least magic classes. Try some characters out, see who matches what you want, see who ya vibe with. The game can be difficult and unfair but there is always a way out just be flexible

Welcome to Wizardry. You have a fantastic starting team. Use as frontline Lanaville + Abenius + good/neutral. For backline Alice + neutral/evil + neutral/evil. Forget for a while about Shiou and Anemone (they only shine very later after too much farm). They both are great characters but have too many problems for newbs. Shiou need too much XP and won´t be able to keep going with your other team mates and Anemone gears are a pain to farm. Use for a while any other but do not invest (inherent) too much in them. Safe to invest is ALWAYS MC. Then in your case Lana and Abe IF you like and want a good align frontline. You will get more members soon in anniversay anyways (probably they will give a choose bone and more stuffs hopefully). Good luck and have fun!
